Using meteorological fall as the boundary, eligible releases launched on PC between September 1 and November 30, 2025. Older games appear separately because they may still be better choices than a new $70 release.
The clearest picks are Borderlands 4 for co-op shooting, Cronos: The New Dawn for focused survival horror, Silent Hill f for psychological horror, and The Outer Worlds 2 for a dialogue-heavy first-person RPG. Your best choice depends on whether you value multiplayer, atmosphere, narrative choice, subscription value, or hardware flexibility.

1. Borderlands 4: best for co-op loot shooting
Borderlands 4 launched on PC on September 12, 2025, through Steam and the Epic Games Store. It also launched on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Take-Two announced a $69.99 standard edition, making the value question important for players who mainly play alone.
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Windows and Android.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)
- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
The recommendation is straightforward for groups: Borderlands 4 is the fall 2025 choice for players who want repeated combat, randomized loot, character builds, and a campaign designed to support co-op play. Its endgame and post-launch roadmap also make it a longer-term commitment than a short, self-contained action game.
The trade-off is equally clear. Players seeking a tightly authored solo RPG, a compact campaign, or a game with a definite ending may get better value elsewhere. Premium editions and post-launch content can also raise the total cost beyond the base-game price.
- Buy at launch price if: you already know you want a new Borderlands co-op loop and have friends to play with.
- Buy on sale if: you are primarily a solo player or do not need day-one access.
- PC note: NVIDIA announced DLSS 4 support, but upscaling or frame generation is not evidence by itself that the entire PC version performs well. Compare your hardware with the official requirements before buying.
2K’s endgame and post-launch details and Take-Two’s launch announcement document the release, platforms, pricing, and ongoing-content context.

2. Cronos: The New Dawn: best focused new survival horror
Cronos: The New Dawn released on PC on September 5, 2025. Steam describes it as a single-player survival-horror and third-person shooter built around atmosphere, resource management, and a post-apocalyptic setting. Its Steam listing showed a Very Positive user-review classification when retrieved; review percentages and counts change, so they should be treated as dated user sentiment rather than a permanent score.
Cronos is the strongest fit for players who want a concentrated Halloween-season horror game without multiplayer requirements. Expect deliberate pacing, tense exploration, limited resources, and combat that rewards preparation more than constant shooting.
- Choose it if: you prefer single-player tension, environmental atmosphere, and resource-conscious combat.
- Skip it if: you dislike backtracking, deliberate pacing, or stressful inventory decisions.
- PC note: use the complete system-requirements panel on the Steam listing, not a single processor specification. The publisher’s minimum and recommended tiers are more useful when compared with your own GPU, CPU, RAM, and storage.
- Value advice: it is a better full-price proposition for horror fans than for players who are only mildly curious; otherwise, wait for a discount.
3. Silent Hill f: best for psychological horror
Contemporary release coverage listed Silent Hill f for PC on September 25, 2025. It belongs on a different part of the horror spectrum from Cronos: the appeal is psychological unease, narrative focus, and disturbing imagery rather than a primarily action-driven co-op or loot loop.
Rank #3
- Tri-mode Connectivity: Wired for Xbox, 2.4G & Wired for PC, and Bluetooth for Android. The G7 Pro supports seamless connectivity across Xbox, PC, and Android. Effortlessly switch between modes using the convenient physical mode switch.
- TMR Sticks: The G7 Pro features GameSir's Mag-Res TMR sticks, combining Hall Effect durability with traditional potentiometer performance. This advanced technology delivers stable polling rates for smooth, drift-free gaming with low power consumption.
- Hall Effect Analog Triggers: The GameSir precision-tuned Hall Effect analog triggers provide unmatched smoothness and linear input for precise control. Featuring clicky Micro Switch trigger stops, gamers can easily switch based on their preferences.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate on PC: Experience ultra-responsive gaming with a 1000Hz polling rate on PC, available through both wired and 2.4G wireless connections. This ensures instantaneous input registration, reducing lag and optimizing your performance for the most competitive gameplay.
- GameSir Nexus App: The G7 Pro is compatible with the upgraded GameSir Nexus app, which brings a significant upgrade over the original. It introduces powerful new features such as gyro settings, stick curve adjustments, and button-to-mouse mapping, giving you deeper customization and more control than ever before.
That distinction matters when choosing. Silent Hill f is the better match for players who want a story-led horror experience and are comfortable with difficult subject matter. It is a poor fit for anyone looking for multiplayer, constant combat, or a light seasonal game.

4. The Outer Worlds 2: best first-person RPG and subscription pick
The Outer Worlds 2 launched on October 29, 2025. It was available through Steam, Battle.net, Xbox on PC, and PC Game Pass. Xbox’s launch announcement confirms the date and platforms, while its Game Pass announcement makes the subscription route particularly relevant.
Rank #4
- Multi-Platform PC Gaming Controller: Working with Switch, PC, Android, and iOS devices via Bluetooth, wired, and wireless dongle connections.
- Hall Effect Joysticks: Delivering enhanced recentering performance for smoother control and superior anti-drift capability. Plus, with anti-friction rings.
- 2-Way Trigger Lock: With trigger stops, gamers can toggle between short and long pull positions. Additionally, gamers can activate hair trigger mode by pressing M+LT/RT (triggers must be in the long pull position).
- 1000Hz Polling Rate: This ensures that your inputs are registered almost instantaneously, minimizing lag and maximizing your performance during competitive play.
- Mechanical Circular D-pad: Designed for quick reactions and accuracy in every direction, this D-pad elevates your gaming experience with superior responsiveness.
This is the fall choice for players who want a first-person RPG centered on dialogue, exploration, character builds, and consequential decisions. Its greatest value advantage is not necessarily a lower purchase price: PC Game Pass lets subscribers try it without buying the game outright, although subscription access is not permanent ownership and availability can change.
- Use Game Pass if: you already subscribe, have enough download bandwidth, and are unsure whether the RPG suits you.
- Buy it if: you want permanent access through a store such as Steam or Battle.net.
- Choose something else if: you want a compact action game or a handheld-first experience.
- Handheld warning: the cited PC Gamer review listed Steam Deck as unsupported. Treat that as a version-specific warning, not proof that the game cannot run on every handheld PC.

Older games that may still be better choices
These are not fall 2025 releases. They belong in a separate “play this fall” category because polish, price, mod support, or genre fit can matter more than release date.
- Baldur’s Gate 3: a safer choice for players who want a deep, party-based RPG with extensive choice and replay value.
- Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition: worth considering for an established first-person open-world RPG, but check exactly which edition and current patch you are buying.
- Elden Ring: the stronger option for demanding action RPG combat and exploration if you do not specifically need a 2025 release.
- Hades: a polished choice for repeatable action runs and shorter sessions.
- Stardew Valley: a lower-pressure farming and life-sim alternative that does not depend on new-release pricing.
- Slay the Spire: a strong fit for card-strategy players who value replayability over presentation.
These examples should not be mistaken for current price or compatibility guarantees. Check the relevant store page for today’s price, edition, platform support, and system requirements.
PC hardware, storefronts, and handhelds
Hardware tiers
- Older gaming PC: prioritize games whose official minimum requirements match your GPU, CPU, RAM, and operating system. Do not assume a 2025 release will run acceptably just because it is available on PC.
- Mainstream 1080p PC: compare your system with each publisher’s recommended specification. Recommended requirements are not a guaranteed frame-rate target, but they are a better baseline than minimum requirements.
- High-end or ray-tracing PC: features such as DLSS, ray tracing, and frame generation can change image quality and performance trade-offs, but their presence does not prove good optimization.
- Handheld PC: check the official Steam Deck compatibility label, text readability, controller support, shader-compilation behavior, battery impact, and launcher requirements separately. A desktop-compatible game is not automatically a good handheld game.
For demanding releases, an SSD, sufficient RAM, and a modern GPU can matter as much as raw processor speed. The supplied evidence does not justify promising a particular frame rate for these games without device-specific testing.

- Epic Games Store: an alternative storefront for Borderlands 4. Check whether you prefer its launcher, achievements, and save ecosystem before buying.
- Xbox PC and Game Pass: lowers the risk of trying The Outer Worlds 2, but requires an active subscription and does not provide permanent ownership. Check the official PC Game Pass page for current regional terms.
- Third-party launchers and accounts: verify whether the store or publisher requires an additional account, launcher, always-online connection, or anti-cheat system before purchase.
Buy now, subscribe, wait, or skip?
| Game | Best advice | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Borderlands 4 | Buy for committed co-op groups; otherwise wait for a sale | The loot loop and ongoing content are most valuable when you already want repeatable multiplayer play. |
| Cronos: The New Dawn | Buy if you specifically want solo survival horror; otherwise wait for a discount | Its focused genre appeal is a strength for horror fans but not a universal recommendation. |
| Silent Hill f | Buy for psychological-horror fans after checking content and PC details | Its appeal depends heavily on tolerance for disturbing themes and narrative horror. |
| The Outer Worlds 2 | Use Game Pass first if available; buy for permanent ownership | Subscription access materially changes the value calculation. |
Final ranking by reader type
- Best co-op shooter: Borderlands 4.
- Best new survival-horror pick: Cronos: The New Dawn.
- Best psychological-horror pick: Silent Hill f.
- Best first-person RPG: The Outer Worlds 2.
- Best value strategy: use PC Game Pass for The Outer Worlds 2 if you already subscribe, or choose an older acclaimed game rather than paying full price for a release that does not match your tastes.
Do not treat games such as Dragon Age: The Veilguard, DOOM: The Dark Ages, rumored products, expansions, or vague “2025 updates” as fall 2025 PC releases without a confirmed date and a clearly identified product. A reliable retrospective is better served by a short verified list than by a longer list mixing launches, rumors, older games, and unsupported claims.
