Start with your storefront and a clean baseline
Before changing files or adding mods, identify whether you own the GOG or Steam version and confirm which executable that installation uses. Launch the game unmodded first so you can tell whether a later change addresses a real issue. This is a cautious setup approach, not a reported compatibility test.

The GOG Ultimate Edition page describes its December 2024 hotfix and Windows compatibility claim. For a modern Windows 10 or 11 setup, the Nexus Mods community setup guide focuses mainly on GOG and Steam installations. Consult its current instructions for your storefront before replacing or patching files; community procedures can change.
Understand LAA before patching anything
Large Address Aware is an executable flag that allows a program to use a larger virtual address space under supported Windows conditions. It is a compatibility measure, not a universal performance preset, and adding it does not guarantee that every crash or memory-related problem will disappear.

GOG Ultimate Edition
GOG’s product page says the 4 December 2024 hotfix enabled LAA support and states, “Verified compatibility with Windows 10 and 11.” If you have this updated GOG edition, do not repeat an LAA patch just because an older guide recommends one. Check the page and the guide’s current notes if you are uncertain whether your installation has the hotfix.
Steam
Steam community guides and discussions describe LAA installation steps that involve executable handling. These are user-generated instructions, not official Steam support. Use a current Steam-specific procedure and verify that it refers to the executable in your installation; do not apply a GOG file or procedure by assumption. The Steam community discussion is one example of the storefront-specific questions players raise.

Choose fixes according to the problem
Keep bug fixes and optional graphics or performance changes separate. A setup guide can help you identify relevant compatibility steps, but no cited source establishes that every player needs every fix. Add one change at a time, then launch the game and check whether the problem you intended to address has changed.
The DXVK performance and memory-leak fix page describes a community modification. Treat it as an optional troubleshooting choice, not an official requirement or a guaranteed fix. Before installing it, read the mod page’s current requirements and compatibility notes, especially if you already use another graphics or performance mod. The available evidence does not establish that DXVK works alongside every such mod or helps every PC.

There is no evidence-backed universal graphics preset
The available sources do not provide controlled benchmarks or a hardware-by-hardware settings matrix for Dragon Age: Origins, so they do not justify naming one best graphics preset for all modern PCs. Keep the game at a stable baseline first. If you have a specific visual, stability, or performance problem, change only the relevant setting or add a suitable mod, then check the result on your own system.
