Start with the Steam-listed target that matches your hardware: DirectX 11 at 1080p on Low for a published 60 FPS target, or DirectX 12 at 1080p on Medium–High for a published 60–120 FPS target. Steam lists those figures as configuration targets, not independently measured guarantees, and it does not publish a benchmark scene or method. The listing also says DLSS and DLAA require DirectX 12 and a compatible RTX GPU, while an SSD is strongly recommended for the 5 GB installation. Because the current game build’s graphics controls, setting-by-setting performance costs, and accessibility menu are not documented on the store page, the safest setup is a measured, step-by-step process rather than an invented “best preset.”
What the published targets actually mean
The most useful starting point is the game’s own PC specification. It separates a DirectX 11/Low target from a DirectX 12/Medium–High target, with different hardware classes behind each. These are claims made on the Steam store listing; they are not a controlled comparison using identical hardware, a named test scene, or a disclosed frame-time methodology.

| Configuration | Operating system | CPU | Memory | GPU | API | Storage | Published target |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | Windows 10 64-bit | Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600 | 4 GB RAM | GeForce GTX 1060 3 GB or Radeon RX 580 | DirectX 11 | 5 GB available | 1080p, Low, 60 FPS target |
| Recommended | Windows 10 or Windows 11 | Intel Core i5-12400F or AMD Ryzen 5 5600 | 8 GB RAM | GeForce RTX 3060 6 GB or Radeon RX 6700 XT | DirectX 12 | 5 GB available | 1080p, Medium–High, 60–120 FPS target |
“Target” should not be read as a promise that every scene will hold the stated frame rate. Your result can change with resolution, background applications, drivers, thermals, patches, and what is happening on screen. The store page supplies no test procedure, so there is no defensible way to convert its figures into a universal benchmark.

Choose the baseline that fits your system
- If your PC is close to the minimum specification, begin in DirectX 11, 1080p, and Low. Treat 60 FPS as the listing’s objective, then verify your own frame pacing.
- If your PC is near the recommended specification, try DirectX 12 at 1080p and Medium–High. The listing associates this combination with a 60–120 FPS target.
- If you have a compatible RTX card and use DirectX 12, DLSS or DLAA may be available according to the listing. The page does not document the exact controls, modes, or image-quality trade-offs, so confirm what your installed build exposes before relying on either option.
Before changing graphics settings
Confirm the hardware and operating system
Check your Windows edition and architecture, processor, installed memory, graphics adapter, and free space before troubleshooting. The minimum listing calls for 64-bit Windows 10, 4 GB of RAM, one of the specified mid-range processors, and either a GTX 1060 3 GB or RX 580. The recommended listing raises the operating-system range to Windows 10/11, memory to 8 GB, and the processor and GPU classes to an i5-12400F/Ryzen 5 5600 and RTX 3060 6 GB/RX 6700 XT.

These requirements describe the configurations the publisher chose for its targets. Meeting a minimum line does not establish a guaranteed frame rate, and falling between the two lines does not tell you which single component is limiting performance.
Reserve storage and prefer an SSD for loading
Leave at least 5 GB of available space for the game. Steam also says an SSD is strongly recommended. That recommendation concerns storage responsiveness and loading behavior; the listing does not claim that installing on an SSD raises FPS. If the game is on a hard drive and loading feels slow, moving it to an SSD is a reasonable first experiment, but do not treat the move as a frame-rate upgrade.
Close avoidable background load
For a clean comparison, close browsers, launchers, recording tools, and overlays you do not need. Record the same scene before and after each change. Without a repeatable scene, a higher number in one room can be mistaken for an improvement caused by a setting.

- Start from the published baseline. Use 1080p and Low with DirectX 11 if your machine is near minimum. Use 1080p and Medium–High with DirectX 12 if it is near recommended.
- Play a consistent section. Use the same corridor, room, or repeatable point for each trial. Walk the same route for the same amount of time and note stutter, input feel, and image clarity in addition to the average frame rate.
- Change one control at a time. If the build offers individual quality controls, alter only one, restart the test, and record the result. Changing several options together prevents you from identifying the expensive setting.
- Check resolution before chasing detail. Resolution changes the number of pixels the GPU must draw. Keep the 1080p target while establishing a baseline; only test another resolution when you have a specific reason, such as matching a monitor or relieving a GPU bottleneck.
- Test the API separately. DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 are different operating modes in the published specifications. Compare them using the same resolution, quality level, scene, and background workload. Keep the mode that gives the better combination of frame pacing, stability, and image quality on your PC.
- Evaluate upscaling only under its stated conditions. DLSS and DLAA are listed as requiring DirectX 12 and a compatible RTX GPU. If those controls appear, test them independently and inspect fine details for artifacts. If they do not appear, do not assume they are hidden behind another preset or that your hardware is malfunctioning.
- Keep a stable result, not the highest momentary number. A smooth, repeatable frame rate is more useful than a brief peak while looking at an empty room. Use the same cap or display refresh behavior you normally play with, if the game provides such a control, and document what you selected.
How to diagnose poor performance
Low frame rate with a heavily loaded GPU
If monitoring shows the GPU near full utilization while the CPU has headroom, reduce the most demanding options that your build exposes, starting with resolution or the highest-cost visual setting. Test one change at a time. On an RTX card in DirectX 12, you can also test the listed DLSS option if present. The official page does not quantify the gain from any of these choices, so your repeatable scene is the authority for your system.
Low frame rate with a lightly loaded GPU
A lightly loaded GPU alongside a busy CPU, memory pressure, thermal throttling, or background activity points away from pure graphics workload. Close unnecessary programs, check temperatures and clock behavior, and repeat the same scene. Do not buy a new graphics card solely because the average FPS is low until you know which component is saturated.
Stutter despite a reasonable average
Average FPS can hide uneven frame times. Repeat the route and note whether pauses happen during loading, when entering a new area, or randomly. An SSD may improve loading responsiveness because Steam strongly recommends one, but no source-backed claim connects SSD installation to higher FPS. If the stutter follows a particular API mode, compare DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 at the same settings and keep the more consistent result.
Crashes or launch failures after selecting DirectX 12
Return to the other published API baseline and verify that your graphics driver and Windows installation are current. The listing ties DLSS/DLAA to DirectX 12 and a compatible RTX GPU, but it does not explain launch arguments or recovery commands. If the game will not start after a change, undo the last option through the launcher or in-game configuration path that your installation provides rather than guessing undocumented switches.

Image quality looks worse after upscaling
Inspect thin geometry, text, and moving details at the same camera position. DLSS and DLAA are named by the listing, but their available modes and controls are not described. If your build offers a quality selector, compare the options at native 1080p using the same scene; choose the clearest stable result instead of assuming the most aggressive performance mode is “best.”
Graphics options: what is documented and what is not
Steam publishes the API, resolution, quality tier, and frame-rate targets summarized above. It does not enumerate the current in-game graphics controls or publish measured costs for shadows, lighting, textures, effects, foliage, view distance, anti-aliasing, reflections, or post-processing. Consequently, a responsible guide cannot label one of those settings as the confirmed performance culprit or promise that a particular preset exists.
When your build displays a setting, use this order of operations:
- Capture the default value and a screenshot so you can restore it.
- Change only that value and repeat the same route.
- Check both motion smoothness and visual defects, not just an FPS counter.
- Keep the change only if it solves your bottleneck without creating distracting artifacts.
If a control mentioned in another guide is absent from your menu, treat that as a version or build difference rather than evidence that your installation is broken. The store listing is mutable and does not provide a historical changelog for graphics or accessibility controls.

Accessibility: verified facts and practical workarounds
The available Steam listing does not enumerate accessibility features. It therefore does not establish that the game currently includes colorblind filters, field-of-view adjustment, motion reduction, subtitles, text-size controls, high-contrast modes, remapping, or separate volume sliders. Do not assume any of those options exist because another Unreal or horror game includes them.
Check the game’s own menus without assuming labels
- Open the title, pause, or options menu and inspect Graphics, Display, Audio, Controls, and any Accessibility section that your build presents.
- Look for subtitle language, subtitle size, speaker labels, camera shake, motion blur, field of view, brightness or gamma, contrast, color filters, and input remapping.
- Apply one change, return to gameplay, and confirm that it persists after restarting. If there is no setting, record that limitation rather than substituting a different control.
Use platform and display accommodations where appropriate
Windows, your monitor, and your GPU driver may provide scaling, magnification, color adjustments, night-light modes, high-contrast themes, or controller remapping outside the game. Their availability and exact labels depend on your Windows version and hardware. These accommodations can improve readability or comfort, but they cannot create missing subtitles, alter game-authored camera motion, or guarantee that every visual element remains distinguishable.
Comfort and photosensitivity precautions
If flashing, darkness, camera movement, or motion blur causes discomfort, lower display brightness to a comfortable level, increase room lighting, take regular breaks, and stop playing when symptoms begin. Only disable camera shake or motion blur if the installed build actually exposes those controls; the store page does not confirm them.

The table is a way to select a starting point, not proof that DirectX 12 is faster for every computer. A system can meet the recommended CPU and GPU names yet still perform differently because of thermals, drivers, memory configuration, or the current game build. Compare both modes only when your installation makes both available and you can reproduce the same test.

Should you upgrade hardware?
Use the specification tiers as planning references, not purchase instructions. Steam names an RTX 3060 6 GB and an RX 6700 XT in the recommended configuration, but it does not say that either card is necessary for your individual PC or that upgrading will deliver a particular FPS result. The same caution applies to the listed processors and the SSD recommendation.
- Upgrade storage when capacity or loading responsiveness is the problem and you have confirmed the game is installed on a slower drive.
- Consider a GPU upgrade only after monitoring shows the GPU is the sustained bottleneck at your chosen resolution and quality.
- Consider a CPU or memory upgrade when the processor is saturated, memory is exhausted, or frame-time spikes persist while the GPU is underused.
- Check temperatures, power limits, driver state, and background processes before spending money; a configuration issue can mimic inadequate hardware.
The published 5 GB requirement is modest, but leave additional free space for Windows, updates, and other games. The listing does not provide a larger working-space recommendation.
A practical decision tree
Your PC is near minimum
Use DirectX 11, 1080p, and Low as the first test. If performance is below the 60 FPS target, identify whether the GPU or CPU is saturated, then lower only the control that addresses that bottleneck if your build provides one. Keep a record of the scene and result.

Your PC is near recommended
Use DirectX 12, 1080p, and Medium–High. Test stability across several areas rather than assuming the 60–120 FPS listing target applies everywhere. If an RTX GPU is installed, test the available DLSS or DLAA controls under DirectX 12 and judge clarity as well as speed.
Your PC sits between the tiers
Start with the lower-risk DirectX 11/Low baseline, then raise quality or test DirectX 12 one variable at a time. There is no published interpolation rule for systems that fall between the named CPUs and GPUs, so the right setting must come from your own repeatable test.
Settings checklist
- Windows edition and 64-bit support meet the applicable listing.
- CPU, GPU, and RAM are compared with the minimum and recommended rows, including GPU memory capacities.
- At least 5 GB is free, with an SSD preferred for installation.
- DirectX 11/1080p/Low or DirectX 12/1080p/Medium–High is selected as the appropriate baseline.
- The test route and background workload are consistent.
- One setting is changed per trial.
- DLSS or DLAA is tested only with DirectX 12 and a compatible RTX GPU.
- Accessibility controls are confirmed in the current build instead of assumed from another game.
- Hardware purchases are delayed until monitoring identifies the sustained bottleneck.
What a “best” setup means for this game
For a minimum-class PC, the evidence-supported answer is DirectX 11 at 1080p and Low, with 60 FPS as Steam’s stated target. For a recommended-class PC, it is DirectX 12 at 1080p and Medium–High, with a 60–120 FPS target. Those are the only complete presets the listing publishes. Everything more granular—individual quality values, exact upscaling modes, frame-time behavior, and accessibility features—must be verified in the build you are playing rather than filled in from assumptions.
