Change one option at a time and compare in the same area: official sources do not publish per-setting FPS gains or a universally best configuration.
Start with a preset that matches your PC
Steam’s system requirements provide useful targets, not guarantees for every scene or computer. The minimum tier targets Low settings at 30 FPS and Full HD; the recommended tier targets Ultra settings at 60 FPS and Full HD. Both list DirectX 11 and 31 GB of storage, and Steam strongly recommends an SSD.

These are Steam’s published specifications, not a promise of locked frame rates in demanding locations. If your PC is close to the minimum tier, begin on Low. If it is above minimum but below the recommended tier, start with a middle preset and tune from there instead of assuming Ultra will be smooth. Steam’s requirements listing also identifies Windows 10 64-bit for minimum and Windows 10/11 64-bit for recommended.
Use this tuning order
- Set a baseline. Choose Low if your hardware is near minimum, or a middle preset if it is stronger. Use your display’s native output resolution first.
- Try FSR if frame rate is still inadequate. Patch 1.30 added FSR to the game’s upscaling options. The announcement does not identify a best FSR mode, so compare the available choices on your own display rather than treating one as universally optimal.
- Adjust Grass Density, then Vegetation Quality. Test Grass Density first if the GPU is heavily loaded or you play at a high resolution. If needed, change Vegetation Quality separately so you can see which adjustment helps your system.
- Lower draw distance if the issue persists. This is most relevant on lower-end or CPU-limited PCs. Reduce it from the maximum and check whether frame pacing improves.
- Compare in the same demanding area. Make one change at a time, revisit the same location, and assess both smoothness and image quality. This is a practical troubleshooting method, not a configuration validated by a controlled benchmark.
Which settings should you lower?
Grass Density and Vegetation Quality
Patch 1.30 separated Grass Density from Vegetation Quality, so they can now be tuned independently. The developers say Grass Density values were optimized for GPU-bound setups, high resolutions, and low-end GPUs. That makes density a sensible option to test in those situations, but the patch announcement gives no measured FPS improvement or preferred value.

Draw distance
The PC draw-distance slider now reaches 120%; Ultra+ uses 120% by default. The developers warn that higher draw distance may affect lower-end or CPU-bound systems. If you are using the maximum and performance is uneven, try stepping it down. No official source establishes an ideal setting for every CPU or scene.
Other visual options
Patch 1.30 also adds a Lens Flare setting. The available official performance information does not rank every graphics option by cost, so there is no evidence-based reason here to prescribe a specific Lens Flare value or to claim that another individual option will deliver a particular FPS gain. Keep unproblematic visuals at your preferred quality and test changes individually.

What patch 1.30 changes—and what it does not establish
In its October 1, 2026 announcement, developer teams Questline and Awaken Realms said players could expect performance and stability improvements across platforms. The update also adds FSR, separates Grass Density from Vegetation Quality, and adds Lens Flare. Those are meaningful options and a general improvement claim, but the announcement does not provide controlled PC benchmark results, setting-by-setting gains, or a target configuration for a particular graphics card.
The update also introduced Steam Deck video presets: Quality targets 30 FPS and Performance targets 35–40 FPS. Those figures are specifically for Steam Deck and should not be treated as desktop PC performance results. The version information here reflects patch 1.30 announced October 1, 2026; check the game’s current announcements for any later changes.

Does an SSD improve performance?
Steam strongly recommends an SSD, making it a sensible storage choice if your PC still uses a hard drive. That recommendation does not establish that an SSD will raise average FPS or cure stutter. Check your available storage and hardware compatibility before moving or installing the game.
