Choose a Player Level item you rely on that would otherwise take a long time to unlock again. Before spending your Permanent Unlock, check whether a blueprint or skin you own already keeps it available after Prestige. There is no official best-item ranking: the right choice depends on your loadout, play style, and how late the item unlocks.
What a Permanent Unlock does
In Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Player progression runs from Level 1 to Level 55. Reaching Level 55 lets you enter Prestige, which resets you to Level 1, relocks most Player Level items, and resets your loadouts. A Permanent Unlock keeps one item from the Player Levels available despite that reset. Activision explains the system in its Black Ops 6 progression guide.
You receive ten Permanent Unlocks in total, one per Prestige. They are no longer used for this purpose after you complete Prestige 10 and enter Prestige Master.
What carries over after Prestige
The reset does not erase all progress. Weapon progression, camos, reticles, weapon builds, challenge progress and unlocks, store and Battle Pass content, operator and emote unlocks, and Zombies GobbleGums remain. A weapon may be locked behind Player Level again even though its weapon level and saved builds are retained.

How to choose the right item
- Check whether you already have access. Activision says a blueprint or skin can keep its associated item permanently available through Prestige. This applies to weapons and to equipment, field upgrades, or scorestreaks when you own a skin. If you have one, spending a token on that item may be unnecessary.
- Prioritize something you will use. Choose gear that fits the loadout you expect to play while climbing back through the levels. A token is for retaining access to a preferred item, not for improving an item you do not use.
- Factor in its unlock level. The later an item unlocks, the longer you may otherwise wait to regain access. Activision’s example is the Kompakt 92 SMG, which unlocks at Level 49; the example illustrates the timing benefit, not a claim that the Kompakt 92 is the best weapon for every player. - Match the choice to your mode and play style. Consider whether the item supports the loadout and mode you plan to play after resetting. Since the token applies to one Player Level item, a useful pick for one player may be a poor fit for another.
Is there a universally best Prestige unlock?
No official source provides a ranked list or comparative performance data for Permanent Unlock choices. A creator video published in 2024 presents a top-ten list as opinion, not as an official or tested ranking: video commentary on Permanent Unlock choices. Use the practical checks above rather than treating any single item as universally optimal.
