Start with Performance Mode if smooth camera movement matters most; choose Resolution Mode when sharper scenery and animal detail matter more. That recommendation follows Sony’s documented PS5 trade-off, not a Planet Zoo 2 benchmark. Frontier and Sony have not published a complete PS5 graphics table for Planet Zoo 2, so there is no verified 30-, 60-, or 120-fps target, output-resolution target, or named upscaling method to promise.
Planet Zoo 2 launched on PlayStation 5 on October 13, 2026. Its official store listing marks it PS5 Pro Enhanced, but does not define what the enhancement changes. The practical guide below shows how to choose, verify and troubleshoot the options that your current game build actually exposes.

What is officially known about Planet Zoo 2 on PS5
Planet Zoo 2 is a PlayStation 5 release from Frontier Developments PLC. Frontier announced PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions for October 13, 2026, and the US PlayStation Store lists the Standard Edition at $49.99. Those commercial details identify the platform and release, but they do not describe rendering performance.
The PlayStation Store labels the game “PS5 Pro Enhanced.” Sony’s listing does not say whether that means a higher internal resolution, steadier frame delivery, improved image reconstruction or a separate graphics preset. Treat the label as confirmation of platform support rather than a promise of 4K, 60 fps or 120 fps.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Frontier’s public PS5 information also does not provide a settings table. In particular, it does not publish a frame-rate target, output-resolution target, Performance/Quality toggle name, ray-tracing option or console equivalent of a PC upscaler setting. If your copy shows a menu that differs from the instructions here, use the labels on your screen: the available controls can change with updates and platform builds.
Frontier’s launch material highlights aquatic and flying species, a deeper conservation focus and Wildlife Reserves. A zoo containing many animals, guests, habitats, water effects and detailed construction can therefore place more demand on the console than a small starter park. That is a reason to expect heavier scenes, not a measured Planet Zoo 2 benchmark.
Pick the right profile in less than a minute
| Profile | Best for | What you should notice | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Performance-first | Frequent camera rotation, building placement, guest-flow checks and long management sessions | Motion should feel smoother when the game exposes a compatible performance choice | Image quality may be lower than the quality-oriented option |
| Visual-quality-first | Close animal viewing, screenshots, habitat decoration and architectural work | Fine detail and overall image quality take priority when the game exposes a resolution choice | Camera movement may feel heavier in a large or busy zoo |
Both profiles are conditional. The PS5 system preset only influences games that support the corresponding mode, and Planet Zoo 2’s current build may expose its own menu, no toggle, or different wording. Do not force a mode that is not present.

Use this sequence when responsiveness is your priority. It changes only documented system behavior and options that the game itself presents.
- Open the PS5 preset menu. From the home screen, go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Game Presets.
- Select Performance Mode. Sony describes this preset as making motion in a game smoother when the title supports it. The setting is a preference, not a Planet Zoo 2 frame-rate guarantee.
- Launch Planet Zoo 2 and inspect its graphics or display menu. If you see a performance-oriented choice, select it first. If there is no such choice, leave the game at its default rather than assuming that the PS5 preset created a hidden 60-fps mode.
- Use a supported display refresh rate. Set the television or monitor to a refresh rate it actually supports. A 120 Hz display does not establish that Planet Zoo 2 renders at 120 fps, and the official listing does not publish a 120-fps target.
- Test a representative save. Pan around a quiet habitat, then a crowded area with guests, water, flying or aquatic animals and dense scenery. This is a practical check of your own installation, not a standardized benchmark.
- After a major patch or unusually long session, restart the application if responsiveness degrades. Restarting is a sensible troubleshooting step, but Frontier has not documented it as a guaranteed performance fix.
What to change when a large zoo feels less responsive
First verify that the game is still using the performance-oriented option you selected. Updates can add, rename or reset settings. If the game provides a detail, effects or similar control, reduce only that control and observe the result. Do not expect a setting that is not visible in your build, and do not infer that a PC option exists on PS5.

Make one change at a time. Camera movement, animal animation and guest simulation can all feel different in a dense park, so changing several options together makes it difficult to identify what helped. If no in-game control exists, your available choices are the PS5 preset, the display configuration and restarting the application.
How to set up a visual-quality-first profile
- Return to the same PS5 menu: Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Game Presets.
- Choose Resolution Mode if the game exposes a compatible mode. Sony describes Resolution Mode as prioritizing higher graphic quality.
- Choose the quality-oriented option in Planet Zoo 2 if its own graphics menu offers one. If the menu has no quality selector, the PS5 preset may have no visible effect.
- Use this profile for detail-sensitive work. Close animal observation, screenshot composition, habitat decoration and architectural construction benefit from an image-quality priority, while fast camera movement may feel less fluid in a busy park.
- Switch back when management becomes uncomfortable. You can change the PS5 preset before launching another session and choose the performance-oriented in-game option when available.
Resolution Mode is not a claim that the game outputs native 4K. It is Sony’s general name for the higher-quality side of a supported game’s trade-off; Planet Zoo 2’s exact internal and output resolutions are undocumented.
Performance Mode versus Resolution Mode
| Decision axis | Performance-first choice | Visual-quality-first choice |
|---|---|---|
| Camera and animation smoothness | Prefer this when quick panning and repeated camera moves are distracting in a quality mode | Accept potentially heavier movement in exchange for image-quality priority |
| Sharpness and fine detail | May give up some image detail if the game implements a performance preset | Prioritizes higher graphic quality when supported |
| Dense-zoo behavior | Start here if a large park feels less responsive, then test any exposed detail control | Use when detail matters more than movement fluidity; crowded scenes can feel heavier |
| Display compatibility | Works only when the display and game support the resulting mode; a high-refresh display is not a frame-rate promise | Works only when the display and game support the resulting mode; Resolution Mode does not prove native 4K |
| Availability in the current build | Conditional on a compatible game option being exposed | Conditional on a compatible game option being exposed |
Why a bigger zoo can feel slower
Frontier describes Planet Zoo 2 as adding aquatic and flying species, expanded conservation systems and Wildlife Reserves. A mature park can combine those systems with more habitats, guests, scenery, water and animated animals than an early tutorial zoo. The result may be a heavier-feeling camera or slower interaction as the scene becomes more complex.
That explanation is qualitative. The available official information does not include a PS5 performance test, a simulation-object limit or a graph showing frame rate by zoo size. You should therefore describe a slowdown as a behavior you observe in your save, not as proof of a published console limit.
Use a controlled check
- Save in the area that feels slow.
- Move to a less populated section of the same zoo and repeat the same camera movement.
- Compare the behavior after restarting the application.
- If the difference remains, use the performance-first profile and any detail or effects control that the game actually exposes.
This process separates a scene-specific load from a display or menu setting. It does not produce a universal fps number.

What PS5 Pro Enhanced does—and does not—tell you
The official store label confirms that Planet Zoo 2 is designated PS5 Pro Enhanced. It does not define the enhancement. The listing could be compatible with several implementations, including higher image quality, steadier delivery or improved reconstruction, but none is confirmed for this game.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsDo not advertise the Pro label as a guaranteed 4K mode, 60-fps mode or 120-fps mode. Use the same decision rule on a PS5 Pro as on a standard PS5: begin with Performance Mode for smoother movement when supported, or Resolution Mode for image-quality priority, then judge the result in your own zoo.
Frame rate, resolution and upscaling: what remains undocumented
Readers commonly ask whether Planet Zoo 2 runs at 60 fps on PS5. The official PlayStation listing does not publish a numeric frame-rate target, so a definitive 60-fps claim would be unsupported. The same limitation applies to 30 fps, 120 fps and any claim that a mode holds a particular number in large zoos.
The listing also does not publish native 4K, dynamic-resolution behavior or a named reconstruction method. A Resolution Mode label means higher graphic quality in Sony’s general terminology; it is not evidence of a specific pixel count.
A Steam Community update for the PC version reports performance and stability improvements and says FSR and DLSS should function correctly when selected in the PC Graphics menu. Those notes are platform-specific. They do not establish that FSR, DLSS or equivalent controls appear on PS5, and the PC menu names should not be used as console instructions.

Display setup without unsupported promises
Use the television or monitor’s supported refresh-rate settings and the PS5’s normal video configuration. A 120 Hz-capable panel can display signals up to its supported limit, but the panel’s capability does not make Planet Zoo 2 a 120-fps game. Likewise, enabling a quality-oriented preset does not prove that the console is outputting native 4K.
If movement looks uneven, compare the two game presets with the same save and camera path. Check that the display has not switched to a different picture mode or input, then restart the application after a major update. Keep the diagnosis focused on observable behavior rather than assuming a hidden graphics feature.

The game has no Performance or Resolution toggle
That can be normal. Sony’s Game Presets apply only when a title supports them, and Frontier has not published a requirement that Planet Zoo 2 expose both modes. Keep the PS5 preset that matches your preference, use the game’s documented options if any appear, and avoid inventing a missing control.
Performance Mode appears selected but movement does not change
Confirm that you changed the preset before launching the game, then test a save with a repeatable camera path. If the game has no compatible performance option, the preset may have no visible effect. A lack of visible change is not evidence of a broken console.
A large zoo becomes sluggish after playing for a long time
Save, close Planet Zoo 2 and launch it again. Treat this as a practical recovery step, not a documented cure. If the issue returns, switch to the performance-first profile and reduce any exposed visual-detail control one step at a time.

An update changed the graphics menu
Read the labels in the updated build rather than relying on an older guide. Recheck the PS5 preset, note whether a performance or quality option is still present, and test the same save. Frontier’s PC notes show that performance and stability changes can arrive in updates; they do not specify identical PS5 changes.
You expected a 60-fps or 4K option
Neither target is published in the official PS5 listing. Choose the mode by how the game feels and looks on your display, not by an assumed number.
Recommended settings by activity
| Activity | Starting profile | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Frequent park-wide camera movement | Performance Mode, plus the in-game performance option if available | Smoother motion is the priority |
| Managing a crowded mature zoo | Performance Mode | Begin with the profile intended to favor responsiveness, then test exposed detail controls |
| Close animal viewing | Resolution Mode | Higher graphic quality is more valuable when examining detail |
| Habitat and building decoration | Resolution Mode | Fine visual detail helps placement and screenshot work |
| Comparing a patch or a new display | Use the same profile and repeatable save first | Changing one variable makes the comparison meaningful |
A safe way to change settings after patches
- Write down the current PS5 Game Preset and any in-game graphics selection.
- Load the same zoo and visit both a quiet area and the busiest area.
- Repeat the same camera movement in each area.
- Change one setting, then repeat the route.
- Restart the application if the session has become unusually unresponsive, and record whether the behavior returns.
This method gives you a personal baseline without turning an individual save into a universal benchmark. It also prevents a display change, a patch and a graphics toggle from being confused with one another.

The practical answer
For most PS5 players, Performance Mode is the sensible starting point because camera movement and management responsiveness matter constantly in a building-and-simulation game. Move to Resolution Mode when image detail is your priority for animals, scenery or screenshots. Keep expectations precise: Planet Zoo 2’s official PS5 materials confirm the platform, October 13, 2026 launch and PS5 Pro Enhanced label, but they do not publish numeric frame-rate, resolution or upscaling specifications.
