Battle royale matches center on survival: players or squads compete until one remains. That format makes Fortnite, Apex Legends, PUBG: Battlegrounds, My Hero Ultra Rumble and Super Animal Royale the closer matches for someone searching for a PS4 game to play together that feels like a battle royale.
Rainbow Six Siege is an adjacent choice for intense multiplayer action, not another battle royale. Its repeated 5v5 rounds reward coordination, tactical decisions and precise attacks on defended positions rather than survival through a shrinking contest.

How to choose between the battle royale options
Choose Fortnite for building—or opt out of it
Fortnite’s key distinction is that PlayStation separates its classic Battle Royale mode, where building structures is part of play, from Zero Build. Zero Build drops construction and puts more emphasis on gunplay and movement, making it the straightforward pick if you want the battle royale loop without learning building mechanics. PlayStation also notes pop-culture cosmetics; the guide does not present cosmetics as a competitive advantage.
Choose Apex Legends for ability-based squad tactics
Apex is the clearest fit if you want teammates to bring different character abilities into a fight. Its duo and trio formats create room for coordination around each Legend’s skills, rather than relying only on weapon choice. The PlayStation Store listing notes optional virtual currency purchases; it does not say those purchases are required to play.

Choose PUBG for a survival-focused match
PUBG’s described appeal is scavenging and trying to be the last player or squad standing, with map variation as another part of the experience. It is the natural option here for players more interested in a survival-oriented battle royale than in anime character abilities or building mechanics.
Choose My Hero Ultra Rumble for anime teams

Choose Super Animal Royale for top-down action
Super Animal Royale changes the viewpoint: it is a top-down 2D battle royale rather than a first-person military-style shooter. Its animal characters, scavenging and solo or four-player squad options offer a different presentation and pace from the other picks.

PlayStation still describes Warzone as a free-to-play battle royale with evolving maps, supply boxes, contracts, weapons and seasonal updates in its free-to-play guide. However, Windows Central reported that PS4 and Xbox One support was scheduled to end in 2026 alongside Modern Warfare 4 and Season 1. Those signals conflict, and the primary Call of Duty announcement was not verified here. Do not assume Warzone is currently playable or downloadable on PS4 without checking the Store and an official Call of Duty status notice.
