The setting expands Marvel’s New York beyond Manhattan by adding Brooklyn and Queens. That larger map matters because traversal is not merely a way to move between missions: swinging, gliding and changing direction are central to how the game feels moment to moment. Gotham Knights is an open-world action RPG set in Gotham. The playable roster consists of Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood and Robin, and you can change between them. This makes it a good choice when the appeal of superhero games is the wider vigilante family rather than one established lead.
The structure is designed for either solo play or a two-player online partnership. The complete story can be played alone, while online co-op lets one additional player join. How it differs from Spider-Man
Gotham Knights should not be treated as a Batman-themed version of Spider-Man 2. Its identity comes from character swapping among four members of the Batman family and from action-RPG progression in an open Gotham. The movement and combat serve that design rather than reproducing Spider-Man’s web-swinging.
If your ideal session is patrolling a city with a friend, selecting different vigilantes and sharing missions, this is the strongest fit on the list. If your priority is the fastest traversal or the most direct Spider-Man-style momentum, Spider-Man 2 remains the better match.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: a focused single-player team story

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is available on both PS4 and PS5. You play as Star-Lord in a third-person action-adventure built around a single-player campaign. Instead of freely patrolling a city as one hero, you move through a directed story with the Guardians as your team.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League: the shooter option
Format and online requirement
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a PS5 third-person action-adventure shooter set in an open-world Metropolis. You control members of the Suicide Squad and can play alone or with other people, but the official listing states that online play is required. Multiplayer supports up to four online players.
That requirement is the most important buying consideration. “Solo” in the game’s description does not mean an offline campaign that can be played without connecting to the service. A reliable internet connection and access to the game’s online systems are part of the experience, even when you are not coordinating with three other people.
How the action differs
The combat is based on third-person shooting and the distinct weapons or movement options of the squad members. It is therefore a better fit for players who want ranged combat and squad play than for someone seeking a traditional melee-focused superhero brawler.

Batman: Arkham Knight: a PS4 Batman game that runs on PS5
Platform labeling matters
Batman: Arkham Knight is listed by PlayStation as a PS4 game playable on PS5. It is not a native PS5 release. PlayStation notes that a system software update may be needed and that some features available on PS4 may be absent when the game is played on PS5.
That compatibility caveat does not make it irrelevant. If your main goal is a solo Batman story, the game remains the most direct choice in this group. The important point is to buy and describe it accurately: you are selecting a backward-compatible PS4 title, not a PS5 edition with current-generation features.

PlayStation also lists Batman: Arkham Collection, a package containing Arkham Knight, Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. Collection contents, platform labels and licensing can differ by store and region, so check the exact listing before purchasing. Pick Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Its defining feature is the combination of web swinging, Web Wings and a larger Marvel’s New York. None of the other games on this list is presented as a direct equivalent to that movement system.

If you want a four-person online group
Pick Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League only if you are comfortable with its required online play and shooter format. It supports up to four online players, but it is not an offline-first superhero adventure.
If you want a self-contained solo team adventure
Pick Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. You lead Star-Lord, direct team abilities and make dialogue choices in a single-player campaign.
If Batman is the deciding factor
Pick Batman: Arkham Knight, while remembering that it is a PS4 game playable on PS5 and may require a system update. If you want Batman-family co-op instead, choose Gotham Knights.

- Native PS5 versus backward-compatible PS4: Spider-Man 2, Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad are described as PS5 games. Arkham Knight is a PS4 game playable on PS5. Guardians of the Galaxy and Miles Morales have PS4 and PS5 versions.
- Edition contents: the Miles Morales Ultimate Edition includes Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered; do not assume that content is present in another edition.
- Physical or digital format: confirm that the edition matches your console and that a collection includes the games you expect.
