Best for psychological survival horror: SILENT HILL 2
PlayStation frames the original SILENT HILL 2 as a 2001 survival-horror game. In the remake, James Sunderland goes to Silent Hill after receiving a letter from his deceased wife. Choose it if the story hook and psychological-horror framing matter more to you than a sci-fi setting or an action-first pitch. PlayStation describes the remake as expanding familiar locations for its PS5 release.
The US PlayStation Store listing offers a PS5 Standard Edition and a Deluxe Edition. The digital Deluxe Edition includes a digital artbook, digital soundtrack and a Pyramid Head mask item. Those listed digital extras do not establish what a physical disc edition contains; check the specific regional listing and format before buying. Best for science-fiction survival horror: Dead Space
Dead Space is a PS5 remake of the 2008 science-fiction horror game. Isaac Clarke boards the USG Ishimura on a repair mission, only to find the ship overrun by Necromorphs. PlayStation’s description highlights weapons improvised from materials found aboard the ship and combat that involves dismembering enemies. It is the natural pick if you want survival horror built around a doomed spaceship, hostile creatures and making use of what you can find.
Best for action-forward survival horror: Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil 4 remakes Capcom’s 2005 survival-horror title. Leon S. Kennedy is sent to rural Spain to rescue the US President’s daughter from infected villagers. PlayStation describes intense combat scenarios, making this a strong choice if you want a survival-horror setting with a more combat-forward emphasis.

Best for story-first survival action: The Last of Us Part I
The Last of Us Part I is rebuilt for PS5 and follows Joel and Ellie. PlayStation says it includes the prequel chapter Left Behind, alongside updated gameplay, controls, accessibility options, visual fidelity and DualSense features. It is a good adjacent pick if you want a narrative-led journey through a hostile world, but it is better described here as survival action than as a pure survival-horror recommendation.

- Amazon Exclusive - 2 sided poster included in every game!

- For the first time ever in Resident Evil history, players will be able to freely switch between both first- and third-person perspectives throughout the game.
- An Anniversary to Remember: With March 2026 marking the Resident Evil series’ 30-year anniversary, Resident Evil Requiem marks its own milestone in the franchise.
- Pre-orders for Resident Evil Requiem are now open, with the bonus of Grace’s costume: Apocalypse. Please note that the picture weapon does not come with the costume, but it can be obtained in-game.
Best adjacent psychological thriller: Alan Wake 2
Consider Alan Wake 2 if you are interested in psychological tension and unconventional storytelling as well as survival-horror games. GamesRadar+ characterizes it as a psychological thriller and recommends it to fans of survival-horror games such as Resident Evil. That is the outlet’s editorial view, not an objective genre ranking.

- Pick The Last of Us Part I for a story-first survival-action experience.

Several of these games revisit earlier releases: PlayStation identifies the originals of SILENT HILL 2, Dead Space and Resident Evil 4 as 2001, 2008 and 2005 titles, respectively. If you have played those originals, the remakes revisit familiar stories rather than introduce wholly new ones.
