1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor more stable PS5 co-op, start with a wired LAN connection if practical. If you use Wi-Fi, move the console closer to the router and clear obstructions. Check PlayStation Network service status before changing router settings, and treat DNS, MTU and port changes as targeted troubleshooting—not universal lag fixes.
Choose the most reliable connection your setup allows
| Connection | Stability considerations | Convenience |
|---|---|---|
| Wired Ethernet | A cable avoids Wi-Fi signal interference and obstacles between the console and router. | Requires a practical cable run. PlayStation recommends wired networking where possible; its quick-start guide notes that a LAN cable is not included. PlayStation PS5 quick-start guide |
| Wi-Fi | Performance can be affected by distance, walls, and other obstructions. | Does not require a cable run. Move the PS5 closer to the router and remove objects blocking the signal. PlayStation connection troubleshooting |
Set up wired LAN
- On the PS5, open Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection.
- Select Set Up Wired LAN > Connect.
Use an Ethernet/LAN cable connected to your router. If a cable run is not practical, stay on Wi-Fi and optimize the console’s placement instead.
Improve a Wi-Fi connection
Place the console closer to the router and remove objects that block the connection. If setup fails, check that you selected the correct network name (SSID), entered the password correctly, and are using a supported security method. PlayStation PS5 internet setup guidance
Use a simple troubleshooting order
Work from checks with the smallest scope and lowest risk toward router-level changes. If a game or service is having an outage, changes to your home network may not help.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Check PlayStation service status. If the console cannot connect to a PlayStation service, check the PlayStation Network Service Status before changing settings.
- Restart the console. Retry the connection after the restart.
- Improve the connection path. Prefer wired LAN if possible. On Wi-Fi, move the PS5 closer to the router and clear obstructions.
- Restart the router or modem. For PlayStation error WS-116520-5, PlayStation advises waiting at least five minutes before restarting the router.
- Update router firmware. Follow the router maker’s instructions; firmware menus and procedures vary by model.
These are PlayStation’s troubleshooting recommendations, including its error-specific guidance for WS-116520-5. A successful PS5 internet connection or speed test does not, by itself, show that a particular game server or route is stable.
Keep advanced settings at their defaults unless you have a specific reason
PS5’s advanced network settings include IP address, DHCP Host Name, DNS, MTU and proxy. Multi-Link Operation is also available on the CFI-7000 model group. PlayStation advises users unfamiliar with these settings to consult their internet service provider or network administrator; its reviewed guidance does not prescribe universal custom DNS or MTU values for stable co-op. Changing DNS or MTU is not a reliable general-purpose fix for lag. If you do change a value, record the original setting so you can restore it, and use advice specific to your network rather than copying a value from an unrelated setup.
Check IPv4 support if the console cannot connect
PS5 supports IPv6, but it does not support an IPv6-only network connection. The router must also allow IPv4. If your network is configured as IPv6-only, ask your ISP or network administrator about enabling IPv4. PlayStation PS5 setup guidance

Reserve port forwarding for the error it is meant to address
Port forwarding is not a default step for every PS5 owner. For the specific server-connection error WS-116520-5, PlayStation Support says, “If possible, try opening the following ports:”
- TCP: 80, 443, 3478, 3479, 3480
- UDP: 3478, 3479, 49152 to 65535
This is error-specific advice, not a blanket recommendation to open ports for co-op. Router controls differ, and unnecessary changes can affect network security or other devices. PlayStation directs users to their ISP for help opening ports. PlayStation error troubleshooting

Address multiple NAT routers only when the documented error applies
If your network uses multiple NAT routers and the PS5 displays error NW-102468-1, PlayStation’s guidance is to remove the second NAT router from the setup. This is a specific troubleshooting case, not a reason to reconfigure every home network. If you are unsure which device is routing traffic, ask your ISP or network administrator. PlayStation connection error guidance
Do not use Remote Play bandwidth figures as a co-op requirement
PlayStation’s published Remote Play guidance recommends at least 5 Mbps upload and download as a standard, and at least 15 Mbps upload and download for best performance. Those figures apply to Remote Play, not to online co-op generally. The reviewed official guidance does not establish a universal bandwidth, ping, jitter or packet-loss threshold for PS5 co-op. A higher advertised Wi-Fi or broadband speed alone does not guarantee lower game latency. PlayStation Remote Play connection guidance
