For a PS5 group in the same room, Overcooked! All You Can Eat and Sackboy: A Big Adventure are strong cooperative picks, while fighting, sports and racing games suit head-to-head play. The right choice depends on how many people are playing and whether you want couch multiplayer, online play or both. Player counts and features below are from PlayStation’s game listings and local multiplayer guide, accessed October 8, 2026; the guide is an editorial selection, not a ranked test.
Best PS5 party games at a glance
“Local” means players share a PS5, usually on one screen; split-screen is called out where the guide specifies it. “Online” means playing over the internet, which may require PlayStation Plus. Counts and requirements are those stated by PlayStation in the linked listings and guide.

Best PS5 couch co-op games for a group
Overcooked! All You Can Eat: teamwork under pressure
Choose this when the group wants to coordinate rather than simply take turns competing. PlayStation lists local co-op for two to four players and up to four online players with PS Plus. The edition combines Overcooked!, Overcooked! 2 and additional content. Its default kitchen challenges can feel frantic, but the product listing highlights Assist Mode options such as slower recipe timers and the ability to skip levels, useful for groups that prefer a gentler pace. See PlayStation’s Overcooked! All You Can Eat listing.
Sackboy: A Big Adventure: cooperative platforming
Sackboy is the better fit for a group that wants to move through platforming levels together rather than compete for a score. PlayStation lists one to four players and up to four online players; online multiplayer requires PS Plus. It can also be played alone, so it remains an option if the group size changes. See PlayStation’s Sackboy: A Big Adventure listing.

Vampire Survivors: compact split-screen co-op
PlayStation’s guide lists two to four local co-op players in split-screen. It also notes a meaningful multiplayer adjustment: weapon slots are reduced and level-ups are divided among players. That changes how progression works compared with solo play, so it is worth knowing before choosing it for a group that expects four separate solo builds.
Diablo IV: a two-player couch pair that can join another pair
PlayStation describes Diablo IV as two-player local co-op on a single screen. The local multiplayer guide says a local pair can meet another pair online to form a party of four. Choose it for a group that wants a longer-form action role-playing game, rather than a quick round-based party activity.

Competitive local multiplayer: sports, fighting and racing
Sports games for familiar rules and quick rematches
PlayStation’s guide lists local modes for two to four players in EA SPORTS FC 26, NBA 2K26 and WWE 2K25. They are natural picks when the group wants direct competition and already enjoys soccer, basketball or wrestling. The player counts describe the guide’s local modes; the cited guide does not specify online counts or screen arrangements for these entries.
Fighting games for one-on-one matches
Tekken 8 is listed for two local players, making it a straightforward choice for head-to-head play. It does not meet a four-player couch requirement as one simultaneous local match, based on the player count in PlayStation’s guide.

Racing for split-screen competition
For two racers, PlayStation lists Gran Turismo 7 with split-screen. For a larger local group, its guide lists split-screen for two to four players in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. These are the clearest racing options in the guide for a shared-screen setup; check the specific game modes before planning a gathering around a particular format.
Does Fortnite support PS5 split-screen?
Yes, but the local option is specific: PlayStation describes two-player split-screen for supported Battle Royale modes, including Duos and Squads. It is not an unrestricted four-player couch game. If three or four people need to play locally on the same PS5, choose a title with a listed local count of up to four instead. See PlayStation’s local multiplayer guide.

How to choose the right PS5 game for your group
- For four people cooperating on one PS5: consider Overcooked! All You Can Eat, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, or Vampire Survivors. Their cited PlayStation pages or guide list local play for up to four.
- For an explicitly split-screen setup: Vampire Survivors and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds are listed for two to four local players; Gran Turismo 7 is listed for two. Fortnite’s split-screen is limited to two players in supported modes.
- For a cooperative pair: Diablo IV offers two-player local, single-screen co-op; Sackboy and Overcooked! also accommodate smaller groups.
- For competitive matches: choose a sport, Tekken 8 for two-player fighting, or a racing game based on the size of the group.
- Check the controller count before starting: a second DualSense controller is how player two joins a game that supports another local player. For more than two people, make sure you have enough controllers for the game’s stated local count.
- Separate couch play from online play: online player counts and PS Plus requirements are only stated above where PlayStation’s cited listing provides them. Do not infer that a local player count also applies online, or vice versa.
Why ASTRO BOT is not a party-game pick
ASTRO BOT may appeal to families and PlayStation fans, but PlayStation’s product listing identifies it as a one-player game. It therefore does not fit a recommendation for multiplayer on one PS5. See PlayStation’s ASTRO BOT listing.
