For a static React single-page app, Cloudflare Pages is usually the lowest-cost choice at scale, Netlify offers the smoothest all-round workflow, and Vercel is the strongest fit for Next.js or other server-rendered React applications. Firebase Hosting is sensible when your project already uses Firebase services, while AWS Amplify is best reserved for teams invested in AWS. The right answer depends on commercial-use rules, build limits, routing, framework requirements and how usage is billed—not just the advertised free tier.

Best React hosting in 2026 at a glance

Platform Best for Free-tier position Important limits or billing behavior
Cloudflare Pages Static React sites with high traffic and predictable builds Unlimited sites, seats, requests and bandwidth are stated on the Pages product page; the free plan is aimed at personal or hobby projects that are not business-critical One concurrent build, 500 builds per month and a 20,000-file cap per site on the free tier
Netlify The easiest general workflow, with forms, redirects and deploy previews $0 plan with 300 credits per month Hard credit cap; projects pause when credits are exhausted until the next billing cycle
Vercel Next.js, server rendering and applications already using Vercel features Hobby is free for personal, non-commercial work Hobby includes 100 GB Fast Data Transfer and 1 million function invocations monthly; projects pause at the limit. Commercial use requires Pro or Enterprise
Firebase Hosting React front ends paired with Firestore, Authentication or other Firebase services Reported Spark limits are 10 GB hosting storage and 360 MB data transfer per day, but those figures come from secondary sources and should be checked against current Firebase documentation Blaze is pay-as-you-go beyond the free allowance
AWS Amplify Organizations already operating inside AWS No verified flat free-tier figures are stated here Per-use billing, more configuration and stronger AWS lock-in than the simpler static hosts

For Netlify’s current credit definitions and plan prices, consult its official pricing page. Vendor limits and prices can change, so confirm them before committing a production budget.

What React hosting actually has to provide

A React application is usually compiled into static assets: an HTML entry point, JavaScript bundles, stylesheets, images and fonts. A hosting service must publish those files over HTTPS, run your build command when code changes, and direct visitors to the right files. That sounds simple, but the best platform depends on what happens beyond the first page load.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Build automation: The service should connect to your Git repository, install dependencies, run the production build and retain logs when a build fails.
  • Single-page routing: React Router and similar client routers need a fallback that serves index.html for unknown paths. Without that rewrite, a direct refresh of /settings or /games/123 commonly returns a 404.
  • Traffic economics: Static files are cheap to serve, but bandwidth, build minutes, function calls and image transformations may be metered separately.
  • Runtime compatibility: A static bundle can run almost anywhere. Server-side rendering, edge functions or Node-specific packages narrow the practical choices.
  • Operational controls: Preview deployments, redirects, custom domains, environment variables, rollback and access control save time as a project grows.

Decide first whether you are deploying a purely static bundle or a React framework that executes code on the server. A Vite or Create React App build can use any of the five platforms below; a Next.js application generally benefits from a platform with first-class support for its server and edge features.

Cloudflare Pages: lowest delivery cost for many static sites

Why it stands out

Cloudflare’s Pages product page says all plans include unlimited sites, seats, requests and bandwidth. That makes Pages attractive for a public, asset-heavy React site whose main cost driver is delivery traffic. The statement is a vendor description rather than an independent benchmark, so treat it as a plan feature to verify when you purchase.

The free plan is positioned for personal or hobby projects that are not business-critical. For a commercial application, review the current plan terms and decide whether the service-level and support options meet your requirements rather than assuming that unlimited bandwidth means unlimited operational capacity.

Limits that still matter

Free-tier build limits are concrete: one concurrent build, 500 builds per month and a maximum of 20,000 files per site. A monorepo with many packages, generated assets or unusually frequent preview builds can hit those ceilings even when visitor bandwidth is effectively unlimited. Consolidate unnecessary builds, reduce generated files and reserve previews for branches that need review.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Functions and Node compatibility

Pages Functions run on the Workers runtime rather than Node by default. Secondary technical coverage reports that Node-only libraries may require changes or may not work at all. If your React app uses a server function, test every dependency in that runtime before moving production traffic. A static-only build avoids most of this concern.

Netlify: the easiest all-round React workflow

What you get

Netlify is the most balanced option when a team wants a straightforward Git-to-production pipeline plus built-in forms, redirects and deploy previews. Each pull request can produce an isolated preview URL, which is useful for reviewing UI changes without building a separate staging system.

Current plans and credit behavior

Plan Price and allowance What happens at the limit
Free $0 and 300 credits per month Hard limit; projects pause until the next billing cycle when credits are exhausted
Personal $9 per month for 1,000 credits, one member, with optional auto-recharge Usage is governed by the selected credit allowance and any recharge setting
Pro $20 per month for 3,000 credits with unlimited team seats Higher credit tiers are available; overage and rollover rules depend on the tier

A July 14, 2026 changelog lists Pro credit tiers of 3,000 credits for $20, 5,000 for $33, 10,000 for $63, 15,000 for $95 and 20,000 for $126. Rollover applies only to tiers of 5,000 credits or more. Some secondary pages still quote Pro at $19; the official 2026 figure is $20.

Netlify’s April 2026 changelog says bandwidth and compute rates doubled compared with earlier credit rates. The exact per-gigabyte credit cost was not established here, so model your expected traffic with the current calculator rather than converting credits from an older article.

Who should choose it

Choose Netlify when deployment ergonomics matter more than squeezing every last dollar from bandwidth. It is particularly practical for marketing sites, documentation, prototypes and teams that rely on redirect rules, form handling and visual review links. The free plan is useful for small projects, but a popular site can pause unexpectedly if its monthly credit budget is reached.

Vercel: the natural home for Next.js, with a commercial-use catch

Why React teams use it

Vercel is designed around modern React frameworks, especially Next.js. If your application uses server-side rendering, incremental regeneration, edge middleware or framework-specific image and function features, Vercel usually requires the least adaptation.

Is Vercel free for commercial use?

No—not on the Hobby plan. Vercel’s 2026 Fair Use Guidelines limit Hobby to personal, non-commercial use. Commercial use includes work performed by a paid employee or consultant, so a company website, client project or revenue-producing application needs Pro or Enterprise.

Hobby and Pro economics

Hobby includes 100 GB of Fast Data Transfer and 1 million function invocations per month. When a Hobby project exceeds its allowance, the project is paused until the next billing cycle, and Hobby users cannot purchase extra usage to keep it running.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Pro costs $20 per month per developer seat and includes a $20 usage credit. Additional usage is billed pay-as-you-go. That model is flexible for a growing application, but a sudden traffic spike can create a bill that is larger than the seat price. Set spend alerts, inspect function and transfer metrics and keep expensive server work out of paths that can be cached.

Firebase Hosting: choose it when Firebase is already your platform

Firebase Hosting is most compelling when your React front end already depends on Firestore, Firebase Authentication, Cloud Functions or related services. Keeping identity, database rules and deployment in one ecosystem can reduce integration work and simplify access control.

Secondary sources report a Spark free plan with 10 GB of hosting storage and 360 MB of data transfer per day, with Blaze pay-as-you-go billing beyond that. Those figures were not verified against current Firebase pricing documentation, so treat them as provisional and check the live terms before estimating a production budget. If you only need static file hosting and do not use Firebase services, another platform may be simpler.

AWS Amplify: a fit for AWS-centric teams

AWS Amplify provides deep integration with AWS services and can assemble authentication, APIs, storage and hosting around a React application. That is valuable when your organization already has AWS accounts, IAM policies, logging and billing processes.

The trade-off is complexity. Configuration spans AWS concepts that are unnecessary for a small static site, billing is usage-based, and moving away later can require replacing several managed services. The available evidence does not establish a single Amplify price or free allowance, so obtain a current estimate from your AWS account before selecting it on cost grounds.

Cloudflare Pages vs Netlify for React

Question Cloudflare Pages Netlify
Which is cheaper for very high static traffic? Usually Cloudflare Pages, because the product page states unlimited bandwidth on all plans Credits account for bandwidth and compute; the free plan has a 300-credit hard cap
Which has the simpler built-in workflow? Strong Git deployment, but function runtime choices need more care Forms, redirects and deploy previews are integrated into the standard workflow
What can stop a free project? Build concurrency, monthly build count or the 20,000-file limit Exhausting 300 monthly credits pauses projects until reset
Who should be cautious? Teams depending on Node-only server libraries Teams with unpredictable traffic that cannot tolerate a hard monthly pause

For a brochure site, portfolio or game community page that serves many static assets, Pages is often the better cost experiment. For a team that needs review links, redirect management and forms immediately, Netlify usually saves more engineering time.

How to choose the best host for your React app

  1. Identify the runtime. Static Vite or Create React App output points toward Pages or Netlify. Next.js server rendering points toward Vercel. Firebase features point toward Firebase Hosting, and an existing AWS architecture points toward Amplify.
  2. Check commercial permission. Do not deploy a business or paid client project on Vercel Hobby. Confirm the business-use language of any free plan before launch.
  3. Estimate the metered resource. Count monthly builds, transfer, function calls, generated files and team members. The cheapest headline price can be irrelevant if your dominant resource is capped.
  4. Decide how much failure is acceptable. A personal project can tolerate a pause at the monthly reset. A revenue-producing site may need paid capacity, alerts and a support path from day one.
  5. Test your dependencies. Run authentication, image processing, API calls and server functions in the target runtime. Workers-based functions are not drop-in replacements for Node.
  6. Plan a migration path. Keep build commands, environment variables and redirect rules documented so the static front end can move without rewriting application code.

Free React hosting: what “free” really means

Free hosting is excellent for learning projects, open-source demos and low-traffic personal sites. It is not a guarantee of uninterrupted service. Netlify pauses projects at 300 credits, Vercel pauses Hobby projects after its included transfer or invocation limits, and Cloudflare Pages can constrain build throughput even when delivery bandwidth is advertised as unlimited.

Before choosing a free tier, answer four operational questions:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Does the plan permit your use case, especially commercial work?
  • What exact event pauses, throttles or disables the project?
  • Will you receive an alert before the limit, and can you buy extra capacity?
  • Can you redeploy the same static files to another host if the service is unavailable?

Keep the repository and build instructions independent of the provider. A static React bundle is portable; provider-specific forms, functions and identity services are the parts that create lock-in.

Deploying a React app safely

  1. Confirm the production build locally. Run the script defined in package.json, commonly npm run build. Record whether the output directory is dist, build or another path.
  2. Connect the repository. Select the correct branch and set the same Node.js major version used in local and continuous-integration builds. Lock dependencies with the repository’s lockfile.
  3. Enter the build settings. Supply the install command, build command and publish directory. A wrong publish directory can produce a successful deployment with a blank page.
  4. Add environment variables. Put public configuration in the provider’s environment settings and keep secrets out of the React bundle. Anything referenced by client-side code can be inspected by visitors.
  5. Deploy a preview first. Open the generated URL, test navigation, asset loading, forms and API calls, and inspect the browser console for mixed-content or CORS errors.
  6. Configure the custom domain. Add the domain in the host dashboard, publish the required DNS records and wait for certificate issuance. Test both the apex domain and the www variant if you use both.
  7. Set the single-page rewrite. Configure a catch-all rule that serves index.html for application routes while leaving real files such as JavaScript, CSS and images untouched. The exact screen or file differs by platform.
  8. Monitor after launch. Watch build failures, transfer, function calls, cache behavior and billing. Set an alert before a free-tier ceiling or paid usage threshold is reached.

Fixing React Router 404 errors

A client-side router changes the URL in the browser, but the host still receives the URL on a hard refresh. If the server looks for a physical settings/index.html file and none exists, it returns 404 before React can start.

The fix is a host-level rewrite from unknown application paths to the root index.html, with a successful response status so the browser keeps the requested URL. Add the rule in the provider’s redirect or rewrite configuration, then test:

  • Opening the home page in a new private window
  • Refreshing a nested route
  • Visiting a nested route directly from an external link
  • Requesting a real asset such as /assets/app.js
  • Checking that an intentional 404 route still renders your React not-found component

Do not apply a blanket rewrite that intercepts API endpoints or static assets. If your application uses server rendering rather than a static bundle, follow the framework’s routing model instead of forcing every request to one HTML file.

Cost and scaling pitfalls

Traffic spikes

Static hosting can absorb a sudden audience more gracefully than a stateful server, but metered plans still count transfer, builds or function execution. Vercel Pro’s pay-as-you-go model is the clearest example: a viral page can increase the bill even when the monthly seat price is unchanged.

Build storms

Every push, preview and automated dependency update can consume build capacity. Cloudflare Pages’ one-concurrent-build and 500-build monthly limits make excessive preview generation visible; Netlify’s credit accounting can have a similar effect. Cancel redundant jobs and deploy only the branches that need review.

Oversized bundles

Large JavaScript bundles slow first load and increase transfer. Use route-level code splitting, compress images, remove unused dependencies and inspect the production bundle before selecting a plan based on bandwidth.

Hidden provider dependencies

Forms, authentication, image optimization and functions are convenient, but they make migration harder. Keep business logic in portable APIs where practical, document provider-specific settings and export redirects and environment-variable names.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When to move from one platform to another

Move from a free tier when pauses or build ceilings are affecting users, not merely because a competitor advertises a larger number. Move from a static host to Vercel when server rendering or Next.js features become central. Move from a general host to Firebase Hosting or Amplify when your application already depends deeply on their databases, identity and cloud functions. Conversely, move back toward a static deployment when server features have disappeared and usage costs no longer justify them.

A migration is safest when the React build is reproducible from a clean checkout, the output directory is documented, routing rules are version-controlled and DNS can be changed with a short TTL. Deploy the new host under a temporary domain, run the full route and asset checklist, then switch DNS and keep the old deployment available during propagation.

Final recommendation

Pick Cloudflare Pages for a static React site where delivery volume is the main concern and the build limits fit your workflow. Pick Netlify when your team values the most complete beginner-friendly deployment experience, especially forms, redirects and previews. Pick Vercel for Next.js or server-rendered React, but budget for Pro or Enterprise if the project is commercial. Use Firebase Hosting or AWS Amplify when their surrounding ecosystems are already part of your application.
