For a prerecorded YouTube channel that needs to run continuously, StreamNeo is the most direct alternative to consider first: it loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so your computer does not have to stay on. It supports uploads up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and the first day is free. If you want to manage the encoder yourself, OBS Studio can loop a local file; Restream’s own loop is limited to 10 plays and a 40-hour stream.
Which Restream alternative fits a looping YouTube channel?
The key distinction is continuous, unattended playback versus scheduled events or a locally managed stream. These options do different jobs; a scheduled prerecorded broadcast is not automatically an endless loop.
| Option | What it does | Best suited to | Important limit or check |
|---|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Loops uploaded videos and playlists from the cloud to YouTube. | A channel that should keep playing while the operator’s computer is off. | YouTube only; review storage and billing period before choosing a slot. |
| OBS Studio | A Media Source can restart a file after playback completes. | Someone comfortable running a local encoder and keeping the computer and connection available. | The sources cited here do not establish managed cloud uptime, scheduling, or 24/7 monitoring. |
| StreamYard | Can automatically air a scheduled prerecorded broadcast even if the user is offline at its start time. | Scheduled prerecorded events. | The documentation reviewed does not establish endless looping. Retrieved pricing information lists maximum prerecorded durations of 2 hours on Core and 4 hours on Advanced; check current plan and destination limits. |
| Restream | Supports scheduled prerecorded videos and paid looping. | Scheduled events and multi-destination workflows already built around Restream. | Up to 10 plays and 40 hours for a looped stream; playlists do not support looping. |
| Custom YouTube Live Streaming API integration | Lets developers schedule broadcasts and associate them with video streams. | A developer building custom broadcast automation. | It requires implementation and authorized API operations; it is not a ready-made streaming service. |
Choose based on the runtime you need, whether playback must repeat, whether a computer can stay on, recovery and automation requirements, destinations, archive needs, plan limits, and budget. No hands-on reliability or output-quality comparison is established here.
What Restream’s looping feature actually allows
Restream’s Help Center describes looping as a paid feature. A prerecorded video can be looped up to 10 times, and a looped stream can run for no more than 40 hours. Restream also says playlists do not support looping. Those limits make it a poor match if your requirement is a genuinely continuous channel rather than a finite event.

Restream’s help pages say YouTube does not impose a broadcast duration limit, but that does not mean every long broadcast will be archived. Restream states that only streams under 12 hours are archived. This is Restream’s description of YouTube behavior, which can change; verify YouTube’s current live and archive settings before relying on it.
How to loop a prerecorded video with OBS
OBS is the clearest documented do-it-yourself route for replaying a local video file. It is not a cloud scheduler: the computer running OBS, its network connection, and the stream must remain available for the broadcast to continue.

- Set up YouTube Live. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and obtain its stream key. Keep the key private; anyone with access may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and connect your account or enter the stream key. Labels and connection options can vary by OBS version.
- Add the recording. In the scene where the video should play, use Sources > + > Media Source, select the file, and enable the Media Source’s Loop property. OBS documents this property as specifying whether the file restarts once playback has completed.
- Check the scene and audio. Confirm the video fits the canvas, audio is routed to the stream, and the file plays from beginning to end. If you use multiple scenes or files, test transitions and the order in which sources become active.
- Start the broadcast and monitor it. Start streaming in OBS, then confirm the incoming picture and sound in YouTube Studio. Keep the computer awake, OBS running, the source file accessible, and the network stable for the entire broadcast.
The OBS documentation cited here establishes file looping, not a recommended bitrate, resolution, keyframe interval, or a managed 24/7 operating configuration. Set output to suit your source, connection, and YouTube’s current live encoder guidance rather than treating an arbitrary setting as universal.
When StreamYard is a better fit than a loop
StreamYard documents scheduled prerecorded broadcasts that air at the selected time even when the user is offline. Its current-at-retrieval pricing results list plan-dependent prerecorded durations: 2 hours on Core and 4 hours on Advanced. The Help Center states a scheduling horizon of up to 365 days in advance. These details describe scheduled broadcasts, not proof of an endless loop or a continuously running channel; confirm the current plan limits and supported destination before paying.

Before streaming, make sure your video and audio are cleared for live use. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can trigger a placeholder, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. Even if you have a license, the rights holder may need to allowlist your channel through Content ID. Use the copyright safety checklist before going live. You can also estimate transfer time with the upload-time calculator and compare local and cloud operating costs with the cloud vs PC cost calculator.

Prerecording does not remove copyright obligations. YouTube says it scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies a match, it may show a placeholder and warn the operator; continued use can interrupt or terminate the stream. For licensed third-party material, the rights holder may need to add your channel to a Content ID allowlist. Obtain the rights needed for the recording, music, and other included material, and resolve allowlisting before relying on a long unattended broadcast.

Common problems and practical fixes
- The stream stops when you leave: With OBS, the encoder is local. Check that the computer has not slept, OBS is still running, and the network is connected. A scheduled event that starts while you are offline is different from a continuous cloud loop.
- The video plays once and ends: Confirm that the OBS Media Source’s Loop property is enabled. If using Restream, remember that its documented loop count and runtime are finite.
- YouTube interrupts the broadcast: Check YouTube Studio for warnings or claims. Third-party content can lead to a placeholder, interruption, or termination; licensed content may still require Content ID allowlisting.
- The live stream exists but has no usable archive: Long broadcasts and archived replays are separate. Restream says YouTube archives only streams under 12 hours, but verify current YouTube behavior and your archive settings before depending on a replay.
- A hosted prerecorded event exceeds its plan limit: Check the service’s current plan, maximum duration, and destination rules before scheduling. StreamYard’s retrieved plan limits are 2 hours on Core and 4 hours on Advanced, and may change.
When a custom YouTube API integration makes sense
Google’s YouTube Live Streaming API supports scheduling broadcasts and associating broadcasts with video streams. It can be a foundation for custom control, but requires development work and authorized API operations. It is a fit when you need a bespoke workflow and have the capacity to build and maintain one, not a simple replacement for a managed looping service.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can StreamNeo stream to Twitch or Facebook?
No. StreamNeo streams uploaded videos to YouTube only.
Does a scheduled prerecorded stream automatically loop forever?
No. Scheduling describes when a broadcast begins; it does not establish endless playback. Check the service’s documented loop behavior separately.
