How to choose a retro collection
Start with the games you want to play, then check what kind of versions a collection contains. Arcade-native compilations, NES-era collections, and multi-platform histories offer different experiences even when their lineups share familiar names. After the roster, compare practical features such as save and rewind options, display settings, leaderboards, multiplayer, and screen orientation.
Regional listings, editions, prices, and availability can change. Check the current Nintendo or publisher listing for your region before buying.

Best arcade-focused collections
Namco Museum: best for coin-op classics and vertical play
Bandai Namco’s Namco Museum listing names PAC-MAN, Dig Dug, Galaga, Galaga ’88, The Tower of Druaga, Rolling Thunder, Rolling Thunder 2, Sky Kid, Splatterhouse, and Tank Force, alongside PAC-MAN VS. The collection supports horizontal and vertical screen layouts, per-game challenge modes, and stop-and-resume play. The publisher’s launch announcement says classic games other than PAC-MAN VS. support online rankings.
PAC-MAN VS. has a distinctive hardware requirement for its four-player arrangement: it uses two Switch consoles, with up to three players controlling ghosts on one console and the PAC-MAN player on the other. Check the setup details if that game is a major reason for your purchase.

Capcom Arcade Stadium: best for variety and convenience features
Nintendo UK’s Capcom Arcade Stadium page describes three packs spanning 1984–2001, covering shooters, fighting games, and action titles. 1943: The Battle of Midway is available as a free download. Listed features include cabinet and scanline display options, rewind, speed adjustment, save and load, and online leaderboards.
Nintendo’s US bundle listing describes 30 additional games plus Ghosts ’n Goblins, and says pack games can also be bought individually. Multiplayer availability varies by game and is local. The listing warns buyers to avoid purchasing content they already own, so check your library and the exact bundle contents before checkout.

Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection: best for Konami’s 1980s arcade games
Nintendo’s listing for Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection describes eight 1980s arcade games and a bonus eBook containing development interviews and archival material. Its lineup includes Scramble, TwinBee, Nemesis/Gradius, Salamander/Life Force, Typhoon/A-Jax, Haunted Castle, Vulcan Venture/Gradius II, and Thunder Cross.
The listed play options include mid-game saves, difficulty settings, and display options. Nintendo gives the collection an April 18, 2019 release date and marked its Nintendo Switch 2 compatibility status as supported when the page was accessed; consult the current regional listing for updated compatibility information.

Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration: best for a playable history
Atari describes Atari 50 as an interactive journey through 50 years of games, with more than 100 playable classics and six new titles by Digital Eclipse. Its scope extends well beyond arcade games: Atari lists arcade, Atari 2600/5200/7800, 8-bit computers, Lynx, and Jaguar. Interactive timelines bring together trivia, interviews, and playable games.
Choose Atari 50 if you want a guided history across Atari platforms as well as games to play; it is not an arcade-only compilation. Atari’s official site also lists an Expanded Edition physical edition. Regional contents and current stock should be checked on the specific product listing.

Namco Museum Archives Vol. 1 and Vol. 2: best for NES-era versions
Bandai Namco describes Namco Museum Archives as NES-era collections combining historic arcade-derived games with sequels and other titles. Vol. 1 includes Galaxian, Xevious, Mappy, PAC-MAN, and Dig-Dug, among others. Vol. 2 includes Pac-Land, Dig Dug II, Galaga, Rolling Thunder, and Gaplus. The publisher lists widescreen display, saves, replay, and rewind.
These volumes are worth considering if you want those NES-era versions, but they are not the same proposition as Namco Museum’s arcade-focused collection.

Which one should you pick?
- Choose Namco Museum if its PAC-MAN, Galaga, Dig Dug, and other arcade titles appeal, or if vertical screen layouts matter to you.
- Choose Capcom Arcade Stadium if you want a broad Capcom selection and features such as rewind, speed adjustment, saving, and online leaderboards; verify which pack or bundle contains the games you want.
- Choose Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection if Konami’s 1980s lineup, especially its shoot-’em-ups, is the draw.
- Choose Atari 50 if you want an interactive cross-platform history rather than an arcade-only set.
- Choose Namco Museum Archives if NES-era versions are specifically what you want.
No apples-to-apples performance or emulation testing is available for these collections here, so the comparison is based on their published rosters and features rather than claims about input lag or which one plays best.
