The best rhythm game depends on how you want to play: drum along in Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival, swing through notes in VR with Beat Saber, fight to the beat in Hi-Fi Rush, or try instrument-controller play with Guitar Hero. For a music-game experience inside Fortnite, Fortnite Festival offers Main Stage and Jam Stage. Check platform, hardware, song access, and current online features before choosing.
How to choose a rhythm game
These games do not all ask you to do the same thing. Some focus on matching notes, some put a physical instrument or drum controller in your hands, and others make rhythm part of movement or combat. Start with the input and style you want, then check whether the game is available on your platform and whether its songs or online modes require extra access.

Best rhythm games by play style
Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival — best for drumming and group play
Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival is a drum-based rhythm game with solo play, DON-chan Band, and the competitive Great Drum Toy War mode. Bandai Namco lists it for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam/PC. The publisher also promotes a demo on its official game page.
The song counts describe separate access tiers: Bandai Namco advertises up to 76 songs in the game, hundreds more online, and a paid subscription service with access to over 500 songs. Those numbers should not be read as 500 songs included with a standard purchase; song access and catalog size can change. Check the game listing for your region and edition.

#1 Best Overall
- Tune in and groove to a variety of games that will challenge your rhythm
- Chop flying veggies, flap along with birds of a feather, and more to catchy original music—including tracks by renowned Japanese musician Tsunku♂
- Nintendo Switch Games: Please visit this game’s page on the official Nintendo website for the most up-to-date compatibility information.
A standard controller is an option; a drum peripheral is optional rather than a prerequisite. PlayStation identifies the Taiko no Tatsujin Drum Controller as compatible with the game on PS5, PS4, and Windows PC. Check the exact peripheral and edition listing for the platform you plan to use.
Beat Saber — best for VR movement
Beat Saber turns rhythm play into physical movement in virtual reality. It is the clearest pick here if you want to swing through incoming notes rather than play with a conventional gamepad, but it requires compatible VR hardware.

- DESIGN NEW STYLES - Customize your outfits, hairstyles, and makeup.

PlayStation support has specific limits: Beat Games says PS4/PS5 updates stopped in June 2025, and PlayStation multiplayer ended on February 26, 2026. The game and music packs released before June 18, 2025 remain purchasable on PlayStation. These caveats apply to PlayStation; do not assume they describe other platforms. Check the current listing for your headset and platform.
Hi-Fi Rush — best for rhythm-action combat
Hi-Fi Rush is an action game in which the world syncs to the music, and combat is built around rhythm. Choose it if you want a beat-driven action adventure rather than a game devoted mainly to hitting notes on a chart. Its official site describes it as “an all-new action game where the world syncs to the music.” The available platforms and current listings are not established here, so verify the store page for your device before buying.

Fortnite Festival — best for music modes within Fortnite
Fortnite Festival is a way to play music-game modes within Fortnite. Epic says its Battle Stage went offline on April 16, 2026; Main Stage and Jam Stage continue to be improved. If a competitive Battle Stage is the feature you want, this is no longer the right fit.
Guitar Hero — best for instrument-controller nostalgia
Guitar Hero represents the instrument-controller side of rhythm games: play along using a guitar-shaped controller. The series is a useful choice if that tactile style is what you miss, but the available evidence does not establish current stock, which editions work with which controllers, or whether a particular peripheral is available. Verify the exact game, platform, and controller before purchasing.

What to check before you buy
- Confirm the platform and edition. A game being available on one console does not establish availability on another. For Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival, Bandai Namco lists Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam/PC; confirm the live regional listing before purchase.
- Match the game to your hardware. Beat Saber needs compatible VR equipment. A Taiko drum controller is optional, with compatibility documented for specific platforms. Do not assume an older guitar controller works with a particular Guitar Hero edition.
- Separate included songs from paid access. For Rhythm Festival, the publisher distinguishes the in-game library from online songs and subscription access. Review the current offer and subscription terms rather than treating the largest catalog figure as included content.
- Check whether the mode you want is still online. PlayStation multiplayer for Beat Saber has ended, and Fortnite Festival’s Battle Stage is offline. The status of other platforms and features may differ.
- Check current regional listings. Availability, song catalogs, subscriptions, and services can change. Confirm the price, edition, included content, and peripheral compatibility in the store for your region.
