Best Rogue Builds in Solasta II: Shadowcaster vs. Scavenger

Shadowcaster is the strongest all-purpose Solasta II Rogue recommendation for spell utility and party skills; Scavenger suits a simpler weapon-focused approach.

Shadowcaster is the best all-purpose Rogue choice in Solasta II if you want exploration skills, spell utility, and flexible combat turns. Prioritize Dexterity and Intelligence, take Expertise in Stealth and Sleight of Hand, and use attack-roll spells to set up Sneak Attack when its other conditions are met. Choose Scavenger instead for a simpler weapon-focused style, a once-per-turn damage rider, and better shop prices.

These recommendations are for the level 4 Early Access build guidance available as of October 2026—not a promise about later progression. Solasta II remains in Early Access on PC through Steam, and updates can change Rogue details.

Which Rogue build is best in Solasta II?

For most players, choose Shadowcaster. Its Intelligence-based Wizard-list spellcasting broadens the Rogue’s options in and out of combat, and certain damaging spells that require an attack roll can qualify for Sneak Attack if the usual conditions are satisfied. Scavenger is a good alternative if you prefer to keep your turns focused on weapons rather than spell choices.

A September 14, 2026 community tier list places Shadowcaster in A tier and Scavenger in F tier for its level 4 meta. That is the author’s editorial ranking, not a measured performance result; its criteria favor Shadowcaster’s utility and options. A simpler martial play style or Scavenger’s shop benefit may matter more to you than that ranking.

Rogue fundamentals that shape either build

Rogues bring party value beyond damage. The class guide lists proficiency with simple weapons, longswords, shortswords, rapiers, hand crossbows, and light armor; Dexterity and Intelligence saving throws; four selected Rogue skills; and Thieves’ Tools. At the start, Expertise doubles the proficiency bonus for two skills in which the Rogue is proficient.

  • Sneak Attack: Once per turn, a finesse or ranged weapon attack can add Sneak Attack damage when its conditions are met, including having advantage against the target or an ally next to it. Shadowcaster’s eligible spell attacks can also work, subject to those other rules.
  • Cunning Action: At level 2, Dash, Disengage, or Hide can be used as a bonus action.
  • Steady Aim: At level 3, gain advantage on the next attack roll that turn if you have not moved. The trade-off is that your remaining movement for the turn becomes zero.
  • Level 4 choice: Choose a feat or an ability score improvement.

For a trap-and-lock specialist, make Sleight of Hand a priority. Stealth and Perception are natural choices for scouting and setting up encounters. The two build guides recommend Stealth, Sleight of Hand, Investigation, and Acrobatics, with Expertise in Stealth and Sleight of Hand; adapt that spread if your party already covers some of those jobs.

Shadowcaster: the utility and spell-attack build

Starting attributes and skills

One level 1–4 build guide recommends a Spy background and an allocation of Dexterity 16, Constitution 14, and Intelligence 16. It treats Strength as a lower priority because the Rogue’s weapon attacks use Dexterity. These are that guide’s choices, not requirements for every Shadowcaster. Its suggested skills are Stealth, Sleight of Hand, Investigation, and Acrobatics, with Expertise in Stealth and Sleight of Hand.

Spell choices

The guide suggests the Annoying Bees and Poison Spray cantrips, plus Shield, Expeditious Retreat, and Ray of Sickness as starting spells. It associates them with disrupting concentration, adding a defensive reaction, and improving mobility. Spell availability and descriptions can change during Early Access, so check the versions shown in your installed game before committing to a choice.

  • 50 ILLUSTRATED GAME CARDS AND MORE: The Talisman Alliances game includes 50 game cards that bring peril and aid in the form of enemies and strangers, magical objects, and places to visit, plus a doom tracker, tokens, and more

Shadowcaster spells use Intelligence. A damaging spell or cantrip that requires an attack roll can apply Sneak Attack when the other Sneak Attack rules are also satisfied; do not assume every spell qualifies simply because it deals damage.

Level 4 choice and trade-off

The guide recommends increasing Dexterity by two, up to 18. Shadowcaster offers more ways to respond to encounters, but spell selection and limited spell resources add decisions compared with a weapon-first build. The same guide flags post-level-4 progression as speculative, so its later-level suggestions should not be treated as confirmed current-game features.

Scavenger: the straightforward weapon build

Subclass features and level 4 feat

Scavenger’s Serrated Edge adds 1d6 slashing damage the first time per turn you hit with a weapon attack. Its Haggler feature changes party shop prices: purchases cost 10% less and sales bring 10% more. These are in-game mechanics, not real-world discounts.

The build guide recommends a Dexterity-forward setup and the same suggested skill and Expertise spread: Stealth, Sleight of Hand, Investigation, and Acrobatics, with Expertise in Stealth and Sleight of Hand. At level 4, it recommends Ambidextrous, which raises Dexterity by one and allows dual-wielding weapons that are not Two-Handed or Heavy.

Weapon play and positioning

The guide’s weapon suggestion is a rapier in the main hand with a useful offhand weapon; it notes that Early Access has a limited loot pool. When you can stay in place for the turn, Steady Aim can grant advantage on your next attack roll and help enable Sneak Attack if the hit lands. If you need to reposition, remember that using Steady Aim prevents further movement that turn.

Scavenger is easier to keep weapon-focused than Shadowcaster, and its once-per-turn damage rider gives that approach a direct payoff. It does not provide Shadowcaster’s spellcasting. The build guide’s higher-level advice is speculative beyond level 4, so treat it as a current early-build option rather than a confirmed progression plan.

Shadowcaster or Scavenger?

Your priority Better fit Why
Skills, magical utility, and tactical choices Shadowcaster Wizard-list spells use Intelligence, and eligible spell attacks can interact with Sneak Attack.
A straightforward weapon-focused turn Scavenger Serrated Edge adds once-per-turn weapon damage, while Haggler benefits party shop prices.
Advice for the described level 4 Early Access range Either Both build guides provide early choices; neither establishes later progression as current fact.

Check the installed Early Access version

Solasta II’s official site lists October 2026 hotfixes and says Early Access is available on PC through Steam. The official September 10, 2026 Early Access Update 1 notes document Rogue changes, including the addition of Cunning Action / Hide, and a correction to the Shadow Caster DC display in the UI log. Older build advice may therefore no longer match every detail in the live game.

The guides describe their practical recommendations through level 4, but the official October news page does not independently confirm a current level cap. Verify features, spell descriptions, and available choices in your installed version rather than assuming the guides’ speculative post-level-4 advice is established. The official class description says: “Rogues focus on agility and stealth to take down enemies and solve problems.”
