The best Nintendo 3DS roguelike depends on whether you want fast, randomized action or a slower dungeon RPG. The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is the clearest action-focused pick, while Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity suits players who want changing dungeons in a Pokémon adventure. A third title, Dragon Fang Z: Rose and Dungeon of Time, appears in Nintendo Japan’s catalogue, but its English-language and availability details are not established by the cited listing. This is a practical shortlist, not a definitive ranking of every 3DS release.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth — best for action runs
Nintendo describes The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth as “a randomly generated action RPG shooter with heavy Rogue-like elements.” The description makes it the most straightforward choice here if you want real-time combat and runs built around random generation. Nintendo UK lists the New Nintendo 3DS release date as 29 October 2015. Nintendo UK’s game page

Check your hardware first
This handheld edition is compatible only with New Nintendo 3DS, New Nintendo 3DS XL, and New Nintendo 2DS XL. An original Nintendo 3DS or Nintendo 3DS XL is not listed as compatible, so check the model before looking for a copy.
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity — best for changing dungeons
Nintendo UK says Gates to Infinity has more than 20 dungeons, with layouts that change every time the player enters. The game also involves gathering items and treasures to progress and recruiting Pokémon encountered in dungeons. That makes it a natural fit for players who want repeatable exploration within a Pokémon setting. Nintendo lists the European release date as 17 May 2013, with both a Nintendo 3DS game-card version and a download version. Nintendo UK’s game page
#1 Best Overall
- This renewed game will not come with the original case or manual; cartridge only. It has been cleaned, tested, and is in nice condition.
Finding a copy now
Nintendo ended purchases on Nintendo 3DS-family eShops from 27 March 2023, so a new digital purchase is no longer an option through that store. The game-card edition is therefore a useful search term when looking for a copy. Used listings vary; check the seller’s description, condition, region, and compatibility before buying. This does not mean every previously purchased download or offline feature stopped working. Nintendo UK’s eShop service notice
Dragon Fang Z — a Japan-catalogued discovery
Nintendo Japan’s 3DS software catalogue lists ドラゴンファングZ 竜者ローゼと宿り木の迷宮 by Toydea as a downloadable release dated 23 December 2019. The catalogue entry does not establish its gameplay details, English localization, or availability outside Japan. Treat it as a title to investigate rather than assuming it is accessible in English or in your region. Nintendo Japan’s 3DS software catalogue

Can you still buy 3DS games digitally?
No new purchases can be made through Nintendo 3DS-family eShops: Nintendo UK gives 27 March 2023 as the end of purchases. Nintendo Japan’s notice specifies that eShop sales ended on 28 March 2023 at 9:00 Japan time. Its separate notice says online play services ended on 9 April 2024 at 9:00 Japan time. These are regional notices for the service changes; they do not establish that all offline play or every previously purchased download became unavailable. Nintendo Japan’s service notice
