Adventure ships favor speed, Trade ships favor cargo capacity, and Combat ships favor crew capacity and fighting ability—but a ship’s specialization is only the starting point.
How ship roles affect your choice
The game’s three main specializations are Adventure, Trade, and Combat. Official guidance describes Adventure ships as faster than ships of the same grade, Trade ships as having higher load capacities, and Combat ships as able to carry more crew and use strong artillery or ramming abilities. These are role-level distinctions, not proof that every ship in a category will outperform every alternative in a particular fleet.

Use the specialization to narrow your choices, then compare the individual ship and your intended use. The official Beginner Guide: How to Use Ships and Basic Growth Guide: Ship Details explain the role differences.
Best ships by role
Adventure and exploration
For exploration, start with an Adventure ship and prioritize speed alongside any route-specific attributes you need. The official ship catalogue lists the Sambuk, Victoria, and Large Schooner as examples to consider. The newer Grade 27 roster also includes Adventure Wither.

Do not choose from the label alone. Check whether the vessel meets the Seaworthiness, Momentum, or Ice Breaking requirements for the waters you intend to cross, and compare its actual stats with your other available ships. The listed ships are role examples, not a tested or universal ranking.
Trade and cargo hauling
For hauling, prioritize Load Capacity, then check trade-related expertise and whether the ship can manage your planned route. Nao, Buss, and Carrack are catalogue examples. For players with access to Grade 27 ships, Trade La Couronne is another option: LINE Games’ 2026 ship table lists its Load Capacity as 473–675 and Seaworthiness as 110–157. Those are in-game attribute ranges, not player-population statistics or comparative performance results.
Rank #2
Trade La Couronne has a substantial access gate: building the listed Grade 27 variant requires at least 6 billion investment in its corresponding port, according to the official Grade 27 ship notice. The same notice lists Adventure Wither’s Load Capacity as 420–600; that figure is not a reason to treat it as a trade ship, since its listed specialization is Adventure.

For combat, choose around your preferred attack approach, enemy type, and fleet role. Galleon, Galleass, and La Reale are catalogue examples. Among the Grade 27 options, the official notice lists Artillery and Ram La Couronne variants and a Melee Wither variant. These names indicate different combat approaches; they do not establish one as best in every encounter.

Combat has a three-type matchup cycle: Charging is strong against Assault, Assault is strong against Artillery, and Artillery is strong against Charging. Support is unaffected by that cycle. Consider the opposing type as well as your own ship’s attack type when choosing a combat vessel.
Fleet support
If you need a support-focused ship, the Support Wither is a listed Grade 27 option, while Support is also a combat category. Whether it suits your fleet depends on what the rest of your ships need; a role label alone does not establish that your lineup benefits from another support vessel.

What to compare before committing
Ship performance depends on more than specialization. The official ship catalogue and shipbuilding guidance notes that stats can vary within a range and are somewhat influenced by Build Level. Equipped parts, assigned Mates, and whether the Captain meets the ship’s minimum operation conditions also affect how well the ship can be used.
- Purpose and specialization: Match Adventure, Trade, or Combat to the task you want the ship to perform.
- Relevant attributes: Compare speed for travel, Load Capacity for hauling, crew capacity and combat characteristics for fighting, and durability or sail values where they matter to your plan.
- Route requirements: Check for needed Ice Breaking, Seaworthiness, or Momentum before taking a ship into particular waters.
- Combat type: For fighting, account for the Charging–Assault–Artillery matchup cycle; Support is outside that cycle.
- Build and operation readiness: Confirm the Captain meets minimum operation conditions, and consider your parts and assigned Mates rather than judging only the base ship.
- Grade and access: A high-grade ship may be unavailable or impractical at your current stage. Compare its build gate with the ships you can use now.
For the exact ship you are considering, inspect its current in-game details before committing. The catalogue was updated on 2025-04-02, while the Grade 27 notice provides newer variants and requirements; ship balance, variants, and unlock requirements may change.

Why there is no one best fleet setup
Fleet needs vary, and ship focus is not the only influence on combat behavior. In the May 2026 Director’s Letter, game director Cheolwoo Park said a change would let an Admiral’s Quick Skill take priority over a ship’s basic focus setting, “Through this, you can set up the role of each Ship more precisely.” Read that as added control over role settings, not an official recommendation for a single ideal combat configuration. See the May ’26 Director’s Letter for the explanation.
