For a comic premise with a sharp role reversal, start with The Times—Pirates and Compliance. For awkward idol fandom, try Idol If. These are spoiler-light editorial picks based on the missions’ official descriptions—not a measured ranking of player favorites.
What are the best side missions in Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii?
SEGA’s official adventure page highlights both missions for their unusual setups. They offer different flavors of the game’s comedy, so which one to prioritize depends on what kind of story you enjoy.
The Times—Pirates and Compliance
Choose this one for absurd role reversal: Majima and a pirate captain attend pirate-themed compliance training after the captain’s old-fashioned behavior alienates crew members. The premise puts a modern workplace ritual in the hands of a pirate crew, making it a strong pick for comic culture clash. SEGA’s adventure page describes the setup.
Idol If
Choose Idol If for awkward fandom and a tonal shift. Majima accompanies a young man on an idol bus tour after the fan becomes too intimidated by his own enthusiasm to go alone. Its appeal is the contrast between the young man’s excitement and his nerves, rather than a promise of a particular reward or gameplay challenge. SEGA’s adventure page outlines the premise.

- PIRATE YAKUZA ADVENTURE AHOY - Goro Majima, a notorious ex-yakuza suddenly finds himself shipwrecked on a remote island in the Pacific. Unable to remember even his own name, he sets sail in search of clues to his lost memories, accompanied by a boy named Noah who saved his life.
- GET YOUR SHIP TOGETHER - Assemble a one-of-a-kind crew while upgrading your ship as you explore the open sea and forge your legend in the cannon fire of foes, unexpected friendships, and immense riches made along the way.
- KICK ARRSS WITH CREATIVE COMBAT - Dynamically switch between the “Mad Dog” and “Sea Dog” fighting styles to mix-up attacks and deliver explosive combos, juggles, and aerial takedowns that reward your creativity with over-the-top action.
Which substories should I do first?
If those premises sound appealing, prioritize them when they become available; progression governs access, so neither should be assumed available at the start. PowerPyx’s walkthrough, published February 23, 2025, reports 31 substories, with the first available in Chapter 2 and additional ones opening as the story advances. That is a guide-reported count, not a quality ranking.
Substories can also lead into other content. PowerPyx notes early unlocks that include Photo Rally, pet-rescue objectives, Crazy Delivery, and the Ounabara Vocational School activity. If you want optional content with a practical payoff beyond another story, keep an eye out for missions that open an activity you would like to try.

What else counts as side content?
Substories are only one kind of optional content. SEGA also describes several side activities that should not be counted as substories:
