This is the featured Spellblade example from Electronic Arts—not a proven best build for every fight. Your ideal setup depends on how you play, the enemies’ weaknesses and resistances, and the abilities your companions bring.
Which Spellblade abilities should you equip?
EA’s featured Spellblade setup pairs three active abilities with the ultimate Thunderous End:
- Meteor
- Wall of Fire
- Chain Lightning
- Thunderous End (ultimate)
Use this as a starting point, then judge each slot by how well it suits the encounter and your preferred combat approach. The official example is a useful recommendation, but EA does not publish damage comparisons showing that it outperforms every alternative.
How should you spend Spellblade skill points?
Rook earns one skill point per level and can reach level 50, according to Electronic Arts’ 2024 progression guide. The skill tree is a constellation of node types, rather than a simple linear list:

- Diamonds: assignable abilities.
- Medium circles: major passives or ability upgrades.
- Small hexagons: traits.
- Small circles: minor passives or stat boosts.
Prioritize upgrades and passives that support the abilities and combat style you actually use. That is a practical way to build around EA’s description of a tree designed for cohesive builds, not an official level-by-level Spellblade route. When a new ability, enemy matchup, or gear setup changes your priorities, reconsider where your points go.
When should you change your loadout?
Enemies have different weaknesses and resistances, so a setup that feels effective in one encounter may not be the right fit for another. EA says you can swap abilities outside combat and respec individual nodes or the entire skill tree without spending resources. Experimenting is therefore part of building your character, not a costly commitment.

Companion abilities matter too. When a companion primes an enemy and another character uses a compatible detonator, the combo triggers a detonation that deals increased damage and stagger. Check whether your Spellblade abilities and companion choices work together instead of evaluating each ability in isolation.

There is no official universal ranking of Spellblade setups. When choosing between options, compare the factors that affect your own fights:

- Enemy defenses: Account for the weaknesses and resistances of the enemies in the encounter.
- Companion combos: Consider whether your party can prime and detonate targets effectively.
- Comfort and playstyle: Keep abilities you enjoy using; a theoretical setup is not useful if it does not suit your approach.
How to earn skill points through leveling
Quests are EA’s largest source of experience, with larger and more momentous quests granting larger bonuses. Enemies and exploration also provide XP. Since Rook earns one skill point per level and has a level cap of 50, pursuing quests is the clearest route to continued progression; combat and exploration contribute along the way.
