How to choose between builds
Start with your progression stage, then match the build to the activity and gear you can actually use. A leveling recommendation is not automatically the best option for endgame pushing, and a build label alone does not tell you how demanding its gear setup is.
- Progression: Choose a leveling setup while advancing your character; compare endgame builds once you are building around endgame gear and Paragon.
- Activity: Decide whether you mainly want general farming or to push harder content. Do not assume a single tier label proves equal performance in both.
- Damage style: Pestilent Swarm is the endgame recommendation in the current D4Guides.gg listing; Storm Stinger is a current Lightning-focused alternative listed by Mobalytics.
- Gear availability: Check whether the specific version depends on particular Uniques or mythic items, and whether the guide offers a version for players who do not have them.
What to check in a build guide before switching
Use the full current-season setup rather than copying only the build name or a headline skill. Current build references provide details such as skills, gear and aspects, Paragon, and Spirit Hall choices; some have variants for different item availability. Verify the details on the page for the exact build version you intend to follow.

Why old Vessel of Hatred builds may no longer fit
Build advice is seasonal. Blizzard’s Season 15, Season of Hell’s Legacy, notes document several Spiritborn balance changes: the team fixed Tzic Rune scaling that had incorrectly granted a large damage increase and reduced the maximum stacks of Aspect of Supremacy. Blizzard also described compensating buffs to Spiritborn Paragon boards, Core Skills, Potency Skills, Unique weapons, and Thorns builds. A launch-era guide—or one built around the unintended rune scaling—may therefore no longer describe the current setup. Read Blizzard’s Season 15 notes alongside any older guide you are considering.
Do you need Vessel of Hatred to play Spiritborn?
Yes. Blizzard’s official season page lists Vessel of Hatred as required to play Spiritborn. See the official Diablo IV season page for that access requirement.

How certain are the current rankings?
The S-tier labels are useful signposts for choosing what to investigate, but they are community guide rankings—not official Blizzard results or a shared test of every build on identical gear, character progression, and activities. Treat Stinger for leveling and Pestilent Swarm for endgame as current starting recommendations, then use the guide details and your own goal to choose a version. Storm Stinger is another current option, but the available listing does not establish that it is better overall.
