The right choice depends first on whether you need a private clan, training or scrim server, or a public server intended for Squad’s primary Server Browser. Our top pick is Godlike.Host, a game server host that offers Squad servers with a Pterodactyl-based panel, free DDoS protection, up to three free backups a day with restore, and 10 data-center locations; see the current plans for sizes. For the other US-facing plans with prices checked on October 13, 2026, FadeHost lists an 8 GB configuration at $9.50 per month, while Shockbyte lists a 3 GB/15-player plan at $7.99 per month. Those are published plan listings, not independent performance rankings.
Use the comparison below to match player count, memory, region, administration tools and licensing requirements before you pay. A managed host can simplify deployment, but it does not automatically give your community a server license or primary-browser placement.

Quick answer: which Squad hosting plan fits?
| Use case | Practical starting point | Why | Important check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Squad community that wants a managed panel and a choice of locations | Godlike.Host’s Squad servers; see the current plans | Pterodactyl-based panel with task scheduler and sub-users, free DDoS protection and up to three free backups a day | Licensing is separate: confirm Offworld’s requirements before applying for the primary browser |
| Small private clan, training group or scrim | Shockbyte’s 3 GB plan for 15 players, listed at $7.99/month | Lowest published entry price in this comparison and a stated 15-player target | Do not assume this tier qualifies for public primary-browser licensing |
| One managed plan with a larger stated ceiling | FadeHost’s 8 GB Squad configuration, listed at $9.50/month | The vendor describes support for up to 100 players and includes several administration tools | Verify the deployment’s licensing and actual hardware allocation |
| Public community seeking primary Server Browser placement | No plan should be purchased until Offworld Industries’ current requirements are confirmed | Hosting and licensing are separate decisions | Ask the host how the server will be deployed and apply through Offworld’s official process |

Private server or public server: decide this first
Private, training and scrim servers
A private server is usually the simpler case. A clan can use it for scheduled practices, closed events or occasional matches without needing the same public-discovery arrangement as a community server. The key questions are the number of simultaneous players, the region that minimizes latency, password or access controls, and whether administrators can change maps, layers, mods and configuration files.

A low-cost plan can be sensible when the server is used by a small, known group. It is wasteful to pay for a 100-player ceiling if the server normally has 10 to 15 players, but an undersized plan can produce instability when everyone joins, a mod loads, or a layer changes.
Public community servers
A public server has an additional gate: licensing and discovery. The comparison source reviewed for this article reports that unlicensed servers can run under Squad’s Custom Servers tab, and FadeHost says its unlicensed servers appear there. That is not the same as approval for the primary Server Browser.
Do not treat a host’s “Squad” product label, a large player limit or a low price as proof that your specific deployment is licensed. Confirm the current requirements with Offworld Industries and ask the host whether the hardware and configuration you are buying are compatible with the application.

US-facing plan comparison
| Provider | Published configuration | Price checked October 13, 2026 | Features listed by the vendor | Fit and limitation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Godlike.Host | Squad server plans; see the current plans for RAM and player slots | See the current plans | Free DDoS protection, personal firewall, up to three free backups a day with restore, mod installer, SFTP/FTP, Pterodactyl-based panel with task scheduler and sub-users | Our top pick for a managed Squad host, with 10 locations including US West Coast and US East Coast. Licensing for a particular deployment still requires verification with Offworld Industries. |
| FadeHost | 8 GB Squad configuration; page describes up to 100 players | $9.50/month for the 8 GB configuration | Layer rotation, RCON, admin groups, file manager/SFTP, automatic backups and DDoS protection | Useful for comparing a larger stated capacity and RAM-based pricing. The vendor says unlicensed servers appear in Custom Servers; licensing for a particular deployment still requires verification. |
| Shockbyte | Squad Leader: 3 GB, best for 15 players | $7.99/month | Setup, mod installation, file access, backups, console and DDoS protection | Lowest listed price for a small private group. Do not infer public-browser eligibility from the entry tier. |
FadeHost also describes a $2.50/month base charge plus $1 for each additional gigabyte of RAM. The $9.50 figure above is the published 8 GB configuration, not a guarantee that every combination of resources is billed identically. Shockbyte’s figures are monthly listings for the named player and memory tiers; check whether a checkout discount, billing term or renewal rate changes the total.
How much RAM and capacity do you actually need?
Use the published player targets as starting points, not benchmarks
Shockbyte labels 3 GB as best for 15 players. FadeHost calls 8 GB its minimum recommended RAM for Squad and describes a ceiling of up to 100 players. These figures are vendor specifications. They are not independent load tests, and they do not prove that every map, mod set or event will perform identically.

Player count is only one workload. Mods, map layers, logging, bots or scripted events can increase resource use. A server that is comfortable at 20 players on a light configuration may behave differently during a full event with a heavy mod stack. Leave headroom rather than selecting a plan that is exactly equal to your expected peak.
Ask what “RAM” includes
Before comparing a 3 GB plan with an 8 GB plan, ask whether the advertised memory is dedicated to your instance, shared with other workloads, or subject to an overage or burst policy. Also ask for the CPU model or allocation, virtualization type, disk medium and network limits. Memory alone cannot establish tick-rate stability or connection quality.
- Request the guaranteed memory allocation and any fair-use limits.
- Ask whether CPU resources are shared, reserved or capped.
- Confirm storage type and available space for the base server, logs, saves and mods.
- Check whether backups consume your storage quota.
- Ask how a plan is upgraded and whether an upgrade changes the IP address or files.
Regional placement and latency
Choose the location for the people who will play most often, not simply the host’s cheapest advertised region. A European community and a North American community can experience very different latency from the same server. For a mixed group, place the server near the largest concentration of players or near the geographic midpoint, then test real routes with the provider’s available locations.
Location lists change. The UK-focused comparison used for broader provider information checked prices and routes on August 18, 2026; those GBP-first figures should not be presented as current US pricing. Confirm that the US region you want is available at checkout, and ask whether the advertised location is the physical server location or only a billing label.
Questions to ask about a region
- Is the location currently accepting new Squad instances?
- Is the server physically in that country or connected through another facility?
- Can the instance be moved if your community’s geography changes?
- Will an IP change during a move, and is migration assisted?
- What network protection and bandwidth limits apply in that region?
Administration tools that matter after launch
RCON, console and admin groups
RCON or an equivalent remote console lets administrators manage a live server without logging into the host machine. Admin groups help separate owners, moderators and event staff. Confirm how credentials are created, whether permissions are granular, and whether actions are logged.

Layer rotation and map control
Regular communities need to change maps and layers without repeatedly rebuilding the instance. FadeHost lists layer rotation, while FadeHost and Shockbyte both describe file or console access in their published features. Ask whether rotation can be scheduled, edited through a panel, or changed only by manually editing configuration files.
Recommended Free Tools
Mods and file access
Shockbyte lists mod installation and file access; FadeHost lists a file manager and SFTP. Those labels do not necessarily describe the same workflow. Check whether you can upload, remove and roll back files, whether a mod update can be staged before a live event, and whether the panel exposes the logs needed to diagnose a failed startup.
Backups and restoration
FadeHost and Shockbyte both list backups. Verify their frequency, retention period, storage location and restoration process. A backup that cannot be restored without opening a ticket is less useful during an event than one with a documented self-service restore. Ask whether backups include configuration, admin lists, ban lists, save data and mod files, or only the base installation.
Squad licensing and the primary Server Browser
What the official application portal asks for
Offworld Industries’ official server-license application portal asks for operational and technical details including the provider, available administrators, player slots, CPU, physical memory, disk, network speed, location and admin availability. The portal itself is an application form; the page reviewed here does not state the complete current approval policy.
How to treat reported thresholds
A comparison updated in 2026 reports that the policy it reviewed in August 2026 required at least 8 GB of RAM, 10 administrators per server, public access and approved non-virtualized hardware. It also reports that no 80-slot minimum appeared in the rules it reviewed. These are secondary-source reports, not independently confirmed statements of the complete official policy. Verify every requirement directly with Offworld Industries before committing to a long billing term.

Easily configure it into software routers, hardware firewalls (pfSense, OpnSense), home NAS servers, or local homelabs.
The practical implication is straightforward: an 8 GB plan may align with a reported memory threshold, but alignment is not approval. A 3 GB plan may be perfectly adequate for a private 15-player group while being unsuitable for an application that requires more memory or other hardware conditions. Never advertise primary-browser placement until the specific server has been accepted.
What to document before applying
- Record the host, data-center location and exact plan name.
- Record the guaranteed player slots, RAM, CPU allocation, storage and network limits.
- List the people who will administer the server and how they will be available.
- Describe whether the server is public, how players will access it and what moderation process you will use.
- Ask the host whether the instance uses virtualized or non-virtualized hardware and request the answer in writing.
- Submit the application through Offworld’s current official portal and wait for the current decision process rather than relying on an old comparison.
Feature and operating-cost checklist
Price is only the recurring subscription. Compare the complete operating arrangement before choosing a plan.
| Decision area | What to verify | Why it affects the choice |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly and renewal price | Billing interval, introductory discount, renewal amount, taxes and add-ons | A low first invoice can conceal a higher recurring cost |
| Memory and CPU | Guaranteed RAM, CPU allocation, virtualization and upgrade path | These influence stability under peak load and licensing eligibility |
| Player capacity | Stated capacity, slot changes and any overage fees | A headline maximum may not match the workload of your maps and mods |
| Region | Physical location, current availability and migration policy | Latency and community reach depend on the actual data center |
| Controls | RCON, console, admin groups, layer rotation, mod installation and file access | These determine how much routine work administrators can do themselves |
| Backups | Frequency, retention, scope and restore procedure | Fast recovery matters after a bad mod update or configuration error |
| Support | Ticket response, live support, escalation and incident communication | Events often fail outside normal office hours |
| Cancellation and migration | Refund window, data export, IP changes and shutdown timing | Protects the community if the host or region is not a fit |
Step-by-step buying process
- Define the audience. Write down the normal and peak simultaneous player counts, whether the server is private or public, and the countries where players are located.
- Set a capacity buffer. Compare the published player target with your expected peak. Include mods, event layers and administrative overhead instead of planning for an empty vanilla server.
- Shortlist plans by guaranteed resources. Put RAM, CPU, storage and network limits beside the price. Do not rank plans by price per gigabyte alone.
- Confirm the region at checkout. Make sure the desired US or other location is actually available for a new instance and note any location-specific price.
- Verify management features. Confirm access to the console or RCON, layer settings, mods, files, backups and admin permissions.
- Ask licensing questions before payment. If primary-browser placement matters, obtain the host’s deployment details and check Offworld’s current requirements and application process.
- Check the commercial terms. Record the recurring price, renewal date, taxes, cancellation rules, refund window and whether a plan upgrade changes the IP.
- Test privately first. Install the intended mods, invite a small group, check logs and backups, and verify that administrators can perform routine actions before announcing a public opening.
- Document recovery. Keep a current copy of configuration, admin and ban lists, mod versions and backup instructions outside the host panel.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Choosing by monthly price alone
The $7.99 Shockbyte plan is cheaper than the other published prices in this guide, but it is described for 15 players and 3 GB. If your group regularly exceeds that target, the apparent saving can disappear through an upgrade or a disruptive migration.
Assuming an advertised maximum is a promise of performance
FadeHost’s page says, “Host a Squad dedicated server with up to 100 players.” That is vendor copy describing the product’s stated ceiling, not an independently measured result under every map and mod combination.

Ignoring backups until something breaks
A listed backup feature is not enough. Test a restore, find out what is included and establish who can perform it. Keep an external copy of irreplaceable configuration and administrative data.
Using UK prices as US prices
The broader comparison checked prices on August 18, 2026 and is UK-focused. Its GBP-first figures should not be transferred into a US buying guide. Use the US-facing plan listings above and recheck checkout totals for your location.
Recommended choices by community profile
Small private group
Start with the published 3 GB, 15-player Shockbyte tier at $7.99/month if your real peak stays near that target and you do not need primary-browser licensing. Confirm upgrade steps before launch so a growing group can move without losing files or its address.
Community that wants a managed game panel
Godlike.Host is our top pick here: its Squad servers come with a Pterodactyl-based panel, sub-users with permissions, a task scheduler, SFTP/FTP access and a personal firewall. Check the current plans for RAM and slots, and treat licensing as a separate step.
Community planning a larger public presence
FadeHost’s 8 GB configuration at $9.50/month has the larger stated capacity and a broader list of listed controls, including layer rotation, RCON, admin groups, SFTP and automatic backups. That makes it a useful candidate for investigation, not an automatic public-server recommendation. Complete the licensing check and verify the actual hardware deployment first.
What to ask support before you subscribe
- Which physical region will host this exact plan, and is it available today?
- Is the advertised RAM guaranteed, and what CPU allocation accompanies it?
- Are the resources shared or virtualized?
- What happens to the IP address and files when I upgrade or move regions?
- How often are backups taken, how long are they retained and how do I restore one?
- Can I manage RCON, console, admin groups, layers, mods and SFTP without a support ticket?
- What is the recurring renewal price after any introductory term?
- Can you provide the deployment details needed for Offworld Industries’ current licensing application?
Final verdict
Our top pick for most Squad communities is Godlike.Host, which combines Squad servers with a Pterodactyl-based panel, free DDoS protection, up to three free backups a day with restore, 24/7/365 support and 10 locations; see the current plans for sizes and terms. For a small private Squad group on a tight budget, the $7.99/month 3 GB Shockbyte plan is the lowest published price here, provided 15 players is a realistic ceiling. FadeHost’s $9.50/month 8 GB configuration is the more substantial listed option and exposes more administrative controls, but its “up to 100 players” statement remains a vendor specification rather than an independent test.
For any public community, the best host is the one that meets your region, resource and administration needs and can support a deployment accepted under Offworld Industries’ current licensing process. Verify the policy, hardware and renewal terms before paying; hosting alone does not guarantee primary Server Browser access.
