Best Starting Locations in Palworld (1.0 Guide)

The starting beach near 264, -548 is the safest all-round first base in Palworld 1.0. Compare it with early ore sites, an elevated raid-safe location, and Sunlit Isle’s six crude-oil nodes.

For a first base in Palworld 1.0, build on the starting beach near the opening cutscene at approximately 264, -548. It is the safest all-round beginner choice in the available guides: the area is large, has Ore and Paldium Fragment resources, a Normal climate, and enemy levels of 1–3. Move to a dedicated ore site when mining becomes your bottleneck, or to the elevated raid-safe location near 188, -37 or 191, -39 after you have a flying Pal.

There is no universally best location. Your answer changes depending on whether you need a low-risk first home, early ore, raid protection, or crude oil. Coordinates below come from secondary guides, and no independent verification is published; they can differ after the 1.0 map changes. Treat each coordinate as a search area and confirm the terrain in your own world.

What changed with Palworld 1.0

Palworld left Early Access on July 10, 2026, releasing version 1.0 on PC through Steam and the Microsoft Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox. The 1.0 world is not simply the Early Access map with a new label: Sunreach, a group of floating islands, was added, and the World Tree became explorable. Consequently, a pre-1.0 video or map can point to a location that has moved, changed shape, or no longer provides the same resources.

Reported post-launch patches include v1.0.1 on July 15 (bug fixes), v1.0.2 on July 29 (stability), and v1.0.3 on August 12 (balance). One guide refers to a 1.0.5 update, but no independent confirmation of that version is published. Check the build shown by Steam or your console before relying on a newly published coordinate guide. Server Clustering was announced in June 2026, but it was not listed in the July 10 patch notes, so do not assume that feature is available simply because a guide mentions it.

#1 Best Overall

Secondary coverage also reports a level-cap increase from 65 to 80 and 72 new Pals, taking the reported total to 287. Developer release notes do not confirm those figures, so they should not be used to choose a base location. The map additions and the coordinate warnings are the important practical 1.0 changes.

Best starting locations at a glance

Location Approximate coordinates Best use Enemy or access notes
Starting beach by the opening cutscene 264, -548 First base and general beginner start Large area; Ore and Paldium Fragment resources; Normal climate; enemy levels 1–3; no flying Pal required
Windswept Island Watchtower area 8, -526 Early ore-focused base Recommended as a place to establish before Ore Mines; no flying Pal requirement stated
Southwest of the Small Settlement 8, -528 Ore farming with a large building area Large spot; guides report enemy levels 5–15; more dangerous than the starting beach
Elevated, reportedly unraidable location 188, -37 or 191, -39 Raid avoidance after establishing mobility Requires a flying Pal; guides disagree on the exact coordinate
Sunlit Isle 405, -483 Early crude-oil production PC Gamer reports six crude-oil nodes; not the simplest first home

1. Starting beach near the opening cutscene: the best first base

The beach around 264, -548 is the strongest default recommendation for a new character. Game8 describes it as a large beginner base with a Normal climate, Ore and Paldium Fragment resources, and enemy levels of 1–3. Those conditions reduce the number of problems you must solve at once: you can establish your first Palbox and buildings without deliberately moving into a higher-level region, while still having access to two materials used throughout the opening phase.

Why it works for a first settlement

  • Low reported enemy levels: levels 1–3 give a new character more room to learn gathering, building, and Pal management before tackling stronger encounters.
  • Large footprint: the cited area leaves more space for early production buildings, storage, beds, and defensive placement than a cramped shoreline.
  • Two useful resources: Ore and Paldium Fragments make the area more than a scenic spawn point.
  • Immediate access: unlike the elevated raid-safe option, no flying Pal is listed as a requirement.

Its limitation

The beach is a compromise, not a permanent answer to every resource problem. A convenient first base can become inefficient when you need concentrated ore or crude oil. Build it as a launch point: store materials safely, unlock your early infrastructure, and be prepared to establish a second base when a specialized resource becomes the priority.

2. Windswept Island Watchtower: choose it when ore is the bottleneck

Mobalytics identifies the area near the Windswept Island Watchtower at about 8, -526 as a great place to set up before reaching Ore Mines. This is the clearest ore-first alternative to the beach recommendation. It is appropriate when your immediate progression is being slowed by mining rather than by enemy encounters or travel.

When to select the Watchtower area

  • You have already established enough basic shelter and storage to move away from the opening beach.
  • Your crafting queue is waiting on ore more often than on Paldium Fragments.
  • You want an early resource outpost without waiting for a flying Pal.

The guide does not provide an enemy-level range for this location, so do not assume it is as forgiving as the level 1–3 beach. Approach it as an ore-focused site and inspect nearby threats in your own world before committing your Palbox.

3. Southwest of the Small Settlement: a larger ore-farming option

Driffle lists a large location southwest of the Small Settlement at approximately 8, -528. It is also presented as an ore-farming site, but the reported enemy range is level 5–15. That makes it a stronger mid-early-game option than a blind first spawn for a completely new player.

Trade-off versus the beach

Question Starting beach Southwest Small Settlement site
Reported enemy range Level 1–3 Level 5–15
Primary reason to use it Safe, flexible first home Large ore-oriented base area
Best timing Immediately after the opening After you can handle stronger enemies
Flying Pal required? Not stated as required Not stated as required

The coordinate is very close numerically to the Watchtower recommendation, yet the guides describe different landmarks and priorities. That is exactly why you should navigate by terrain and resource nodes rather than placing a base from numbers alone. If the indicated area does not resemble the guide description, leave the Palbox unplaced and re-check the map.

4. The elevated location near 188, -37 or 191, -39: prioritize raid safety

Mobalytics recommends an elevated location as an “unraidable” base spot, but two coordinates are reported: 188, -37 and 191, -39. The disagreement is material. Treat them as two nearby search references, not as interchangeable proof of one exact tile. The recommendation also assumes that you already have a flying Pal, which makes this a poor opening destination for a character still relying on ground travel.

Who should use it

  • Players who have a flying Pal and can reach elevated terrain reliably.
  • Players rebuilding after repeated base attacks and willing to trade convenience for protection.
  • Players who want a long-term headquarters rather than the shortest route to their first shelter.

What to verify before building

  1. Reach the area with the flying Pal that the guide says is required.
  2. Circle the terrain and confirm that the proposed platform actually has enough buildable space for your intended layout.
  3. Watch how enemies approach the site rather than assuming the word “unraidable” is absolute.
  4. Place a minimal test structure first, then confirm that your Palbox and production buildings can fit before moving your main operation.

“Unraidable” is a guide label, not a guarantee for every patch, world setting, or approach route. The coordinate conflict and the 1.0 map changes make in-game verification especially important.

5. Sunlit Isle: an early crude-oil destination

PC Gamer identifies Sunlit Isle at approximately 405, -483 as an early crude-oil location with six crude-oil nodes. That concentration makes it attractive once crude oil, rather than ore, is the resource limiting your production.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why it is usually not your first home

A six-node oil site solves a specialized problem. Starting there would force a new character to organize travel, protection, and infrastructure around crude oil before the basic settlement is established. Use Sunlit Isle as a resource base or later relocation target unless your playthrough is deliberately rushing oil production. No enemy range, climate rating, or mobility requirement is published for the island, so inspect those factors yourself before committing.

How to choose your first base by progression stage

Opening minutes: choose stability

Use the beach near 264, -548 when you want the fewest unknowns. Its reported level 1–3 enemies, large area, and Ore/Paldium access cover the broadest set of early needs. Do not chase a specialized site before you have a functioning storage and production routine.

  • Lightweight, Classic fit, Double-needle sleeve and bottom hem

Early crafting slowdown: choose ore

If ore is delaying your recipes, compare the Watchtower area at 8, -526 with the larger southwest Small Settlement site at 8, -528. The Watchtower recommendation is framed as an early setup before Ore Mines; the Small Settlement site offers a large area but carries the reported level 5–15 enemy range. Select the former when you want a gentler transition, and the latter when you can handle stronger threats and value buildable space.

Established mobility: choose raid resistance

Once you have a flying Pal, investigate the elevated location around 188, -37 or 191, -39. It addresses a different problem from ore: keeping the base out of ordinary raid paths. Confirm the exact ledge and buildable area in-game because the guides disagree.

Oil-focused production: choose Sunlit Isle

When crude oil is the limiting material, scout Sunlit Isle at 405, -483 and look for the six reported nodes. A specialized oil base can coexist with your original beach settlement; you do not need to erase a safe beginner base simply because a later resource has become important.

Step-by-step: placing a first base without committing to the wrong spot

  1. Update first. Confirm that your PC or console is running the current 1.0.x build. A guide written before July 10, 2026 may describe the pre-1.0 map.
  2. Open the world map. Move the cursor toward the candidate coordinate and use the coordinate readout as an approximate search aid, not a guarantee of a precise building tile.
  3. Identify the landmark. Look for the opening beach, Windswept Island Watchtower, Small Settlement, elevated terrain, or Sunlit Isle description attached to the recommendation.
  4. Scout on foot or by air. Check enemy levels, resource nodes, slopes, water, and the amount of genuinely buildable ground. The published coordinate does not establish any of those details unless the guide explicitly says so.
  5. Test the layout. Mentally place the Palbox, storage, beds, production, and defensive structures. A resource-rich patch is still a poor base if buildings cannot fit.
  6. Place the Palbox only after the check. This prevents a coordinate mismatch from becoming an expensive relocation problem.
  7. Keep a relocation plan. Record the beach, ore, raid-safe, and oil candidates on your map so you can establish a second site when your priorities change.

How to verify coordinates in a changed 1.0 map

Coordinates from secondary guides are especially fragile after a map expansion. The Steam community thread commonly circulated for early location advice dates from January 2024, before 1.0, so its coordinates should be treated as outdated unless you confirm them in the current game. The same caution applies to any video whose map overlay predates Sunreach and the explorable World Tree.

  • Lightweight, Classic fit, Double-needle sleeve and bottom hem
  • Use landmarks and coordinates together: a number without the stated landmark can lead you to the wrong side of an island.
  • Look for the advertised resource: the beach should be checked for Ore and Paldium Fragments; the oil site should be checked for the reported six crude-oil nodes.
  • Compare terrain height: the raid-safe recommendation depends on elevation, so a nearby low plateau is not equivalent.
  • Expect small differences: guides may round or transcribe coordinates differently, which is particularly evident in the 188, -37 versus 191, -39 recommendations.
  • Do not force a match: if the terrain, resources, or enemy levels do not fit the description, treat the guide as stale rather than relocating your base blindly.

Common mistakes and recovery plans

Building at a coordinate without checking the landmark

Coordinates are search aids. If you land on the wrong shore or an unsuitable ledge, dismantle only after checking whether the nearby terrain contains the intended resource and build space. A short scouting loop is cheaper than designing an entire production area around a mistaken pin.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choosing raid safety before obtaining a flying Pal

The elevated recommendation specifically requires a flying Pal. If you cannot reach it consistently, use the beach or an ore site first and revisit the elevated location after your mobility improves.

Assuming every ore site has beginner-level enemies

The beach is reported at levels 1–3, while the southwest Small Settlement location is reported at levels 5–15. Do not transfer the beach’s safety assumption to an ore-focused area whose enemy range is higher or unstated.

Using an old pre-1.0 map

Sunreach and the World Tree changed the navigable world. Replace old pins with current in-game landmarks and check the publication date of any guide before following it.

Moving the whole base for one resource

A first beach base remains useful even after you discover an ore or oil hotspot. Add a specialized outpost when possible, and reserve a complete move for cases where the original site is genuinely constraining your layout or production.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A practical recommendation

For most new players, place the first Palbox at the opening beach near 264, -548, then use your next move to solve the resource that is actually limiting progress. Choose the Windswept Island Watchtower area for an early ore emphasis, the larger southwest Small Settlement site when you can manage level 5–15 enemies, the elevated 188, -37 or 191, -39 area after obtaining a flying Pal and confirming the terrain, and Sunlit Isle at 405, -483 when six crude-oil nodes are worth a dedicated trip. None of these coordinates is guaranteed across every 1.0.x build; the landmark, resources, and terrain in your current world are the final authority.
