Start with Truckful’s High or Very High preset and a 60 FPS cap. Developer testing and an independent Steam Deck hands-on report both indicate that this target is realistic through most of the game. If forest scenes make frame pacing uneven, drop to a 45 FPS cap (or 40 FPS for a steadier battery-oriented profile) and use High or Medium. Ultra is the outlier: it can fall substantially in forests and may need a 45 FPS lock or lower.
Truckful has documented full controller support, including DualShock and DualSense support. A custom Steam Input layout is not required to begin playing. Keyboard remapping is documented through a Windows configuration file, but a Deck-native rebinding screen has not been documented.

Recommended Steam Deck profiles at a glance
Choose a profile based on whether you value a high refresh target, visual quality, or longer battery life. The frame-rate behavior below comes from developer statements and a 2026 hands-on report; it is not a universal guarantee for every Steam Deck model, operating-system build, or future patch.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Best all-round starting point | High | 60 FPS | Developer testing reports a steady 60 FPS through most of the game. The hands-on test reported no drops below 60 FPS on High in its run. | Higher power use than a 40–45 FPS profile; individual scenes or later patches may behave differently. |
| Maximum quality without Ultra’s biggest dips | Very High | 60 FPS | The default Very High preset stayed above 60 FPS almost everywhere in the independent test, with one town section reaching 56 FPS. | That isolated town dip and potentially higher power draw than High. |
| Battery-focused play | High or Medium | 40–45 FPS | A lower cap reduces the work the Deck has to do when the game can render well above the target. | Less motion fluidity than 60 FPS; there is no published Truckful-specific battery-hours or wattage result. |
| Visual-quality experiment | Ultra | 45 FPS or lower | Ultra can drop substantially in forest areas, where a 45 FPS lock or lower may be needed. | Less consistent frame pacing and the highest likely power demand of these profiles. |
Set the cap in SteamOS’s per-game Performance controls, then play long enough to reach a town and a forest before judging the profile. Looking only at the opening area can hide the scenes that determine whether a cap is realistic.

Can Truckful run at 60 FPS on Steam Deck?
Yes, a 60 FPS target is credible for most of Truckful, particularly on High and Very High. MythicOwl’s 6 October 2026 Steam update says the team has been extensively testing the game on Steam Deck and found it “maintaining a steady 60fps on high settings throughout most of the game.” An independent Steam Deck HQ hands-on report likewise found the default Very High preset above 60 FPS almost everywhere, with one town section dipping to 56 FPS; in that run, High did not fall below 60 FPS.
Those observations describe “most” scenes, not a locked result in every location. Forests are the key stress case on Ultra, and a town dip was observed on Very High. If you require a completely flat frame-time graph, use High at 60 FPS first and be prepared to use 45 FPS in demanding areas.
What the compatibility badge means
On a 13 October 2026 check, Valve’s store still showed no Verified or Playable badge for Truckful. That badge status is separate from the developer’s testing and the independent performance report: the reports show how the game ran in specific tests, while a store badge reflects Valve’s compatibility process. Check the store page again after updates rather than treating the absence of a badge as proof that the game will not run.

Why performance can change after an update
Patch 1.0.3 was reported as improving Steam Deck and SteamOS stability. Stability work can alter frame pacing, shader compilation behavior, or how a particular scene behaves. Recheck your cap after a major patch, especially if a profile that was previously smooth begins to hitch.

How to set up the 60 FPS High or Very High profile
- Launch Truckful and open its graphics or video settings.
- Select High as the conservative 60 FPS starting point. Choose Very High if you prefer the default image quality and accept the possibility of a town dip.
- Apply the setting and restart the game if Truckful requests it.
- Open the SteamOS in-game Performance menu and set the per-game frame-rate limit to 60 FPS. Keep the limit per game so other titles retain their own settings.
- Drive through at least one town and one forest. Watch for sustained drops, uneven frame pacing, or input response that feels inconsistent rather than reacting to a single counter reading.
- If High remains smooth, you can test Very High. If Very High produces repeated dips, return to High instead of lowering the cap immediately; High is the profile with the strongest 60 FPS evidence.
Choosing between High and Very High
Very High is a sensible first choice when you want the game’s default presentation. The independent report’s single 56 FPS town reading shows the cost of that choice: a technically small drop that may still be visible on a 60 Hz display. High gives up some visual detail while providing more headroom and the cleanest path to a consistent cap.
When to use Ultra
Ultra should be treated as an optional image-quality mode, not the default recommendation. The hands-on report found substantial drops in forest areas on Ultra and suggested a 45 FPS lock or lower there. If you choose Ultra, set a 45 FPS limit before exploring demanding areas rather than waiting for repeated 60-to-40 FPS swings.
Ultra decision checklist
- Use Ultra only if you can clearly see and value its additional detail.
- Start at a 45 FPS cap; lower it if forests still show unstable frame pacing.
- Do not infer that Ultra’s performance represents High or Very High. The reports separate Ultra’s forest behavior from the stronger 60 FPS results on the other presets.
- Return to High if the lower cap feels worse than the visual improvement feels better.
Battery-life settings without a made-up runtime number
A 40–45 FPS cap is the most defensible battery-oriented adjustment supported by the available performance evidence. High or Medium gives the Deck fewer frames to render than a 60 FPS target, which can reduce workload when the game is otherwise running well above the cap. The exact saving depends on your Deck model, display brightness, audio volume, SteamOS version, ambient temperature, and the scene being rendered.

Build and test a 40–45 FPS profile
- Set Truckful to High. Use Medium if you prefer more headroom in forests or want to reduce visual effects further.
- Set the SteamOS per-game frame-rate limit to 45 FPS.
- Play the same town-and-forest route for 10–15 minutes, noting frame pacing, fan noise, and the battery percentage change.
- If 45 FPS feels unnecessarily demanding for your preferred play style, test 40 FPS. A lower cap can be a better compromise than running Ultra with frequent drops.
- Keep the profile only if the motion and controls feel comfortable. Battery gains that make steering or camera movement feel sluggish are not automatically an improvement.
What to measure on your own Deck
- Battery percentage at the start and end of an identical play session.
- Screen brightness and refresh-rate settings.
- Whether the route includes a forest, a town, or both.
- Frame-rate cap and quality preset.
- SteamOS version and Truckful patch number.
Record those conditions with any result. A measurement from a bright outdoor scene at 100% brightness cannot be compared fairly with one from a dark indoor scene at 40%.
Controls and controller support
Truckful’s store listing records full controller support and recommends a gamepad. DualShock and DualSense support are also listed. Patch 1.0.1 added PlayStation controller support and mouse control in the main menu, so a PlayStation pad should be recognized without requiring a community layout.
Start with the standard gamepad layout
- Connect the controller before launching Truckful, or wake the Deck and confirm the gamepad is the active input device.
- Start with the game’s standard gamepad bindings.
- Drive, steer, use the camera, and navigate menus long enough to identify a specific discomfort.
- Change only the input that feels wrong. Avoid replacing the entire layout until you know which action needs a different button.
- Test the revised binding in both driving and menu contexts; a change that helps steering can make menu navigation less intuitive.
There is no evidence that Truckful requires a custom Steam Input layout on Deck. Community layouts can be useful for personal preferences, but they should be an optional refinement rather than a prerequisite.
Keyboard remapping: an important platform limitation
Patch 1.0.2 added a simple keyboard-remapping file. The documented location is %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalLowMythicOwlTruckfulkeyboard.txt, and the file appears after the first run. This is a Windows path. The available documentation does not establish a Steam Deck-specific in-game rebinding screen, nor does it require a particular community layout.

If you need a different keyboard binding
- On Windows, run Truckful once, close it, then open the path above and edit the documented keyboard file.
- On Steam Deck, do not assume that the Windows path exists in the same form or that editing it is supported. Use the standard gamepad controls first.
- If you play with a physical keyboard on Deck and need a remap, treat it as an unconfirmed workaround and keep a backup of any file before changing it.
Mouse control in the main menu was added in patch 1.0.1, but that does not mean every gameplay action has a mouse-driven alternative. For ordinary Deck play, a controller remains the documented, recommended input method.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Troubleshooting common performance problems
Performance is below 60 FPS on High
- Confirm the per-game limiter is actually set to 60 FPS rather than a lower global limit.
- Restart Truckful after changing the quality preset if the game does not apply the change immediately.
- Check whether the slowdown is sustained in a forest or town. A location-specific dip points to scene load rather than a universal setting failure.
- Try Very High only after High is stable; do not raise the preset while diagnosing a drop.
- After patch 1.0.3 or a later update, retest because Steam Deck and SteamOS stability changes can affect frame pacing.
Ultra feels uneven even with a cap
That behavior is consistent with the reported Ultra forest drops. Lower the cap to 45 FPS or less, or switch to High. A cap cannot make a scene render faster than the hardware allows; it only prevents the game from chasing an unattainable target and repeatedly changing frame time.
The game looks smooth but the battery falls quickly
Move from 60 FPS to 45 or 40 FPS, then compare the same route. If the result is still unsatisfactory, lower High to Medium before experimenting with Ultra. Check brightness and other Deck-wide settings as part of your measurement, because the reviewed sources do not provide a Truckful-only wattage baseline.
A controller is detected but a button feels wrong
Keep the standard layout and change one binding at a time through Steam Input if needed. Because full controller support is documented, a complete custom layout should not be your first troubleshooting step. Re-test the changed action in driving and menus before making another change.

Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Keeping settings aligned with future patches
Truckful’s Steam Deck status is still evolving. MythicOwl’s 25 July 2024 pinned discussion described the goal of a stable 60 FPS on the highest settings, and the 6 October 2026 update reported steady 60 FPS on High through most of the game. Those statements show development progress, not a permanent guarantee. Patch 1.0.3’s reported stability improvements are another reason to revisit your profile after updates.
- Note your current preset and frame-rate cap before updating.
- After the update, test the same town-and-forest route.
- Check for new controller behavior, menu changes, or a newly documented remapping option.
- Revisit the Steam store’s Verified or Playable status; the 13 October 2026 check found neither badge.
- Keep the profile that delivers the frame pacing and control response you actually feel, rather than assuming the newest patch requires the highest preset.
Best settings by priority
If you want the smoothest practical 60 FPS experience
Use High at 60 FPS. This has the strongest combination of developer confirmation and independent testing. Move to Very High only if its visual improvement is worth accepting a possible town dip.
If you want the best image quality
Try Very High at 60 FPS first. Ultra is a separate experiment: use a 45 FPS cap or lower and expect forests to be the limiting environment.
