For a June 2023 snapshot, the clearest choices in the available coverage are Civilization VI for empire-building, XCOM 2 Collection for squad tactics, and Into the Breach for compact tactical battles. This is a focused selection, not a definitive ranking of every Android strategy game available at the time. Current Google Play listings can help with present-day access and requirements, but they do not establish what each game cost or supported in June 2023.
Three Android strategy games to consider
| Game | Strategic scale | What the available evidence establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Civilization VI | Turn-based empire-building and 4X strategy | Its current Google Play listing categorizes it as a strategy/4X game, offers new players 60 turns free, and lists expansions for Android. Check the current Google Play listing. |
| XCOM 2 Collection | Squad tactics | The current Google Play listing says Android 13 or later is required and directs players to Feral Interactive’s tested-device and chipset information. Check the current Google Play listing. |
| Into the Breach | Compact tactical battles | Google Play describes warfare on an 8-by-8 grid and associates the Android listing with Netflix. Subscription terms and regional access should be checked on the live listing. Check the current Google Play listing. |
The June 10, 2023 roundup from The Tech Edvocate is a contemporaneous reference that includes Civilization VI and XCOM 2 Collection. It does not make this three-game selection a complete or ranked June list; Into the Breach is included here because its Android listing is confirmed today.

Choose by the kind of strategy you want
For long-term empire planning: Civilization VI
Civilization VI is the fit for players who want to guide an empire through a broader 4X-style strategy game rather than focus on individual battlefield encounters. The current listing’s 60-turn free start is specifically for new players; treat it as a current offer, not a verified June 2023 price or permanent access model. The listing also mentions Android expansions, but the exact purchase and regional terms can change.
For squad-level decisions: XCOM 2 Collection
XCOM 2 Collection is the squad-tactics choice among these three. Before installing, check both the Android 13 minimum shown on Google Play and Feral Interactive’s tested-device and chipset guidance. Meeting the operating-system minimum alone does not guarantee that every device will run the game well or be supported.

For compact tactical encounters: Into the Breach
Into the Breach offers a more contained tactical frame: Google Play describes battles on an 8-by-8 grid. Its Android listing is associated with Netflix, but the evidence here does not resolve whether access requires a subscription in every region or how availability varies. Check the live store listing and applicable Netflix access terms before deciding.
What to check before choosing
- Access and cost: Review the current store listing for purchase, trial, expansion, and subscription terms. Offers can change, and current listings do not establish June 2023 prices.
- Device fit: For XCOM 2 Collection, check Feral Interactive’s compatibility guidance in addition to the Android 13 minimum. For the other titles, verify the live listing for your device and region.
- Solo, multiplayer, and offline play: The cited listings and June coverage do not establish enough detail to make a dependable comparison of multiplayer modes or offline requirements. If either matters to you, confirm it with the publisher or current store information before downloading.
A May 2023 Android gaming community post asked for “good monetization, single player and that are preferably offline.” That wording is one player’s request, not survey evidence; it is a useful checklist of questions to verify rather than a basis for claiming these games meet those preferences. How to read the June 2023 context
This selection is not a reconstructed store chart: the available sources do not establish a comprehensive June 2023 ranking, historical prices, or all titles’ compatibility at that date. Google’s 2023 Google Play awards announcement mentions Clash of Clans among honorable mentions. That is evidence of a mention in the announcement, not proof that it won an award or ranked among the best Android strategy games in June.
