Best Streaming Settings for Cyberpunk 2077: OBS, Bitrate, and FPS

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

There is no single best streaming profile for Cyberpunk 2077. Match your encoder to your streaming platform and hardware, choose a resolution and frame rate your PC and upload connection can sustain, and leave the game enough GPU headroom to render smoothly. If the game or stream stutters, reduce the game’s graphics load or cap its frame rate before assuming you need a hardware upgrade.

Choose settings around your platform, encoder, and PC

Start with the service you stream to: codec support and bitrate limits vary by platform and can change. Then select an encoder your hardware and streaming service support. A hardware encoder can take encoding work off the CPU, but it does not eliminate the need to leave resources for the game.

NVIDIA encoder starting points

NVIDIA’s OBS guide recommends Hardware (NVENC, H.264) for Twitch. For YouTube, it recommends Hardware (NVENC, AV1) on an RTX 40 Series GPU, or NVENC HEVC otherwise. These are vendor starting points for compatible setups, not universal platform rules; confirm current codec support for your account and streaming service before going live. NVIDIA describes NVENC as a dedicated part of its GPUs for encoding.

For NVENC, the same guide recommends CBR rate control, a two-second keyframe interval, the P6 preset, High Quality tuning, and two-pass quarter-resolution multipass. Treat these as a baseline to test, not settings guaranteed to suit every GPU, OBS version, or platform.

Streamlabs Twitch examples

Streamlabs publishes the following example Twitch configurations. They are examples, not universal or necessarily current service limits:

Output Example bitrate
1080p at 60 FPS 6,000 kbps
1080p at 30 FPS 4,500 kbps
720p at 60 FPS 4,500 kbps
720p at 30 FPS 3,000 kbps

For those examples, Streamlabs pairs the output with CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, the Quality preset, and two B-frames. Check your platform’s current recommendations and test your own setup rather than assuming these values fit every stream.

Balance stream quality with Cyberpunk’s GPU demand

The game and stream compete for system resources. A high-resolution, high-frame-rate stream is not useful if the game cannot render consistently, and maxing the game’s graphics settings can leave too little GPU capacity for a smooth broadcast.

Leave frame-rate headroom

For a 60 FPS stream, Streamlabs recommends running Cyberpunk 2077 at 70 FPS or higher as practical headroom. This is a recommendation, not a performance guarantee. If the game cannot maintain that margin, lower demanding graphics settings or reduce the stream’s frame-rate target.

NVIDIA says GPU utilization above 95% can, in some cases, make a stream lag. Its suggested ways to reduce GPU demand include capping in-game FPS, reducing graphics settings or resolution, switching to borderless windowed mode, or enabling V-Sync. Which option works best depends on your PC and setup. Try one change at a time and check both game performance and OBS statistics.

Keep Overdrive optional

Ray Tracing: Overdrive, or path tracing, is a particularly GPU-intensive visual mode and is off by default. CD PROJEKT RED’s support guidance recommends it on GeForce RTX 40 Series cards from the RTX 4070 Ti upward, and on an RTX 3090 at 1080p/30 FPS. That guidance applies to Overdrive, not to streaming in general; it is not a baseline requirement for broadcasting the game.

CD PROJEKT RED’s published PC performance examples list 60 expected FPS for its recommended non-ray-tracing configuration at 1080p/high, its Ultra example at 2160p, and its 2160p Ray Tracing: Overdrive example using an RTX 4080. The Overdrive figure used DLSS Frame Generation. These are the studio’s internal test results, not a promise for your PC; performance varies with hardware, software, graphics settings, and resolution.

Set resolution, frame rate, and bitrate to what you can sustain

Choose output resolution and frame rate together. Higher output settings require more encoding capacity and, generally, more upload bandwidth. A stable lower-resolution stream is preferable to one that repeatedly drops frames. If your PC or connection struggles at 1080p/60, try 1080p/30 or 720p/60, then test whether the stream and game remain smooth.

Bitrate is a network constraint as well as a quality setting. OBS says dropped frames mean the connection to the remote server is unstable or the configured bitrate cannot be sustained. Its troubleshooting guidance suggests testing another server and lowering bitrate; it offers 75% of total upload speed as a starting point, while noting that the streaming service’s limits also constrain bitrate. Lowering bitrate can reduce visual quality. Use a stable wired connection where practical, and assess upload stability rather than relying on a single speed-test result.

Configure and test the stream in OBS

  1. Confirm platform support. Check the current codec, bitrate, and keyframe requirements for your streaming service. Pick a hardware encoder and codec supported by both your hardware and platform.
  2. Set the output target. In OBS, open Settings > Video to choose output resolution and FPS. Start with a target your PC can sustain while playing. If you are unsure, test a lower output target first.
  3. Set encoder controls. Open Settings > Output and select the encoder. For a compatible NVENC setup, NVIDIA’s suggested starting controls are CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, P6, High Quality tuning, and two-pass quarter-resolution multipass. Use the platform’s current guidance if it differs.
  4. Set a conservative bitrate. Keep it within the service’s current limits and below what your connection can sustain reliably. Streamlabs’ Twitch values above are examples only; they do not establish requirements for other platforms.
  5. Run a private or unlisted test if available. Play the game under the graphics load you expect during a real stream. Check game FPS and OBS’s statistics for dropped frames or rendering/encoding lag, then adjust one setting at a time.
  6. Reduce load if needed. If the game stutters or GPU use is close to full, cap game FPS or lower graphics settings before raising stream settings. If OBS reports dropped frames, test another server and lower bitrate.

Protect the soundtrack and account for game updates

Cyberpunk 2077’s Streamer Mode can disable certain songs for streaming or videos featuring game audio, which can help reduce copyright risk. It does not guarantee that every audio track is free of claims. Review the game’s audio options before broadcasting and use music you have permission to stream.

Game and GPU features change with updates. CD PROJEKT RED says Patch 2.21 introduced DLSS 4 support on compatible hardware, including Multi Frame Generation on RTX 50-series cards with 2x, 3x, or 4x settings, and a Transformer model option for Super Resolution and Ray Reconstruction on RTX cards. Availability depends on the installed game build and compatible GPU; these features do not replace testing your stream settings.

CD PROJEKT RED’s published PC requirements include SSD storage. The studio says SSDs offer faster loading, improved streaming, and better overall performance than HDDs. Its stated performance figures can vary with hardware, software, settings, and resolution, so use actual testing on your PC to choose a sustainable profile.

Troubleshoot common streaming problems

Symptom Likely issue What to try
OBS reports dropped frames Unstable connection to the server or bitrate too high for the connection Test another server, lower bitrate, and check upload stability. Keep within the streaming service’s current limits.
The game stutters while the stream is otherwise connected The game may be using too much GPU capacity Cap in-game FPS, reduce graphics settings or resolution, or try borderless windowed mode or V-Sync. Recheck game FPS and OBS statistics.
The stream is smooth but looks soft or blocky Bitrate may be too low for the chosen resolution and motion If your connection and platform allow it, test a higher bitrate. Otherwise, reduce output resolution or frame rate so the available bitrate is not spread too thinly.
Encoding or rendering lag appears The encoder or GPU may lack headroom for the game and chosen output Reduce the stream resolution or FPS, lower game graphics demand, and test again. The best adjustment depends on your hardware and encoder.
Copyright claim or muted audio A soundtrack track may not be cleared for streaming Enable Streamer Mode to disable certain songs, and use only music you have permission to broadcast. Streamer Mode is not a guarantee against claims.
