Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor an interactive online class, start with the meeting or classroom platform your school already supports; students need a place to join, ask questions and participate. Add OBS Studio when you need more control over the video production—such as multiple scenes, a screen-and-camera layout, titles or prerecorded segments. OBS makes the program; it does not provide the student-facing classroom. Zoom offers distinct ways to connect a class to a custom streaming destination or bring an encoder-produced video into certain webinar products. Microsoft Teams live events retired on June 30, 2026, so they are not a current option for a new class event.
If the goal is instead to keep prerecorded lessons available as a continuous YouTube broadcast, that is a different job from hosting a live, interactive class. StreamNeo can loop uploaded videos on YouTube from the cloud, but it is not a classroom meeting service and does not broadcast a live camera.
Which software should you choose?
| Class need | Best starting point | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Students need to speak, ask questions or collaborate | Your school’s supported meeting or classroom service | The platform provides the learner-facing session and interaction; production software alone does not. |
| You want composed scenes, several video sources or custom transitions | OBS Studio paired with a suitable class platform or streaming destination | OBS mixes sources and controls the outgoing production, while the destination handles delivery and interaction. |
| You already use Zoom and need to stream outward | Zoom custom livestreaming, if your account and administrator settings allow it | This sends a Zoom meeting or webinar to a custom platform; it is not the same as sending OBS into Zoom. |
| You need to send an encoder-produced video into a Zoom webinar | Zoom Events or Zoom Webinars Plus incoming RTMP | Zoom’s documented incoming RTMP workflow is limited to those products and has its own requirements. |
| You want prerecorded lessons to run continuously on YouTube | StreamNeo | It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so a computer does not need to stay on; it is for YouTube playback, not interactive teaching. |
Before choosing, check what your institution licenses and permits. Capacity, attendee access, authentication, captions, recording, playback and privacy controls depend on the current product, plan and school policy. The official pages cited below do not establish a complete side-by-side comparison of those features.
OBS Studio: production control, not a classroom
OBS Studio is free, open-source software for video recording and live streaming, available for Windows, Mac and Linux. It can combine a webcam, screen or application window, images, text, browser windows and capture cards into scenes; you can switch scenes with transitions. Its audio mixer includes per-source filters such as gain and noise suppression. Those controls suit a teacher who wants a polished lecture layout, title cards, prerecorded media or a screen-and-camera composition.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
OBS does not give students a room to join or a built-in way to ask questions. Pair it with a student-facing platform or a destination that fits the lesson format. A one-way lecture may not need the same interaction features as a discussion-based class.
Check the teaching computer before building a production
OBS’s system requirements list Windows 10 or 11, macOS 11 or later, and compatible graphics/display support. OBS cautions that meeting its compatibility requirements does not guarantee that a computer can stream or record successfully. CPU load varies with encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity.
- Install OBS from the official OBS Project site and run its Auto-Configuration Wizard.
- Build only the scenes and sources the lesson needs. More layers and effects can raise system load.
- Test the actual camera, microphone, screen capture, destination and network together before class. Check the resulting audio and video rather than assuming that a compatible computer will perform well.
- Keep a fallback way to contact students or deliver the lesson if the computer, network or stream fails.
There is no single bitrate or output resolution that can be prescribed from the available product documentation for every OBS class setup. The right output depends on the encoding hardware, scene complexity, destination limits and available upload bandwidth; use the destination’s current guidance and test on the machine you will teach from.

Zoom: know which streaming direction you need
Zoom’s two relevant workflows solve different problems. Custom livestreaming sends a Zoom meeting or webinar outward to another platform. Incoming RTMP brings a production from an encoder such as OBS into a supported Zoom webinar product. Confirm which direction you need before checking licenses or configuring anything.
Send a Zoom meeting or webinar to a custom platform
Zoom’s custom livestreaming documentation says eligible Pro, Business, Education or Enterprise accounts can stream meetings or webinars to a custom platform when an account administrator has enabled the feature and the host has the relevant Meetings or Webinars license. Higher video quality also depends on the relevant HD video setting. These are account and administrator conditions, not universal defaults.
- Ask the account administrator whether custom livestreaming is enabled and confirm that the host has the necessary license.
- Check the current Zoom instructions and destination requirements for the meeting or webinar you plan to use.
- Run a rehearsal with the intended account and destination before class, including the attendee access and audio/video checks.
Send OBS into Zoom Events or Zoom Webinars Plus
Zoom’s incoming RTMP instructions currently support this encoder workflow only for Zoom Events and Zoom Webinars Plus. Zoom documents a maximum of 1920×1080 at 30 fps for this path and recommends minimum upload rates of 4 Mbps for 720p30 and 6 Mbps for 1080p30. Those are Zoom’s product-specific recommendations, not guarantees of a reliable connection on every network.

- Verify that the event uses Zoom Events or Zoom Webinars Plus and that your account has the needed access.
- Test the complete encoder-to-webinar route before the event. Zoom recommends testing in advance and using a wired connection where possible.
- Where possible, do not run the encoder on the same device you use to connect to the webinar. Zoom recommends a backup plan in case the connection or production fails.
Microsoft Teams: use current town hall information
Microsoft states that the Teams live event experience retired on June 30, 2026, and points users to Teams town halls for the newer event experience. The retirement has passed; do not plan a new class around the retired live-events product. Check Microsoft’s live-events help page for the retirement notice, then verify current town hall capabilities, licensing and institutional settings before choosing it for a class.
Institutional licenses and cost: check before committing
Zoom’s Education Pricing FAQ says eligible accredited K–12 and post-secondary institutions can purchase Zoom One for Education bundles. It lists a 20-license minimum for School and Campus plans and higher minimums for Enterprise plans; Enterprise uses a site-wide coverage model. The FAQ describes a student option for higher education institutions purchasing an Enterprise bundle, subject to terms. These institutional arrangements are not a default offer for an individual instructor. Confirm eligibility, included services, current terms and any quote with your institution or Zoom.

Prepare the class: a practical selection and rehearsal checklist
- Match interaction to the lesson. Decide whether students need discussion, chat, questions or polls, or whether the class is primarily a one-way lecture. Choose the student-facing service accordingly.
- Set the production scope. If a camera and screen share are enough, avoid adding OBS complexity. Use OBS when its scenes, source mixing, titles or transitions serve a clear teaching need.
- Confirm audience access. Check class size, authentication and attendee access against the current plan and school settings; do not carry old Teams live-event rules over to town halls or assume Zoom features across tiers.
- Test the whole route. Rehearse using the same computer, microphone, network, platform, account and access settings planned for class. For Zoom incoming RTMP, check that the upload connection meets Zoom’s recommendations for the selected output.
- Plan for failure. Identify an alternate way to notify students and provide the lesson if the stream stops.
- Review accessibility and privacy. Verify captioning, recording, playback and privacy controls on the chosen service, and follow institutional policy.
Audio clarity is central to teaching, so a microphone may be a useful supporting purchase if your current one is inadequate. OBS supports audio mixing and filters, but no particular microphone model has been evaluated here; choose equipment based on your existing hardware and room.
For prerecorded lessons that should stay live on YouTube
For a continuous YouTube channel made from uploaded lesson recordings, StreamNeo is the #1 option to consider: it runs from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers the first day free. This is a one-way prerecorded-video broadcast, not a replacement for a live classroom where students participate.
StreamNeo uses a YouTube stream key and plays uploaded videos or playlists; it does not broadcast a live camera or stream to other services. Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and StreamNeo team support. The same product is included at every duration; only the billing length changes.
