The mobile documentation does not establish that these apps cannot loop local videos; it simply does not confirm that capability for the options listed. Check the exact current app version and device before choosing a phone-only workflow. OBS Studio itself is not a mobile app: OBS Project says mobile development is outside the project’s current scope and points users to separate mobile streaming apps. OBS Project’s mobile streaming apps page describes that distinction.
How to loop a prerecorded video with OBS Studio
OBS is the strongest documented do-it-yourself choice when a computer can stay powered and connected for the duration of the stream. The controls below concern video playback; YouTube’s Live Control Room and OBS encoder configuration are separate parts of the setup.

- Prepare the video file. Keep the source video accessible on the computer running OBS. Make sure you have the rights needed to stream its audio and video.
- Add a Media Source. In OBS, select the scene where the video should appear, add a Media Source, and select the local file. OBS’s Media Sources guide documents the source and its playback controls.
- Enable looping. In the Media Source properties, turn on Loop. OBS documents that the file starts again after playback completes.
- For several clips, use a playlist source. Add a VLC Video source and configure its playlist, then use Loop Playlist. OBS says that loop control is enabled by default for this source. VLC must be installed for the VLC Video source to work.
- Create the YouTube live stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create a stream. YouTube’s encoder workflow supplies a Live server URL and stream key; configure both in the encoder. Treat the stream key like a password: do not show it on screen or share it publicly. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Check playback before going live. Confirm the intended scene is active, the video is visible, and its audio is present if needed. For a playlist, check that the clips are in the intended order and that playback returns to the beginning when the list ends.
- Start the encoder and monitor the live output. Keep the computer and its network connection available while OBS is streaming. Check YouTube’s Live Control Room for the incoming stream and watch for interruptions.
What the documentation does—and does not—specify
The cited OBS Media Sources guide confirms the loop and playlist controls, but the materials here do not establish a single bitrate, resolution, keyframe interval, or encoder preset for every creator. Choose output settings appropriate to the source, upload connection, and YouTube’s current guidance rather than treating one fixed preset as universal. The exact OBS labels and supported formats can vary with software version and platform.
What to check before choosing a mobile app
YouTube lists PRISM Live Studio, Larix Broadcaster, and Wirecast Go among mobile encoder or production options. Their cited descriptions emphasize mobile capture and production, rather than explicitly documenting continuous playout of a local prerecorded file. Streamlabs’ mobile guide likewise describes camera and gameplay/screen workflows with overlays and widgets, not a confirmed local-file loop. YouTube’s mobile encoder information is useful for identifying listed options, but a listing alone is not proof of a particular playback feature.

- Confirm the app can select a video stored locally on your particular phone, rather than only capture its camera or screen.
- Confirm playback continues after the file ends and restarts without tapping the screen.
- Check whether multiple clips can be queued and whether the playlist repeats.
- Verify that your phone’s operating system and the app version support the needed workflow.
- Test a private or unlisted stream before scheduling a long public broadcast, and keep the device powered and connected during a phone-based stream.
Copyright and channel-policy checks
A video looping successfully does not grant permission to broadcast its contents. Use footage, music, artwork, and other material you own or are authorized to stream, and check the applicable YouTube rules before running a continuous or repeated broadcast. A loop is a playback method, not a guarantee that content complies with copyright requirements or channel monetization policies.

Is OBS Studio available as a mobile app?
No. OBS Project says developing OBS Studio for mobile devices is outside its current scope; mobile streaming apps are separate products.

Does YouTube’s list of mobile encoders guarantee that an app can loop a local video?
No. A YouTube listing identifies an encoder or production option; it does not, by itself, document local prerecorded-file looping.
Can a looped video be streamed if I do not own it?
Only if you have the rights or authorization needed to broadcast it and it complies with YouTube’s rules. Looping does not change those obligations.
