What the Streamlabs Plugin for OBS does
The plugin connects Streamlabs features to OBS Studio. You can add Streamlabs widgets and overlays, manage selected chat and event tools, and configure labels without moving your whole production to Streamlabs Desktop or manually adding every widget as a browser source. It is free to download and use, though some features and designs require Streamlabs Ultra.
Best features to know
Alerts and widgets
Add widgets such as Alert Box, Chat Box, and Event Lists through the Streamlabs menu in OBS. Configure a widget in the browser window that opens, then test alerts through Test Events. In OBS, move the widget source higher in the Sources list if alerts need to appear over gameplay.
Overlays and themes
Browse Streamlabs’ overlay library and add designs to your scene. Streamlabs describes hundreds of overlays and widget themes as free; premium overlays require Ultra. Its guide also reports thousands of professionally designed animated overlays, alerts, and transitions. Those are vendor-reported library counts, not independently verified figures, and the guide’s count may change over time.

Activity Feed and chat docks
The plugin can surface recent events and lets you place Streamlabs Activity Feed and Streamlabs Chat docks inside OBS. Docks can be positioned to fit your layout, keeping these controls available without switching windows.
Cloudbot and moderation
Cloudbot adds chat moderation and engagement tools, including giveaways and minigames. Streamlabs lists filters for caps, emotes, paragraphs, links, symbols, and words. Which controls are useful depends on your chat rules and the platforms connected to your Streamlabs account.

Tipping and Stream Labels
Streamlabs documents tipping setup and Stream Labels within the plugin. To add a label, use Streamlabs > Stream Labels in OBS and choose the label you want. The plugin avoids needing a separate labels program for this workflow.
Reactive Overlays and Game Pulse
The plugin’s product materials identify Reactive Overlays and the Game Pulse Widget as Vision features. Streamlabs says Game Pulse can trigger graphics and sound effects in response to gameplay events. This describes the vendor’s stated capability; it is not an independently tested performance claim.

Multistreaming
Streamlabs says server-side multistreaming through the plugin requires Ultra. Treat multistreaming and premium overlays as subscription features, rather than assuming every feature exposed in the plugin is free.
Requirements and installation
Streamlabs’ quick-start guide, published May 20, 2026 and last updated October 1, 2026, specifies Windows and OBS Studio 28.0.0 or later. The supported operating system and minimum OBS version may change, so check the quick-start guide for the current requirements.

- Download and run the Streamlabs Plugin for OBS installer from Streamlabs.
- Open OBS Studio and complete the Streamlabs onboarding prompts.
- To add a widget, choose Streamlabs > Widgets, select a widget, then choose Add.
- Open the widget’s settings in the browser window to configure it. Use Test Events to check alert behavior.
- Arrange the added source in OBS. Put it above gameplay in the Sources list if it should display on top.
Some changes, including adding an overlay, may require restarting OBS. If an overlay or widget does not appear after adding it, save your scene and restart OBS before troubleshooting further.

Price and feature boundaries
The plugin itself is free to download and use. Streamlabs places server-side multistreaming and premium overlays among Ultra features; its guide also identifies professional animated overlay and theme options as subscription features. Other tools documented for the plugin include tipping, Cloudbot, alerts, widgets, overlays, recent events, Stream Labels, media share, and chat moderation. The available mix is not equivalent to every feature being free: check Streamlabs’ current plan details for subscription requirements and pricing.
Common setup problems
- The installer or plugin does not appear in OBS: confirm you are using Windows and OBS Studio 28.0.0 or later, then check the current Streamlabs requirements. Restart OBS after installing.
- An alert is hidden behind gameplay: select its source and move it higher in the OBS Sources list.
- A widget is present but not configured: reopen its settings from the Streamlabs widget menu; Streamlabs says settings open in a browser window.
- An alert does not trigger: use Test Events to test it, then check that the intended widget source is in the active scene.
- An overlay change is missing: restart OBS, since Streamlabs notes some changes may require a restart.
- You cannot find multistreaming or a premium design: check whether that option is an Ultra feature rather than assuming it is included with the free plugin.
