Then open the public watch page on a separate device to confirm that viewers can load the event and that its video and audio are playing. The first check reports on the stream being sent to YouTube; the second checks the viewer-facing playback.
Check stream health in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and select the active stream’s dashboard.
- Read the Health Indicator at the top of the room. YouTube says the Live Dashboard and Live Control Room check for errors in the stream being sent to YouTube, and the status can include specific error messages and instructions. YouTube’s stream-health guidance explains the indicator.
- If an alert appears, note its timestamp and severity, follow its instructions, and check the indicator again. YouTube classifies red errors as critical: they may prevent an event from starting or cause viewer problems. Yellow errors are moderate and may reduce quality. An unresolved error may continue to appear.
Verify what viewers can see and hear
Open the public stream or watch page separately, preferably on another device. Confirm that the page loads, the picture moves, and audio is present. YouTube recommends checking the event through the channel and watch pages, including on mobile devices, and monitoring audio and video quality. YouTube’s live-streaming tips cover these viewer-facing checks.
Studio status and public playback answer different questions. Studio reports on the incoming stream; the watch page shows whether the event is accessible and playing for a viewer. Neither check guarantees uninterrupted availability later, so for a continuous broadcast check both again periodically.
Interpret viewers and other visible features correctly
Concurrent viewers
Concurrent viewers are the number of people watching at the same time, not a stream-health certificate. YouTube presents stream health separately from real-time analytics. A low or zero audience count alone does not establish that the feed has stopped.

Made for Kids restrictions
Creators must set whether content is made for kids, and YouTube’s instructions include setting a live stream’s audience in Live Control Room. The designation restricts or disables features including live chat and notifications. Their absence is expected for some Made for Kids streams; it does not show that the video signal has failed. YouTube’s Made for Kids guidance describes these feature restrictions.
Use post-stream analytics only for after-the-fact review
Live Control Room offers real-time analytics, including concurrent viewers and duration, alongside stream health. YouTube Analytics data is processed and despammed based on video ID, so it can differ from Live Control Room figures. Use post-stream reports to review performance, not as the main way to determine whether a feed is playing right now. YouTube’s live analytics help explains the available metrics.

For streams using horizontal and vertical formats, YouTube combines metrics in Live Control Room during and after the stream. Metrics for only the vertical stream become available after 24 hours; that reporting delay is separate from the current Health Indicator.
What a 24/7 check can—and cannot—tell you
YouTube’s published guidance describes checking live stream health and monitoring playback, but it does not document a separate status procedure or an uninterrupted-operation guarantee specifically for 24/7 streams. A healthy indicator describes the current status; it is not a promise that the event will remain available continuously. Check the Studio indicator and viewer-facing page rather than relying on either one alone.
