The N6 Deck has a reviewer-reported Switch 2 comfort test; the Hyperion 3 is described as an ergonomic, magnetic-attachment option. Neither has been established here as a measured overall winner, so check current compatibility and availability before buying.
What counts as a handheld controller for Switch 2?
A controller that attaches to the console is different from a wireless gamepad. Nintendo defines handheld mode as holding the Switch 2 with Joy-Con 2 connected to the console. A Bluetooth controller can be useful for tabletop or TV play, but it does not by itself replace the attached controls while you hold the system. See Nintendo’s Play Mode Options on Nintendo Switch 2.
That distinction matters when comparing products: look for physical attachment and confirmation that the specific model works with Switch 2, not merely a claim that it is a controller for Nintendo Switch.

| Abxylute N6 Deck | Creative Bloq’s reviewer reported finding it comfortable during several weeks of beta testing with Switch 2. The same account says vibration could feel intense and could be adjusted using button commands. | The roundup reports Switch 2 use and programmable rear buttons. This is editorial experience, not a controlled comparison or independent compatibility certification. Mouse input support is not stated in the cited coverage. | Readers prioritizing a reviewer-reported comfortable grip and rear buttons. |
| NYXI Hyperion 3 | Tom’s Guide describes an ergonomic design and magnetic attachment. | Coverage lists larger buttons, swappable D-pads, programmable rear buttons, and Hall-effect sticks. | HORI Split Pad Pro | Its manual describes an accessory that attaches to a Nintendo Switch for handheld-only play. | The manual does not certify Switch 2 compatibility. Abxylute N6 Deck: the clearest comfort lead
Creative Bloq’s May 1, 2026 roundup says its writer beta-tested the N6 Deck with Switch 2 for several weeks and found it comfortable for long sessions. The writer also reports programmable rear buttons and says vibration could be intense but adjustable through button commands. Those are the reviewer’s observations, not results from a controlled head-to-head test. The roundup links to Abxylute; it does not establish current stock, price, or an independent compatibility certification. Read the Creative Bloq Joy-Con alternatives roundup.

NYXI Hyperion 3: magnetic attachment, but no mouse input
Tom’s Guide describes the Hyperion 3 as ergonomic and magnetically attaching to Switch 2, with larger buttons, swappable D-pads, programmable rear buttons, and Hall-effect sticks. Its coverage also says it lacks the optical sensor needed for Joy-Con 2-style mouse controls. If mouse input matters for a game you play, that is a decisive limitation. See Tom’s Guide’s Hyperion 3 coverage.
The article’s preorder timing and prices were tied to a January 2026 preorder deadline and a planned March 1, 2026 first shipment. Those dates have passed and do not establish current retail availability or pricing; check the seller for the present situation.

Can original Switch controllers or older accessories work?
Original Joy-Con
Nintendo says original Switch Joy-Con can pair wirelessly with Switch 2 but cannot attach to it. They therefore do not provide the attached handheld control setup described for handheld mode. Nintendo also says they need a Switch console or compatible accessory for charging. Check the specific game’s controller requirements and Nintendo’s Switch 2 compatibility information.
Original Switch Pro Controller
Nintendo lists the original Switch Pro Controller as compatible wirelessly. That makes it a possible controller for supported tabletop or TV play, not a replacement that attaches to the console for handheld play.

HORI Split Pad Pro
The HORI manual describes the Split Pad Pro as attaching to a Nintendo Switch for handheld-only use. It says it cannot be used in TV or tabletop mode or as a wireless controller, and lists gyroscope, motion IR camera, accelerometer, player LED, HD Rumble, HOME Button Notification LED, and NFC as unsupported. The manual does not verify Switch 2 compatibility, so do not assume the older model fits or works with Switch 2. Consult the HORI Split Pad Pro manual and confirm compatibility for the exact product before purchase.

How to choose for your setup
- For an attached grip: prioritize explicit Switch 2 compatibility and physical attachment. The N6 Deck and Hyperion 3 have editorial coverage describing Switch 2 use or attachment, but neither source establishes a controlled comparison.
- For longer sessions: the N6 Deck has the clearest cited comfort report: one Creative Bloq reviewer said it was comfortable after several weeks of beta testing. Treat that as one reviewer’s experience rather than a guarantee for every hand size.
- For mouse-control games: avoid assuming a third-party alternative supports the Joy-Con 2 optical mouse feature. Tom’s Guide specifically reports that the Hyperion 3 lacks an optical sensor.
- For rear-button or stick features: both named alternatives are reported to offer programmable rear buttons; Hall-effect sticks and swappable D-pads are reported for the Hyperion 3.
- For a wireless gamepad: distinguish tabletop or TV play from handheld-attached play. A remotely paired controller does not become an attached handheld controller simply because it pairs with the console.
- For legacy accessories: verify the exact model on Nintendo’s compatibility information and check the game’s requirements. Compatibility of one older accessory does not establish compatibility for another.
What to verify before buying
- Confirm that the exact product listing names Nintendo Switch 2 compatibility, rather than only Nintendo Switch compatibility.
- Check how the controller attaches and whether it is intended for handheld use while the console is held.
- Compare the features you actually need, especially mouse input, rear buttons, stick type, and D-pad options.
- Check current regional stock, price, return terms, and charging arrangements with the seller or manufacturer. Current prices and inventory were not established in the cited coverage.
