For a new 24/7 YouTube stream aimed at viewers in India, try launching between 6:30 and 7:00 p.m. IST. That gives you a short lead-in to the India-wide YouTube prime-time window of 7–10 p.m., reported by EY and FICCI in 2025. It is a sensible first test, not a guaranteed best time: a continuous stream stays available after launch, and your channel’s own audience data is a better guide than a national average.
Why start around 6:30–7 p.m. IST?
EY and FICCI’s 2025 report identifies 7–10 p.m. as prime time on YouTube in India by concurrent viewers. Starting shortly beforehand is a practical way to have the stream live as that window begins. The report does not establish 6:30 p.m. as an independently measured optimum, nor does the national window prove that a particular niche, language, or channel will perform best then.
For a 24/7 stream, start time is principally a launch, announcement, and first-audience decision—not a limit on when viewers can watch. The stream remains available outside the evening period. If you can promote the launch or have someone available to welcome and moderate viewers, align that activity with the period you are testing.
Use your channel’s audience data to choose a better time
In YouTube Studio, open Analytics → Audience and look for “When your viewers are on YouTube.” YouTube says this report shows when your viewers are online across YouTube over the last 28 days and can help you plan a live stream. Treat it as a recent pattern, not a permanent timetable; check your top geographies too, especially if a meaningful share of your audience is outside India.

If the report is unavailable because your channel has too little audience data, begin with a launch in the 7–10 p.m. IST period, then gather your own results. Do not interpret missing data as evidence that one particular hour is best.
How to test launch times fairly
- Choose comparable slots. Include an evening launch based on the India-wide reference, then test other times that fit your audience report and your ability to promote or moderate.
- Repeat the comparison. Compare several equivalent launches or promotional pushes by day and time. Keep the content, title and thumbnail, and announcement effort as consistent as practical. This is a useful testing method, not a published YouTube experiment.
- Review live-stream measures. In YouTube Analytics, compare concurrent viewers, average concurrent viewers, peak concurrent viewers, average view duration, and total watch time. A large initial audience is not the only useful outcome: watch duration and total watch time help show whether viewers stayed.
- Adjust to what the results show. If a different slot repeatedly fits your viewers better, use it for your next launch or promotion. Recheck the Audience report over time rather than treating one 28-day view as an enduring rule.
What can change the right slot for your stream?
- Audience geography: India-wide viewing patterns are a starting reference. A channel with substantial viewers elsewhere should consider their local activity as well.
- Day of week: Compare the same kinds of days where possible; the available India-wide figure does not establish a best weekday.
- Niche and format: The cited prime-time window is broad, not a measured ideal for a specific game, language, or stream format.
- Promotion and moderation: Pick a launch period when you can announce the stream and, if relevant, be present for chat. That can make a launch more useful even if the stream itself runs continuously.
- Performance beyond the opening: Use concurrent viewers alongside average view duration and total watch time, rather than judging the choice from launch views alone.
