ZERO: forms belong to specific character versions, cost skill points, and can change a fighter’s stats or combat options. The useful choice is the strongest form your selected version can reach in the mode you are playing—not simply the most powerful-sounding form in the series.
How do you transform in Sparking Zero?
In standard battle controls, hold Up on the D-pad to open the transformation choices, then select an available form. Pro Game Guides describes this input for its October 9, 2024 walkthrough; button mappings can differ by platform or control preset, so check the in-game controller settings if the menu does not appear. Transformations consume skill points, and higher forms may require more points. Some characters advance through their available forms rather than jumping straight to the final one.

Before spending points, check the match’s current resources and the transformations shown for that specific fighter. A form that is not on the character’s list is not an unlock you can select with extra points.
What makes one transformation better than another?
Judge forms within the same character progression and in the mode you actually play. A transformation can affect stats and attacks, but the sources do not establish a universal damage ranking or a current competitive tier list. Bandai Namco’s beginner guide says stats can be influenced by customization, transformation, or current state, such as form or fusion. It describes the metrics this way:

- Combo: combo damage.
- Ki: Ki blast strength and/or charge speed.
- Attack: smash and hand-to-hand power.
These measures help explain what to compare, but they do not by themselves prove that one form wins more often or is best for every player. For a practical choice, compare the form’s listed stats and moves with the options available to your fighter, then account for the match rules and your own approach to close-range combat, blasts, and resource use. The official beginner’s guide also notes that outfits can be cosmetic or sometimes change a moveset, accessories are character-specific, and ability items can enhance stats; these customization effects are separate from choosing a transformation.
Which Goku can turn Super Saiyan Blue?
Transformation access depends on the character version and its place in the Dragon Ball timeline. For example, Goku (Z-Mid) cannot become Super Saiyan Blue because that form belongs to a later era. Check the specific version in the in-game roster or the official character page rather than assuming that every Goku shares the same forms. The roster is broad: Bandai Namco reported 182 playable characters as of December 31, 2024, but that dated figure is not a current 2026 total.

Is every power-up a transformation?
No. A selectable transformation and a skill that temporarily boosts a fighter are different mechanics. Pro Game Guides’ October 2024 walkthrough describes Kaio-ken for Goku (Z-Early) and Super Saiyan Blue Goku as a skill, and Vegeta’s Super Saiyan Blue Evolved as a temporary buff skill—not separate transformation characters to select from the transformation menu. Read the character’s available actions as well as its form progression so you know whether you are choosing a form or activating a skill.
Why can’t I transform in Episode Battle?
Some Episode Battles restrict the transformation menu or script form changes as part of the story. In the walkthrough’s example, Goku’s progression against Majin Buu is tied to the opponent’s health. That is a specific battle example, not a rule for every Episode Battle. If the transformation menu is unavailable, the fight may be controlling progression through its scenario rather than offering the standard battle choice.

How to pick the best form for your fighter
- Confirm the character version. Select the exact fighter variant you intend to use; forms from a later era may not be available to an earlier version.
- Check the mode. In a standard battle, the transformation menu may offer a player-selected form. In some Episode Battles, a story event can restrict or trigger progression.
- Check the cost and path. Open the menu using your configured control, review the skill-point requirement, and see whether the fighter must progress through earlier forms.
- Compare what changes. Review the form’s listed stats and attacks, then choose based on the combat options you want—not on a series-wide power ranking.
- Use current fighter information. The complete current form-by-form roster and balance rankings are not established here; verify a particular fighter in-game or on Bandai Namco’s character page.
