Start with an MP4 file containing H.264/AVC video and AAC audio, then test it in CameraFi Live on the phone you plan to use. That combination is a practical first export, not a format CameraFi officially certifies. CameraFi’s public guides confirm that the app can add video files and broadcast prerecorded video, but they do not specify supported containers, codecs, resolution limits, or file-size limits.
What format does CameraFi Live support?
CameraFi Live documents adding video files as sources and using its overlay or Picture-in-Picture feature to broadcast prerecorded video. However, the CameraFi materials cited below do not publish an input-format compatibility list. They do not confirm that MP4, H.264, or AAC is required or guaranteed to work.
CameraFi’s Android beginner guide describes adding video files from the app’s swipe menu, and an older beginner guide also describes video files and Picture-in-Picture. Its FAQ says the overlay feature can broadcast prerecorded video. The audio-sync manual refers to a recorded video source called “VIDEO3,” but does not identify accepted audio codecs. CameraFi FAQ, CameraFi product page
CameraFi’s list of destinations—including YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, OBS Studio, RTMP, and SRT—describes where a broadcast can go, not which formats imported video files can use. Do not treat a destination list as an input-codec specification.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
A sensible first export to test
Use an MP4 container with H.264/AVC video and AAC audio for your first short test clip. This is a conservative workflow recommendation, not a CameraFi-published requirement or a tested guarantee. Keep the first test manageable and verify that the app plays both picture and sound before preparing a long broadcast.
How to test a prerecorded video in CameraFi Live
- Export a short sample. Choose MP4 as the container, H.264/AVC for video, and AAC for audio. The sources reviewed do not establish a maximum resolution, frame rate, bitrate, or file size, so no particular limit can be promised.
- Open the video-source or overlay controls. CameraFi’s Android guide describes using the swipe menu to add video files. The exact labels and placement may vary by release; follow the current app interface rather than assuming older screenshots match your version. CameraFi Android beginner guide
- Import the sample and check playback. Confirm that the picture appears and that audio is audible. If you intend to use Picture-in-Picture, verify that presentation in a short test before going live with the full program. CameraFi documents prerecorded video and Picture-in-Picture, but not a complete codec compatibility matrix. CameraFi beginner guide
- Check synchronization. If the sound and picture drift apart, look for the app’s audio-sync adjustment. CameraFi’s manual says its adjustment also applies to audio in the recorded video source called VIDEO3. The manual dates from 2020, so confirm the control exists in your installed release. CameraFi audio-sync manual
- Only then prepare the full stream. A sample test can reveal import, audio, or playback problems early. It does not establish that every resolution, frame rate, or long-duration file will behave the same way.
If the video will not import or play correctly
- Import fails: Re-export the file as MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio, then try importing the new file. Renaming a file extension does not convert its contents; use an actual export or conversion process.
- Picture appears but audio is missing: Check that the exported file contains an audio track, then export a fresh sample with AAC audio and test again. CameraFi’s public material reviewed here does not specify accepted audio codecs.
- Audio is out of sync: Try the audio-sync control if it is available in your version. The 2020 manual says the adjustment applies to the VIDEO3 recorded-video source; it does not provide a universal setting for every file or device.
- A short sample works but a larger file does not: Try a shorter test and re-export the problem file. The CameraFi materials cited here do not state a file-size or resolution ceiling, so an exact threshold cannot be inferred.
- Playback differs across phones or app versions: Treat compatibility as something to verify on the device and release you will use. CameraFi’s guides establish that video files can be added, not that every encoded file or device is supported.
Copyright and prerecorded-video disclosure
Use video you own or have permission to broadcast. CameraFi’s FAQ warns that streaming someone else’s content can create copyright problems. It also says its Facebook guidance requires prerecorded material to be clearly labeled as prerecorded. Check the current rules of the destination platform before broadcasting, because platform policies can change. CameraFi FAQ
