To use Larix Broadcaster with an RTMP relay for YouTube Live, configure two separate publishing connections: Larix sends your phone’s camera feed to the relay using the relay’s ingest URL and credential; the relay then sends that feed to YouTube using the YouTube ingest URL and stream key. Keep the two credential sets separate, use YouTube’s RTMPS destination when available, and test the entire path before going live.
Understand the two-part stream path
The relay is an intermediate destination, not a replacement for YouTube’s ingest settings. Your setup has two independent legs:
- Larix → relay: Enter the relay administrator’s ingest endpoint and the credential assigned for incoming streams.
- Relay → YouTube: Configure the relay’s output with the YouTube ingest URL and stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room.
Do not enter YouTube’s stream key in Larix unless the relay administrator explicitly configured that value as the relay’s own ingest credential. Relay setup details—including configuration syntax, ports, authentication, and where TLS terminates—depend on the relay software or service. This guide does not assume a particular server implementation.
Set up Larix to publish to the relay
- Get the relay’s connection details. Ask the relay administrator for the protocol (RTMP or RTMPS), hostname, port if required, application path, and ingest stream name or key. Confirm whether the connection requires separate URL and stream-name fields or one complete URL.
- Add a connection in Larix Broadcaster. Open Larix Broadcaster’s Connections settings and create a new publishing connection. Enter the relay-provided details in the matching fields. Softvelum describes a connection URL as a protocol prefix, server or domain, optional port, application name, and stream name or key; some encoders accept these separately, while others expect one full URL. See Softvelum’s Larix documentation.
- Match the relay’s protocol and format. Use RTMP or RTMPS exactly as advertised by the relay, and preserve its hostname, port, application path, and key format. Larix supports RTMP and RTMPS publishing; RTMPS is SSL-enabled RTMP. Capabilities may vary by device and Larix build. Softvelum’s mobile app documentation describes Larix support, including HEVC transmission over Enhanced RTMP as a premium feature on supported devices.
- Save the connection and test it. Start a short test and confirm that the relay reports an incoming stream before configuring or testing the YouTube output.
If the relay administrator supplies a base application URL plus a stream name, combine them only if Larix’s selected field expects a complete URL. Any example URL or key in product documentation is illustrative; use the actual values supplied for your relay.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Configure the relay to send the stream to YouTube
- Open the stream’s settings in YouTube Live Control Room. Find the Stream URL field and reveal the RTMPS URL using the lock icon when available. YouTube’s help documentation recommends RTMPS, a secure extension to RTMP: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
- Copy the destination URL and stream key into the relay’s output. Use the values for the intended YouTube stream. YouTube may display an RTMP URL by default, so explicitly select or reveal RTMPS when you want encrypted ingest. The YouTube API distinguishes primary and backup ingest addresses; use the address that corresponds to the stream and protocol selected in Control Room. See YouTube’s liveStreams API documentation.
- Save the relay output and verify forwarding. Start the Larix-to-relay feed, then check that the relay is forwarding it and that the stream appears in YouTube Live Control Room.
The relay now handles two different credential sets: the relay’s inbound credential for Larix, and the outbound YouTube stream key. Restrict access to the YouTube key and rotate it through YouTube if it is exposed. How credentials are stored and protected depends on the relay product; check that product’s own documentation.
Choose compatible video, audio, and network settings
There is no single correct bitrate for every phone and stream. YouTube’s encoder guidance varies recommended video bitrate by codec, resolution, and frame rate. Select the matching row in YouTube’s current encoder settings table rather than applying one bitrate to every output.

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Protocol and codecs: YouTube accepts RTMP/RTMPS ingest and lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, with AAC or MP3 audio options. Larix support depends on the phone and app build. Softvelum describes H.264/AVC and AAC support, and identifies HEVC transmission over Enhanced RTMP as a premium feature on supported devices. Use a format actually available in your Larix version and compatible with the relay.
- Frame rate: YouTube’s guidance supports frame rates up to 60 fps. Choose a frame rate the phone can sustain and match it to the relevant YouTube bitrate recommendation.
- Bitrate: YouTube recommends constant bitrate encoding. Keep the selected target within both YouTube’s recommended range for the chosen codec, resolution, and frame rate and the phone’s stable upload capacity. Larix uses the selected target bitrate; poor network conditions can cause frame loss, and Larix offers adaptive bitrate options. See Softvelum’s Larix FAQ.
- Keyframes: YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Set this if your Larix build exposes the option.
- Audio: Confirm that the phone feed includes audio and that the relay forwards it. For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio.
- Upload capacity: Test the phone’s upload connection under conditions like those expected during the broadcast. A bitrate that works on a strong Wi-Fi connection may not be stable on mobile data or at a crowded venue.
Run a full-path preflight
- Start a test from Larix using the relay ingest connection.
- Confirm the relay receives the incoming stream and forwards it to the configured YouTube destination.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room for a picture, audio, stream status, and health warnings.
- Include representative movement and sound in the test; a static image or silence may not reveal problems that appear during the real broadcast.
- Repeat the test on the network and with the equipment you expect to use for the event.
YouTube recommends testing before the broadcast and monitoring stream health. Its API documentation describes health status and configuration issues, including a noAudioStream status when audio is absent. YouTube Live Streams API
Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | What to check | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Larix cannot connect to the relay | Relay hostname, port, protocol, application path, and inbound key; whether the phone can reach the host on its current network. | Re-enter the exact relay-provided values and confirm the relay is listening for the selected protocol. In some local-network setups that publish across WAN/LAN boundaries, router NAT or port forwarding may be needed; it is not a universal requirement. Softvelum’s FAQ |
| RTMPS or SSL error | Whether the destination URL is the RTMPS URL from YouTube’s Stream URL field and uses the actual Control Room hostname and path. | Use the RTMPS destination rather than an RTMP URL. YouTube notes that specifying port 443 can help with some SSL errors if the URL and encoder allow it; do not replace the actual host or path with an example. YouTube Help |
| The relay receives video, but YouTube does not | The relay’s outbound YouTube URL and key, separately from Larix’s relay-ingest credential; YouTube stream status and health. | Correct the relay output values, then inspect YouTube warnings for codec, bitrate, audio, keyframe, or stream-starvation issues. YouTube API |
| Video appears without audio | Whether the phone feed contains audio and whether the relay forwards it. | Enable or restore the audio source and use an audio format supported by the encoder and destination. YouTube identifies missing audio as a stream configuration issue and lists AAC or MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS. YouTube encoder guidance |
| Mobile video stutters or drops frames | Actual upload stability, selected target bitrate, and whether output settings exceed what the phone or network can sustain. | Lower bitrate or output quality, or use Larix’s supported adaptive bitrate option where appropriate. Retest under event-like network conditions. Softvelum’s Larix FAQ |
