If you are watching a 24/7 YouTube stream on a limited connection in India, start at 360p. If it buffers or saving data matters more than detail, switch to 240p. Keep the clearest setting that plays smoothly on your device and connection. If you mean broadcasting a stream, the answer is different: check your upload speed and encoder settings, not your playback resolution.
First, are you watching or broadcasting?
“Streaming” can mean receiving a video as a viewer or sending a live feed as a broadcaster. The resolution control in YouTube’s player affects the viewer’s playback. A broadcaster instead chooses an encoded output that YouTube can ingest reliably over the available outbound connection.
- Watching: choose a lower playback resolution to trade picture detail for a better chance of smooth playback and lower data use.
- Broadcasting: match the encoder’s resolution, frame rate, codec and bitrate to sustained upload capacity, with headroom for fluctuations and other network use.
Best resolution for watching on limited internet
Start at 360p
Try 360p first as a practical balance between readability and connection demands. YouTube’s guidance for slow connections names both 360p and 240p as lower-quality options; it does not prescribe one universal best setting. In a 16:9 picture, 360p is 640×360 pixels.
Drop to 240p if playback is unstable
If the video keeps buffering, or data conservation is the priority, try 240p. It has less visual detail but may be easier to play on a constrained or inconsistent connection. Its 16:9 dimensions are 426×240 pixels. These are playback resolutions, not a guarantee that a particular mobile network or broadband line will handle a continuous stream without interruptions.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Open the YouTube player’s settings and select Quality.
- Choose 360p and watch long enough to judge whether playback stays smooth.
- If it buffers, choose 240p. If 360p is stable and the extra detail is useful on your screen, keep it.
Screen size and content matter: fine text, gameplay interfaces and small details are harder to see at 240p. Test on the device you will actually use rather than choosing a setting from the resolution number alone. YouTube’s slow-connection guidance is at Choose video quality; the pixel dimensions are listed in its recommended resolution and aspect ratios.
Which resolution uses less data, and how much data does a 24/7 stream use?
Lower playback quality generally uses less data than higher quality, but YouTube’s cited slow-connection guidance does not give a data-rate table for 240p or 360p. Actual use depends on the video and playback conditions, so there is no supported precise monthly total for a 24/7 viewer here.

YouTube’s filming tips say a mobile live stream uses about 10 MB per minute. That is a rough, general filming tip—not a resolution-specific measurement or a reliable estimate of how much data a viewer will use. Do not multiply it into a 24/7 viewing bill or treat it as a 240p or 360p rate. Check your provider’s usage meter while watching if you need an estimate for your own connection.
If you are broadcasting a 24/7 stream
A viewer’s 360p recommendation does not tell a broadcaster what to send to YouTube. For a computer-based stream, YouTube recommends testing upload speed and setup, using a quality the connection can sustain, and leaving bandwidth headroom. Its guidance recommends an Ethernet connection for computer live streaming and notes that upload bandwidth can be lower than download bandwidth. Shared network use can also reduce the capacity available to your stream.

Check the connection and account for headroom
- Where practical, connect the streaming computer to the router by Ethernet. A cable can avoid some local wireless instability, but it cannot increase your internet plan’s bandwidth.
- Run an upload speed test at the location and time you intend to stream. Consider other people and devices using the same connection.
- Leave about 20% bandwidth headroom, as YouTube recommends, rather than setting the stream bitrate equal to the speed-test result.
- If using mobile internet, test at the actual streaming location and check signal quality. An advertised download speed alone does not establish sustained upload performance.
Choose encoder settings, then test
YouTube’s encoder table lists, for H.264 at 360p30, a minimum bitrate of 0.4 Mbps and a recommended bitrate of 4 Mbps. These are YouTube ingest recommendations for that codec and format, not a guarantee that a connection with the same nominal speed will carry a continuous 24/7 stream reliably. Other resolutions, frame rates and codecs have different settings; use the current table rather than extrapolating from the 360p30 row.
- Set the encoder’s resolution, frame rate, codec and bitrate to a combination shown in YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions.
- Test with audio and movement similar to the planned stream. A quiet static test may not represent the actual feed.
- Check YouTube’s stream health during the test and adjust to a more reliable quality if problems appear.
For a continuous broadcast, sustained upload stability matters as much as the nominal bitrate. These recommendations are platform guidance, not measurements of Indian mobile or broadband networks. YouTube’s encoder settings, filming tips and streaming tips explain setup and connection considerations.

Troubleshooting: buffering or an unstable broadcast
A viewer’s video keeps buffering
- Try a lower quality: move from 360p to 240p in the player’s Quality menu.
- Check the actual connection: congestion, weak mobile signal or other users on the network can affect playback even when a speed test looked good earlier.
- Test another device or location: this can help distinguish a connection issue from a device-specific problem.
A broadcast drops frames or loses stream health
- Check upload, not only download: rerun the test and leave the recommended headroom.
- Reduce the encoder load: select a lower, reliable setting from YouTube’s table if the connection cannot sustain the current output.
- Reduce local network competition: pause large uploads or downloads and account for shared household use.
- Use Ethernet where possible: it may improve the computer-to-router link, though it will not fix limited ISP capacity or a data cap.
- Retest with representative content: include the expected motion and audio, then monitor stream health before relying on the setup continuously.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you are broadcasting pre-recorded video as a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo can loop uploaded videos from the cloud: upload the recording or make a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the file as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot regardless of quality; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded video sent to YouTube, not a live camera feed. See StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
