Square Enix describes Moonlight as a system that lets each party member equip up to two vocations and access abilities and perks from both. The official PlayStation description notes that vocations can provide attacks as well as support abilities. In a PlayStation Blog interview, producer Takeshi Ichikawa said, “Further into the game, you unlock the ability to ‘Moonlight’ two Vocations.” He also explained that vocation perks activate when a character gets worked up, and that Moonlight allows two perks to be equipped at once. - Start with the party job: Decide whether the character should deal damage, heal, support allies, or provide a flexible backup.
- Give the second vocation a purpose: Choose it to add useful abilities or a second perk, rather than pairing vocations simply because both sound powerful.
- Adjust for the fight and roster: If another party member already supplies healing, a damage-focused setup may make more sense. For a difficult encounter, keep enough recovery and support available.
The official descriptions establish how the system works, but do not rank every character’s optimal pairing. Character-specific pages from Game8 offer recommendations for Maribel, Ruff, Aishe, and Sir Mervyn; treat those as guide advice, not confirmed developer findings. If the party lacks recovery, favor a vocation combination that gives the protagonist some support capacity instead. This adaptable approach is a practical recommendation, not an official character-specific build. Avoid assuming that a vocation unlock or ability from an earlier version works the same way here.
Maribel: damage magic or a mixed role
Game8 has a character-specific build page for Maribel, but the available evidence does not establish a single pairing as the best or confirm every ability and unlock detail. Decide whether you want her focused on magical damage or to provide some additional support, then use the second vocation to complement that job. A damage-focused setup gives up some flexibility; a mixed setup may help cover more needs but should not be treated as a substitute for dedicated recovery if your party requires it.

Ruff: offensive pressure with optional utility
Game8 also publishes a Ruff build guide. A useful starting role is an offensive one, with the second vocation chosen to add utility if your party needs it. If the rest of your roster already handles support, lean toward damage instead. The available sources do not confirm a Reimagined-specific speed ranking or exact skill effects, so do not treat speed or a particular vocation pairing as proven advantages without checking the game.
Aishe: choose support, hybrid, or damage to fit the roster
Aishe has a character-specific Game8 build page, but the cited material does not verify a definitive pairing. First decide whether she should add support, provide a hybrid role, or contribute more damage. Use the second vocation to reinforce that choice or cover a party gap. If you already have dependable healing and support, leaning toward damage is a reasonable party-building choice; it is not evidence of a universal best build.

Sir Mervyn: support or balanced backup
Game8 publishes a Sir Mervyn build page, but the evidence here does not establish exact access timing, a best pairing, or a full list of his role-specific abilities in Reimagined. If your party needs more healing or support, make that the priority when choosing his vocations. If those jobs are already covered, a more balanced setup can leave him available for another role. Check when he joins and what is unlocked at that point before planning long-term vocation investment around him.
Kiefer and other roster changes: invest around availability
Do not assume that Kiefer or another character will remain available for a particular stretch of the story, or that an older DQ7 progression guide applies unchanged.
