The simplest way to keep prerecorded music live on YouTube without OBS is to use a cloud streaming service: upload your videos or make a playlist, connect your YouTube stream key, and let the service send the broadcast. StreamNeo is one option for that workflow; a different desktop encoder or dedicated hardware can also work, but those require a local setup that stays online.
Choose how the stream will run
| Approach | Best fit | What to account for |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo cloud service | Creators who want prerecorded videos to loop on YouTube without leaving a computer running. | StreamNeo is #1 for this use case: it runs continuously from the cloud, streams uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. |
| Another desktop encoder | Creators who want direct control over the broadcast and can keep a computer, internet connection, and encoder process running. | YouTube supports encoder software generally. The particular software, its playlist and recovery behavior, and its costs need to be checked with its provider. |
| Hardware encoder | Broadcast workflows where dedicated encoding equipment is preferred. | YouTube recognizes hardware encoders, but dedicated equipment is not necessary just to avoid OBS. |
| Managed cloud broadcast processing | Advanced production workflows that need hosted media processing. | YouTube lists AWS Elemental MediaLive as broadcast-grade processing. Confirm its complexity, costs, and fit for a simple music playlist independently. |
YouTube’s verified-encoder directory also describes Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streams of prerecorded video. YouTube says listed verified products are made by third parties; inclusion is not a YouTube guarantee of performance. Check any provider’s current playlist behavior, interruption recovery, audio continuity, monitoring, supported settings, storage, pricing, and terms before committing.
Set up a YouTube encoder stream
- Enable live streaming. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do this before your planned launch.
- Create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and open its Live Control Room. For an encoder workflow, YouTube provides a server URL and stream key.
- Connect your encoder. Enter the YouTube server URL and stream key in the chosen encoder or cloud service. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your channel. Use RTMPS where supported.
- Set and verify stream quality. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Choose a bitrate appropriate to your resolution, frame rate, and codec; YouTube’s recommendations vary with those settings, so use its current encoder settings guidance rather than guessing one bitrate for every stream.
- Test before going live. Use representative audio and moving video, check the Live Control Room preview, and confirm the watch page works on the channel and on a mobile device. Listen for gaps, distortion, or unexpected silence as well as checking the picture.
- Start the broadcast and monitor it. YouTube recommends continuous audio and video monitoring. Confirm the stream remains reachable and that the playlist advances as intended; a scheduled stream or a connected encoder by itself does not prove the whole broadcast is healthy.
Keep a local setup reliable
If you use a desktop encoder rather than a cloud service, the computer, power, internet connection, and encoder process all become part of the stream’s continuity. Test how your chosen software behaves after a dropped connection, a computer restart, or an interrupted playlist; restart and recovery behavior depends on the software and setup.
- Allow upload headroom: YouTube recommends upload bandwidth with 20% capacity above the combined primary and backup bitrate.
- Check the actual route: Run a representative test from the location and connection you intend to use. A speed result alone does not establish that an uninterrupted live stream will work.
- Plan for recovery: Decide who or what will notice a failed encoder or connection and how it will be restarted. Do not treat a 24/7 goal as proof of uninterrupted delivery.
- Plan for an archive separately: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a single continuous broadcast lasting 12 hours or more will be preserved as one complete automatic replay.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is for prerecorded videos streamed to YouTube, not camera-based broadcasts or streams to other platforms. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home; each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price regardless of quality. It includes automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.

Clear music rights before you stream
An encoder or cloud service only carries the material you provide; it does not grant permission to broadcast it. Check the rights and license terms for both the sound recording (master) and the underlying composition, including the territories where the stream will be available. Rights for a recording do not automatically establish rights for every composition, visual, or territory.

YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams. Its channel monetization policy says: “Be your original creation. If you borrow content from someone else, you need to change it significantly to make it your own.” YouTube reviews originality and reused content, including content it considers repetitive, generic, or mass-produced. A license may address permission to use music, but it does not by itself guarantee monetization or a particular outcome under YouTube’s channel policies. That outcome depends on the catalog, license, and channel.
Understand ads and revenue expectations
Continuous streaming does not guarantee ad delivery or revenue. YouTube documents automatic, scheduled, and manual mid-roll approaches for eligible monetized live streams, and says ad slots are not guaranteed. In January 2024, YouTube reported that channels using automatic live mid-rolls saw an average uplift of over 20% in instream ad revenue per hour compared with channels not using them, across 207 countries. This is a historical average, not a forecast or guarantee for an individual channel.

Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely checks and fixes |
|---|---|
| You cannot start a live stream. | Check that live streaming is enabled, the channel is verified, and there is no live-stream restriction from the previous 90 days. If enabling it for the first time, allow up to 24 hours. |
| The encoder does not connect to YouTube. | Confirm you copied the current server URL and stream key from the correct YouTube Studio event, entered them in the right fields, and selected RTMPS if supported. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder. |
| The preview buffers or the stream drops. | Check actual upload stability and available bandwidth against the primary and backup bitrate, leaving YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Reduce settings if the connection cannot sustain them, then retest. |
| Audio has gaps or the playlist stops advancing. | Test representative files and playlist transitions before launch. Check the source files and the encoder or service’s playback and recovery controls; behavior varies by provider. |
| The broadcast is missing or incomplete in archives. | Check its duration. YouTube’s automatic archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours; arrange a separate recording or archive plan for longer broadcasts. |
| Music triggers a rights claim or monetization review. | Review the claim details and the actual master and composition licenses for the relevant territories. A streaming tool cannot resolve a rights dispute or guarantee monetization eligibility. |
Cost and setup trade-offs
A local encoder may avoid a dedicated streaming-service fee, but it depends on a computer and connection remaining available and may require someone to recover it after a failure. Cloud services reduce that local operating burden, but their storage, playlist controls, recovery behavior, supported formats, monitoring, and recurring price differ. Compare the total cost and operating responsibility for the complete setup, not just the encoder’s headline price. No physical accessory is inherently required to run a prerecorded YouTube music stream.
