What works against a Skulker
The Skulker is a small, four-wheeled ARC turret associated with Frozen Trail content on Pendola Pass. Its size and mobility make it dangerous when it disappears around terrain, but it is much easier to manage when you keep a clear sightline and force it to expose itself. The reliable sequence is to find it, take hard cover, disable its legs or wheel assemblies, and then place precision shots into the body. Do not make the fight a chase. Pursuing a Skulker around a corner removes your information advantage and gives it time to reposition or ambush you. Reacquire visual contact from cover before moving.

Which weapon should you choose?
Anvil

Renegade
The Renegade is another practical precision choice for the same sequence. Treat it as a weak-point weapon, not as a reason to stand in the open and trade damage. Fire from cover, pause long enough to confirm the hit on the mobility assembly, and only shift your aim to the body after the Skulker can no longer move as freely.
Osprey
The Osprey rounds out the recommended precision options. Its job in this encounter is identical: make the legs or wheels the first target, then punish the exposed body. Whichever of the three precision weapons you already own and can supply reliably is generally the sensible pick; the available sources do not establish a winner through published damage, time-to-kill, or ammunition tests.
Ferro
The Ferro is the practical choice when you want a cheaper ARC option with high armour penetration. PC Gamer reported in 2025 that crafting one at the Gunsmith requires five metal parts and two rubber parts. The same report lists an 8 kg early-game weight and describes a one-shot-per-reload firing pattern.

How to locate and recognize the target
Context on Pendola Pass
The Skulker appears as a Frozen Trail enemy on Pendola Pass. The Tracks of the Beast walkthrough describes Skulkers as small and sneaky, which explains why visual scanning alone can fail in broken terrain. The same objective context includes an optional task to destroy three Skulkers and extract a Skulker Targeter.
Use the audio warning
Listen for the Skulker’s distinctive “beep-beep” sound while moving through the area. Treat the cue as a warning to stop, identify cover, and scan likely approaches rather than as a signal to sprint toward the source. Audio can tell you that a Skulker is close; it does not by itself tell you whether the machine has a clear line of fire.

Positioning and gear that keep the fight controllable
Hard cover
Choose cover that can physically block incoming fire and still lets you expose enough of your weapon to shoot. A wall, rock, or substantial structure is preferable to a thin object that only hides your character model. Before firing, check where you will retreat if the Skulker moves, and avoid corners that force you to step into the open to regain sight.
Line of sight
Maintain a sightline to the Skulker whenever possible. You do not need to stand continuously in view; you need to know where it is before each peek. If it disappears, stay behind cover, listen, and reacquire it. Moving after visual contact is lost is the main way a manageable engagement turns into an ambush.
Ammunition selection
Carry the ammunition for your chosen precision weapon and reserve Heavy Ammo for the later phase. The sources do not publish a confirmed number of rounds required to destroy a Skulker, so a responsible loadout uses a reserve instead of relying on a precise round count. If your inventory cannot support both roles, prioritize enough precision ammunition to disable mobility and then decide whether extraction is safer than spending your last Heavy Ammo.

Weight and economy
Weight matters when selecting an early-game weapon. The published 8 kg figure applies to the Ferro in PC Gamer’s early-game reporting; it is not a universal weight for every Skulker loadout. Its five-metal, two-rubber craft cost also makes it a way to field armour penetration without committing to a more expensive option, provided you can manage the single-shot reload rhythm.
Step-by-step Skulker fight
- Stop when you hear the warning. Use the audio cue to locate the machine’s general direction. Do not run directly toward it.
- Pick hard cover before attacking. Position so that you can peek, fire, and return to safety without crossing an exposed lane.
- Confirm the target. The Skulker is small, so verify that your sightline reaches the machine rather than a piece of foreground terrain.
- Break mobility first. Aim at a leg or wheel assembly. This is the priority target because reducing movement makes the next damage window safer and more predictable.
- Return to cover after the shot or burst. Especially with the Ferro, use the reload or recovery time behind protection instead of standing in the open.
- Shift to precision body shots. Once the mobility assembly has been damaged and the body is exposed, keep firing from the same protected angle.
- Use Heavy Ammo when appropriate. Switch when the turret is active, when the body window is difficult to exploit, or when precision ammunition is becoming scarce.
- Reacquire before advancing. If the Skulker moves behind a corner, wait until you can see it again. Only then should you change angles or close distance.
- Confirm the destruction objective. For the optional Pendola Pass objective, track your count toward three destroyed Skulkers and secure the Skulker Targeter before extraction.
Where to shoot
First target: legs and wheel assemblies
The mobility assemblies are the opening target. Hitting them first limits the Skulker’s ability to slide out of your angle or force you into a pursuit. Aim deliberately at the assembly that is most visible from your cover; exposing yourself to reach a less convenient side defeats the purpose of the tactic.
Second target: exposed body
After mobility is damaged, use precision fire on the exposed body. Keep your crosshair on the visible section and fire only when the shot is clear. A body shot taken through cover or at a poor angle is more likely to waste ammunition than to shorten the encounter.
Turret phase
When the turret is active, Heavy Ammo becomes the useful fallback or finisher identified in the available guidance. Stay behind cover during the transition, then take the shot when the turret presents a clean target. Do not abandon your position merely because the Skulker has changed attack behavior.

Solo players should favor the shortest, safest sightline from hard cover. Keep the Skulker in view, damage mobility, and reload only while protected. If it vanishes behind terrain, remain stationary long enough to hear or see it again; moving to recover the angle is riskier when nobody else can watch your flank.
Squad
A squad can divide attention without requiring a formal role system. One player can maintain visual contact from cover while another shifts to a better angle. The second player should move only after the target’s position is known, and the player holding sight should avoid firing in a way that forces both teammates into the same exposed lane. The cited guides do not establish a mandatory squad composition or role assignment.
Common mistakes and fixes
Chasing around a corner
Symptom: the Skulker disappears and you sprint after it. Fix: stop at cover, reacquire visual contact, and choose a new angle only when you know where the machine is.

Reloading in the open
Symptom: you begin a reload after peeking and cannot retreat. Fix: treat every shot as a reason to return behind cover, especially with the Ferro’s one-shot-per-reload pattern.
Using Heavy Ammo immediately
Symptom: the reserve is empty when the turret becomes active. Fix: begin with precision fire and hold Heavy Ammo for the turret phase or a finishing window unless the precision option cannot create a safe opening.

Preparing for the Tracks of the Beast objective
If you are pursuing the optional objective connected with Tracks of the Beast, the requirement is to destroy three Skulkers and extract a Skulker Targeter. Plan the run around repeatable, cover-based engagements rather than trying to eliminate all three quickly. Confirm each destruction before leaving the area, preserve enough ammunition for the next contact, and extract only after the target item and kill count are secure.
Bottom line for a safe kill
Bring an Anvil, Renegade, or Osprey when you want the most straightforward precision plan. Choose the Ferro when its armour penetration, five-metal/two-rubber craft cost, and 8 kg early-game weight fit your inventory, and accept that each shot is separated by a reload. Keep Heavy Ammo in reserve, fight from hard cover, disable mobility before attacking the body, and never follow a Skulker blindly around a corner. Those choices address the encounter’s real risks without relying on an unverified health or ammunition number.
