Recoilless Rifle and Spear are guide-recommended choices for opening the armor; Autocannon, Laser Cannon, or a turret emplacement can follow up on the exposed section. These are practical weapon roles, not a tested ranking of which weapon kills the Leviathan fastest.
Where to aim on the Leviathan
The Leviathan is described as a massive, durable, heavily armored target. A PC Gamer gameplay guide points to its front wings and segment joints as weak points: break a wing or section to expose a blue-flaming area, then direct heavy weapon fire into that opening. Treat the armor-breaking shot and the exposed-section follow-up as separate jobs rather than spending all your fire on the intact hull.

The guide names the Recoilless Rifle and Spear as options for destroying the ship, and the Autocannon, Laser Cannon, or a turret emplacement for firing into exposed sections. Those recommendations identify useful roles, but they do not establish a universal best weapon or provide a controlled comparison of damage, ammunition use, or kill time.
Choose weapons by the job

Arrowhead’s broader weapon-balancing notes in update 4.1.0 say light and medium penetration weapons have more distinct advantages, and that light-penetration weapons generally deal a higher percentage of their total damage to durable enemies. That is general balance context, not a Leviathan-specific weapon recommendation; the weak-point sequence above comes from gameplay-guide advice.

Watch for its firing cue and use cover
Arrowhead’s June 17, 2025 patch notes say: “Leviathans now have a shorter sight range and will mark their target with light a few seconds before they fire.” When the light marks your position, seek cover or break line of sight instead of remaining exposed to finish an attack.

Arrowhead’s June 10, 2025 patch notes reduced Leviathan projectile damage from 1500 to 350. The stated intent was to keep direct hits lethal to Helldivers while preventing them from instantly destroying Exosuits and FRVs. The same notes say turret-shot explosion damage and radius increased, preserving lethality through area denial.

The June 17, 2025 notes then described the shorter sight range and light warning cue. These are dated changes; they do not establish that no later update altered Leviathan armor, turret behavior, or weapon interactions.
