For most small-business websites in 2026, start with reputable shared hosting or managed WordPress hosting. Choose shared hosting for a brochure, local-service, portfolio or small catalogue site; choose managed WordPress when you want the host to handle more maintenance; move to a VPS or managed cloud service when you need server control, unusual software or consistently heavier traffic.
Do not choose on the introductory monthly figure alone. Promotional prices usually apply only to a long first term and renew at a higher rate. Compare the renewal price, billing term, backups, staging, support and your realistic upgrade path before paying.

Web hosting rents the server resources that deliver your domain, website files, database, email-related records and media to visitors. The right plan is not the one with the most advertised storage; it is the one that keeps administration within your skills and leaves room for the traffic and features you actually expect.
Reliability and recovery
Your host should make it possible to restore a working site after an update, plugin error, compromised password or accidental deletion. Ask whether backups are automatic, how long they are retained, whether restoration is included and whether backups are stored separately from the live account. A backup checkbox without a tested restore process is not a recovery plan.

Security basics
Every public site needs HTTPS through an SSL/TLS certificate, account-level access controls, software updates and a way to respond to malware or a stolen credential. Free SSL is common, but confirm that it covers every hostname you will use and that renewal is automatic.
A manageable control panel
Small businesses often have one owner or a very small team maintaining the site. A clear control panel, one-click staging or cloning, useful logs and responsive support can save more time than an extra amount of storage. If you will not administer a server from a command line, avoid plans that assume Linux administration skills.
Pick the hosting type before comparing companies
Shared hosting: the sensible default for a simple site
Shared hosting places multiple customer websites on one managed server. It is usually the lowest-cost option and is appropriate for a service business, restaurant, club, consultant, tradesperson, portfolio or modest product catalogue. The host handles the operating system and much of the server maintenance.
- Best for: a new or established brochure site, contact forms, a small blog and light-to-moderate traffic.
- Advantages: low planning cost, a simple control panel and little server administration.
- Trade-offs: fewer configuration choices, resource limits shared with other accounts and a less predictable path for unusual software.
- Upgrade signal: repeated resource-limit notices, slowdowns that remain after site optimisation, or a requirement for custom services and background processes.
Managed WordPress: pay to reduce maintenance
Managed WordPress plans are tuned for WordPress and shift more routine work to the provider. Typical inclusions advertised in this category are automatic WordPress updates, a staging tool, a content-delivery network (CDN), SSL and sometimes a domain for the first year. Exact inclusions differ by plan and must be confirmed at checkout.
- Best for: owners who want WordPress but do not want to maintain server settings, update workflows and caching themselves.
- Advantages: a WordPress-focused support process, easier staging and update management, and a clearer workflow for non-specialists.
- Trade-offs: higher recurring cost than basic shared hosting, restrictions on some plugins or server settings, and less freedom than a self-managed VPS.
- Upgrade signal: the site needs custom services, persistent workers, unusual extensions or resource isolation that the managed plan does not provide.
VPS: more control, more responsibility
A virtual private server allocates a virtual machine with defined CPU, memory and storage. You can select software and tune the environment, but an unmanaged VPS makes you responsible for operating-system updates, firewall rules, monitoring, backups and incident response. A managed VPS reduces that burden at a higher price.

- Best for: developers, agencies and businesses running custom applications, private services, queues or predictable workloads.
- Advantages: root or administrative control, isolated resources and a broad choice of software.
- Trade-offs: technical administration, security responsibility and more complicated recovery.
- Upgrade signal: sustained CPU or memory pressure, a need for custom networking or software that shared and managed WordPress plans cannot support.
Managed cloud: flexible scaling without a raw virtual machine
Managed cloud platforms run applications on infrastructure supplied by a major cloud provider while adding a management layer. They can be useful when traffic is less predictable or when you need to change server size without redesigning the site. You still need to understand the platform’s backup, support and billing model.
- Best for: growing stores, applications with bursts of traffic and teams that need cloud flexibility but do not want to configure every infrastructure component.
- Advantages: scalable server sizes, more deployment choices and a bridge between shared hosting and self-managed cloud infrastructure.
- Trade-offs: higher and sometimes less predictable costs, a steeper dashboard and potentially separate charges for backups, bandwidth or add-ons.
Shortlist by business situation
The following names appeared in published hosting roundups, not in an independent uptime or speed audit. Treat the list as a starting point and verify current plans on each provider’s official site.
Shared hosting candidates
- SiteGround: frequently listed for small-business shared hosting; compare its renewal price and the resources included on the exact term you need.
- Bluehost: commonly listed for entry-level sites and a straightforward WordPress path; verify renewal pricing because one roundup did not find a published renewal rate on its pricing page.
- DreamHost: included in shared-hosting roundups and notable in one guide for a 97-day money-back guarantee. Confirm the guarantee’s current scope and exclusions.
- IONOS: often appears at a very low introductory price. Check what the entry tier limits and what it renews at before treating the headline price as a budget.
Managed WordPress candidates
- Bluehost: a roundup described a managed WordPress plan with automatic updates, free SSL, a free CDN, staging and a domain free for the first year. Confirm whether each feature remains in the tier you select.
- SiteGround: named among leading paid managed-WordPress options in roundup coverage; verify the current backup, staging and support terms directly.
- Kinsta: positioned as a premium managed-WordPress option. It may make sense when support and a managed environment outweigh the lowest monthly price; compare visitor, storage and bandwidth limits carefully.
VPS and managed-cloud candidates
- Cloudways: listed for managed cloud deployments. Check which underlying cloud provider, data-centre region, backups and support level are included in the quoted price.
- DigitalOcean, Vultr and Linode: entry cloud plans were estimated at about $11 per month in roundup material. These figures are planning estimates, not verified quotations, and additional services can change the bill.
- AWS and Google Cloud: entry plans were estimated at about $33–36 per month. Usage-based billing, storage, data transfer, snapshots and support can add to that amount.
Price reality: promotional terms versus the bill you keep paying
All figures in this table were reported by secondary roundups and were not checked against live official pricing pages. They should help you set questions, not serve as quotations.
| Provider or category | Reported figure | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| SiteGround shared | $17.99 per month | Reported renewal price on a 12-month term; verify the current plan and tax treatment. |
| Bluehost shared | From $3.99 per month | Reported for a 36-month term; a renewal rate was not published on the pricing page according to one guide. |
| DreamHost | $7.99 per month renewal | Reported by one guide; the same guide cited a 97-day money-back guarantee. Confirm both directly. |
| IONOS entry plan | From $1.00 per month | Introductory figure from one guide; term, renewal and included resources require confirmation. |
| Managed WordPress (Bluehost example) | From $3.99 per month | Reported starting figure; described inclusions were free first-year domain, SSL, automatic updates, CDN and staging. Verify tier and renewal. |
| Cloud entry plans | About $11 per month | Roundup estimate for DigitalOcean, Vultr and Linode; usage and add-ons may be extra. |
| Major-cloud entry plans | About $33–36 per month | Roundup estimate for AWS and Google Cloud; usage-based charges can vary. |
For planning, one budget guide put a basic business plan with daily backups and a CDN at roughly $5–15 per month, and managed WordPress or VPS hosting at roughly $20–50 per month. These are planning ranges rather than verified market rates. Calculate the first-term total and the recurring annual total separately:
- Multiply the promotional monthly price by the number of introductory months.
- Add the domain renewal, privacy, backup, email, migration and premium-support charges that are not included.
- Multiply the renewal price by the next 12 months (or the provider’s renewal term).
- Compare the three-year cost, not only the first invoice.

How to choose in a practical sequence
Step 1: Describe the site you have now
Write down the CMS, approximate page count, database size, media library, monthly visitors, busiest days, email needs and any integrations such as booking, payments or stock management. If you do not have traffic data, estimate conservatively and note the assumption.
Step 2: Separate must-have functions from future ideas
List functions that require server access, scheduled jobs, persistent processes, special PHP extensions, webhooks or a separate database. If none are required, shared or managed WordPress hosting is usually easier to operate than a VPS.
Step 3: Set a recurring budget
Use the planning ranges as a starting point, then reserve money for domain renewal, paid themes or plugins, transactional email, backups and professional help. A cheap first term is not a sustainable budget if renewal doubles or add-ons are mandatory.
Step 4: Check the contract details
Open the provider’s current pricing, acceptable-use, backup, resource-limit and refund pages. Save screenshots or PDFs of the plan name, term, renewal figure and included features. This protects you when a sales page changes.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsStep 5: Test support before purchase
Ask a specific pre-sales question: for example, whether a particular plugin, staging workflow or migration is supported. Judge the clarity and technical accuracy of the reply rather than accepting a generic promise of “unlimited” resources.

Step 6: Build and test before switching DNS
Install the site on a temporary address or staging environment, test forms and checkout, verify redirects, check mobile layouts and create a restore point. Lower the DNS time-to-live before the final move, then change DNS only after the new site passes your checklist.
Moving an existing site safely
- Inventory the current account: export files, databases, DNS records, cron jobs, email settings, redirects and third-party integrations.
- Make an independent backup: download the database and files and confirm that the archive opens before changing anything.
- Create the destination: select the matching PHP or application version, install HTTPS and create a staging or temporary domain.
- Transfer and validate: import the database, copy files, update configuration values and test administrator login, forms, media, search, payments and transactional messages.
- Plan the DNS cutover: reduce TTL in advance, change only the required records and monitor both the old and new servers during propagation.
- Keep the old account briefly: do not cancel it until DNS has settled, email works and you have a fresh backup from the new host.
Performance and uptime claims: how to interpret them
No independent uptime percentage or speed benchmark was established for the providers in the available material. Roundup tests are often self-tested and are not independently audited, so a ranking is not proof that one host will be faster for your exact site and audience.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Instead, measure after launch. Record page-load experience from your main customer regions, server response time, error rates, cache-hit behaviour and the time required to restore a backup. Test both an uncached page and a normal repeat visit. Keep plugins, images and database queries under control before paying for a larger server.
When shared hosting is no longer enough
- You receive repeated CPU, memory, process or database-limit warnings.
- Traffic spikes cause errors even after image, cache and application optimisation.
- You need a long-running worker, custom daemon, unusual extension or a private network rule.
- You must isolate workloads for security or contractual reasons.
- Your team can administer a VPS, or the cost of managed administration is justified by the business.
Upgrade based on a documented symptom, not a vague fear of growth. Ask the provider whether the next tier changes CPU allocation, memory, PHP workers, database capacity, bandwidth or only storage. If the upgrade does not remove the limiting resource, it is not a real solution.

Fix: compare first-term and renewal totals and include every required add-on.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Assuming “unlimited” means unlimited performance
Fix: read CPU, memory, process, inode, database and acceptable-use limits. Storage without processing capacity will not prevent slowdowns.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

Paying for a VPS without an administrator
Fix: select managed service or shared/managed WordPress hosting unless someone is responsible for patching, firewalling, monitoring and recovery.
Confusing a CDN with a backup
Fix: treat a CDN as a delivery and caching layer. Keep separate, restorable backups of the application and database.
Trusting affiliate rankings as test results
Fix: use rankings to create a shortlist, then verify terms and run your own checks. Affiliate-driven lists can be useful, but they are not independent audits.
Moving DNS before testing
Fix: use staging or a temporary hostname, test every business-critical path and keep the old site available during propagation.

A decision matrix
| Your situation | Starting point | Why | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Five-to-fifty-page service site | Shared hosting | Low administration and adequate resources for normal brochure traffic | Backups, SSL, support and resource limits |
| WordPress site maintained by a non-technical owner | Managed WordPress | Updates, staging and WordPress-focused support reduce routine work | Plugin restrictions, restore process and renewal price |
| Online catalogue with seasonal spikes | Managed WordPress or managed cloud | More caching and a clearer scaling path | PHP workers, database limits, CDN and burst policy |
| Custom application or background worker | Managed VPS or managed cloud | Supports software and process control unavailable on shared plans | Who patches the server, monitors it and responds to incidents |
| Technical team needing full control | VPS or major-cloud infrastructure | Administrative access and flexible deployment | Total usage cost, security ownership, backups and support tier |
Bottom line for 2026 buyers
Start with shared hosting for a straightforward small-business site, managed WordPress when reducing maintenance is worth the premium, and VPS or managed cloud when custom control or sustained load makes shared resources unsuitable. Shortlist providers such as SiteGround, Bluehost, DreamHost, IONOS, Kinsta, Cloudways, DigitalOcean, Vultr, Linode, AWS or Google Cloud according to that need—not according to a single ranking.
Before checkout, verify the live official price, renewal rate, term, backups, staging, support and limits. The available roundup figures are not independently audited, and no single provider can guarantee the same speed or uptime for every site, region and configuration.
