The flexibility comes with practical compromises. A detachable keyboard is thinner than a conventional laptop keyboard and may not be as comfortable for an entire day of typing. Tablet bodies also have fewer permanent ports, so docks, hubs or adapters may be necessary. Microsoft’s buyer guidance positions tablets for flexible touch and pen use, while recommending laptops for extended typing, heavier multitasking or people who need more ports.
A 360-degree convertible laptop is a different category. Its keyboard remains attached and folds behind the screen. 2. Microsoft Surface Pro 13-inch: the larger-screen choice
Why it makes sense
The 13-inch Surface Pro is aimed at buyers who want tablet flexibility without giving up as much working area. Microsoft lists two display possibilities: an OLED or LCD panel running at up to 120 Hz. The exact panel depends on the configuration, so do not assume every 13-inch unit has OLED. A larger canvas helps when marking up wide PDFs, arranging two application windows, drawing or editing photos with a pen.
Its two USB-C/USB4 ports support a newer, higher-bandwidth standard than the 12-inch model’s USB 3.2 ports. Microsoft also lists Surface Connect, which can simplify charging or docking with compatible accessories. Those ports do not turn the tablet into a desktop replacement by themselves; you may still need a dock for several monitors, wired networking or legacy USB devices.
Who should buy it
- Professionals who annotate documents, review spreadsheets or use split-screen layouts on the go.

3. ASUS ProArt PZ13: the OLED-and-creator alternative
Why it makes sense
iTechGuides names the ProArt PZ13 its top all-around Windows tablet and highlights an OLED display, an included keyboard cover and an SD card slot. That combination is attractive to photographers, video students and other creators who move files from cameras or memory cards and want strong contrast for visual work. A keyboard in the box can also make the real purchase cost easier to understand than a tablet that requires separate accessories.
The same roundup reports a 17-hour-47-minute battery test. That is a result from the roundup’s testing, not a manufacturer maximum, and the roundup does not publish a detailed protocol. It must not be compared directly with Microsoft’s “up to 15.5 hours” video-playback estimate, because the workloads, brightness, software and test conditions may differ.

The cited iTechGuides roundup does not establish the PZ13’s current regional configuration, exact weight, processor options, port list beyond the cited SD card slot, or retail availability. Before buying, confirm the current ASUS specification sheet, Windows edition, memory and storage, the keyboard-cover bundle and the return policy. Check that the SD card format and speed meet your camera workflow; an SD slot is useful only if it supports the cards and sustained transfer rates you need.

The 13-inch model is not simply a faster version of the 12-inch model. The meaningful differences are physical size, panel choices, refresh rate and USB4. Choose based on how you work rather than assuming the higher price automatically buys longer battery life: Microsoft lists the same maximum video-playback figure for both.

Start with tablet weight, then account for the keyboard, charger and any hub. The 12-inch Surface Pro has the lowest stated tablet weight at 1.5 lb. A smaller body is easier to use in an airplane seat or while standing, but a 13-inch screen can reduce scrolling when reviewing documents. School and note-taking

Microsoft’s “up to 15.5 hours” figure for both current Surface Pro sizes is a video-playback estimate from testing with preproduction devices. Microsoft notes that actual battery life varies. Brightness, wireless activity, browser tabs, connected accessories, video codec, application load and Windows updates can all reduce runtime, so treat the number as a ceiling under stated conditions rather than a promise for mixed work.
iTechGuides’ 17-hour-47-minute PZ13 result is a reported test outcome. iTechGuides does not publish a protocol that can be compared with Microsoft’s estimate, so it is useful as a data point but not as a direct ranking against Microsoft’s estimate. When comparing in a store or return window, run the applications you actually use, measure drain over a known period and note screen brightness and network conditions.
Budget the complete setup

Windows compatibility and performance checks
The cited listings do not provide processor, memory or storage figures for every configuration, so those details must be checked on the exact listing. Match the hardware to the workload:
- For browser work, reading and handwritten notes, prioritize weight, screen comfort and keyboard quality.
- For many simultaneous desktop applications, verify memory capacity and sustained performance; a detachable may be less comfortable than a laptop for this use.
- For specialized software, confirm that the Windows edition, processor architecture, drivers and required accessories are supported before purchase.
- For external displays and fast storage, compare USB4 versus USB 3.2 and check whether a dock is required.
