Why 2.4GHz dongles are better for gaming
Wireless earbuds can connect through standard Bluetooth or through a dedicated USB wireless dongle. For games, the dongle is usually the better choice because it is designed to minimize the delay between an on-screen event and the sound reaching your ears. RTINGS identifies USB-C wireless dongles as the low-latency route for PC, PlayStation and Xbox gaming, and PC Gamer likewise notes that a dedicated gaming mode or dongle reduces delay compared with ordinary Bluetooth.

What latency feels like
Latency is the time between an audio event and playback. A small delay may be tolerable in a turn-based game but distracting when a shooter’s muzzle flash, a rhythm-game cue or a racing-game gear change must line up precisely. Bluetooth performance also depends on the codec, operating system and interference, so a phone-oriented pair can behave differently from one advertised with a gaming mode.
When Bluetooth still makes sense
Bluetooth is useful for music, calls and devices that do not accept the gaming dongle. It can also save a USB port when you are travelling. Switch to the 2.4GHz receiver before playing latency-sensitive games; do not assume that Bluetooth’s presence means it is the best mode for every use.
Platform compatibility: check the edition before buying
PC
All four models are aimed at PC use through a USB receiver, Bluetooth or both. A USB-C receiver can plug directly into a modern laptop or desktop, while a USB-A adapter may be needed if the package includes one for older ports. Confirm which adapters are in the box and whether your computer permits the receiver to sit where it has a clear signal path.

PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4
The PlayStation version of Arctis GameBuds uses a single-mode connection that works with PlayStation and PC. Sony documents INZONE Buds with the supplied USB transceiver and a switch position for PC or PS5/MOBILE. Razer lists PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 support for Hammerhead HyperSpeed through its USB or Bluetooth audio options. For any model, connect the receiver to the console rather than pairing the earbuds as ordinary Bluetooth audio; PlayStation consoles have limited support for generic Bluetooth headsets.
Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One
Xbox buyers need special care. SteelSeries sells a separate Xbox edition of Arctis GameBuds; the PlayStation edition is not the correct purchase for Xbox. Razer lists Hammerhead HyperSpeed compatibility with Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, as well as PlayStation, PC, Mac, smartphones, tablets and handhelds. Verify the exact Xbox package and its included receiver before checkout because similarly named variants can differ.
Handhelds and mobile devices
Razer documents smartphone, tablet and handheld compatibility through USB or Bluetooth. ASUS provides both a 2.4GHz USB-C dongle and Bluetooth, which is useful when moving between a handheld, phone and console. Sony’s transceiver has a PS5/MOBILE position, but check the connector and operating-mode requirements for your specific phone or handheld.
SteelSeries Arctis GameBuds: best all-around choice
Arctis GameBuds offer the broadest feature balance in this group: high-speed 2.4GHz wireless for games, Bluetooth 5.3 for general listening, ANC and transparency modes, IP55 protection, and more than 100 PlayStation audio presets. SteelSeries rates them for 10 hours on a charge and 40 hours including the charging case.
Who should buy them
- PC players who want one pair for games and everyday Bluetooth listening.
- PlayStation players who want ANC, transparency and a large library of console audio presets.
- Users who regularly move between a gaming receiver and a phone.
Edition warning
Choose the PlayStation edition for PlayStation and PC, or the separate Xbox edition for Xbox. Treat the edition name as a compatibility requirement, not a cosmetic color or regional label.
Battery and durability
The 10-hour and 40-hour figures are SteelSeries’ current product-page ratings, checked in 2026. Actual runtime changes with ANC, transparency, volume, wireless activity and temperature. IP55 protection can help with dust and light moisture, but it is not a license to submerge the earbuds or use them in heavy rain.

Razer Hammerhead HyperSpeed: the Xbox-first alternative
Hammerhead HyperSpeed uses Razer’s 2.4GHz HyperSpeed connection through a USB-C dongle and also supports Bluetooth 5.2. Razer lists Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, PC, Mac, smartphones, tablets and handhelds with USB or Bluetooth audio.
Why it suits multi-platform Xbox owners
The documented Xbox support removes the main compatibility uncertainty for Xbox buyers, while the same set can move to a PlayStation, computer or handheld. It is a practical choice when one pair must cover several systems rather than a single console.
Interpreting the battery number
Razer’s support specifications report up to 15 hours total in a stated Xbox test with lighting and ANC turned off. That is a manufacturer test condition, not a universal runtime. Turning on ANC or lighting, increasing volume or using a different connection can reduce endurance. No per-charge figure is established in the cited specification, so do not compare the 15-hour total directly with another product’s per-charge number.
Sony INZONE Buds: a focused PC and PS5 pick
Sony positions INZONE Buds around a dedicated USB-transceiver connection. Its help guide documents a switch position for PC or PS5/MOBILE, and Sony’s 2023 press release states: “The INZONE Buds come with a USB-C® dongle connection that provides latency of less than 30ms, meaning there will be nothing to hold you back.”
What the under-30-ms claim means
“Less than 30 ms” is Sony’s stated dongle-latency specification. It is not an independent measurement and should not be read as a guarantee that every game, computer or console will produce exactly the same end-to-end delay. Game engine timing, USB scheduling and display latency remain separate parts of the chain.
Best use case
Choose INZONE Buds when PC and PS5 are your main platforms and a dedicated receiver matters more than broad Xbox coverage. Follow the transmitter’s PC or PS5/MOBILE switch position before connecting it, and keep the receiver attached to the active device while gaming.

ASUS lists a 2.4GHz USB-C dongle alongside Bluetooth. That combination lets you use the receiver for low-latency gaming and Bluetooth for phones or other listening devices without buying separate earbuds.
What to verify
- Confirm that the current package supports your console and includes the connector or adapter you need.
- Check current inventory and firmware information because platform support and stock can change.
- Use the 2.4GHz receiver for games even if Bluetooth pairing is more convenient during setup.
The cited ASUS specification does not establish a battery total, independent latency measurement, microphone ranking or current price. Treat those as buying checks rather than assumed advantages.
Feature-by-feature buying guide
Microphone quality
The available specifications do not provide a consistent, independent microphone test for these four models. If you play team games, look for a return policy that allows a fit and voice check, then test your voice in the console’s party-chat preview or your PC’s recording panel. Listen for clipping, keyboard noise and whether your voice remains clear when the earbuds are moved slightly.

ANC and transparency
Arctis GameBuds explicitly include ANC and transparency. Razer’s battery test distinguishes between ANC on and off, so ANC affects its runtime even though the cited feature summary does not provide a separate performance rating. The supplied specifications do not establish ANC or transparency performance for Sony or ASUS. ANC can reduce fan or room noise, while transparency is safer when you need to hear a doorbell or another person; neither mode replaces a good seal.
Fit and comfort
Ear shape, tip size and pressure tolerance vary too much for a universal comfort winner. Prioritize a stable seal without forcing the earbuds deep into the canal. During a return window, test each tip size while turning your head, speaking and wearing the earbuds for at least an hour. A loose seal reduces bass and makes ANC less effective; an overly tight seal can cause fatigue.
Battery and charging
Compare figures only when the measurement is comparable. Arctis GameBuds provide both a per-charge rating and a case-total rating. Razer’s 15-hour figure is a total under Xbox conditions with lighting and ANC off. Sony and ASUS battery figures are not stated in the cited material. Charging-case capacity, recharge time and charging connector are therefore items to confirm on the current product listing.
Companion software and presets
SteelSeries advertises more than 100 PlayStation audio presets. Presets can be useful for switching between game genres, but check which settings are stored on the earbuds and which require a computer or phone. The cited specifications do not establish equivalent preset counts or companion-app features for the other models.
Price
There is no stable price that applies across countries, editions and sales periods. Check the exact variant, seller, warranty region and included adapters at the time of purchase rather than comparing an old listing with a current one.
How to set up wireless gaming earbuds
- Identify your platform and edition. For Xbox, select the Xbox Arctis GameBuds or an Xbox-compatible Hammerhead HyperSpeed package. For PS5, PS4 or PC, use the corresponding receiver supplied with the earbuds.
- Charge the earbuds and case. Complete the initial charge using the method specified in the current manual, then place both earbuds in the case until their status indicators show they are ready.
- Connect the dongle. Plug the USB-C receiver into the console, PC or handheld. Use the included adapter if your device has only USB-A.
- Select the correct mode. Set the receiver or earbuds to the platform position where a switch is provided. Sony documents PC and PS5/MOBILE positions for INZONE Buds.
- Choose the console audio output. Set the system’s headset or USB audio output to the connected receiver. Raise the console’s chat and game-mix controls separately so you can check both channels.
- Test the microphone. Record a short clip or join a private party. Check that the microphone is not muted in hardware, software or the console privacy settings.
- Pair Bluetooth only for secondary devices. Enable Bluetooth pairing for a phone or tablet when needed, but return to the 2.4GHz receiver before playing latency-sensitive games.
- Update firmware if the manufacturer provides an approved utility. Keep the earbuds, case and receiver connected during the update and do not interrupt power.
Troubleshooting common problems
No sound on Xbox
- Confirm that you bought the Xbox edition or an Xbox-listed package.
- Reconnect the USB receiver directly to the console rather than through an unpowered hub.
- Check that the receiver is in the intended wireless mode and that the console has selected USB headset audio.
Audio works but feels delayed
- Switch from Bluetooth to the 2.4GHz or USB-transceiver connection.
- Move the receiver away from metal, crowded USB ports and wireless routers.
- Disable unnecessary audio processing and confirm that game mode is active when the product provides one.
One earbud is silent
- Return both earbuds to the case, wait for them to disconnect, then remove them together.
- Clean the charging contacts and verify that the silent earbud is actually charging.
- Re-pair the earbuds and receiver using the current manual’s reset sequence.
Voice chat is quiet or distorted
- Raise the chat-mix level without pushing the game volume to an unsafe level.
- Check the console or PC input selector and microphone mute switch.
- Reposition the earbud and tip; a poor fit can move the microphone away from your mouth and increase background noise.
Which pair should you buy?
Choose SteelSeries Arctis GameBuds if
You want the most complete feature set for PC and PlayStation, including 2.4GHz, Bluetooth 5.3, ANC, transparency, IP55 protection and a 10-hour/40-hour battery rating. Select the Xbox edition instead when Xbox is your main console.
Choose Razer Hammerhead HyperSpeed if
Xbox compatibility is the deciding factor and you also use PlayStation, PC, Mac or handheld devices. Its documented multi-platform support and 2.4GHz HyperSpeed receiver make it the clearest Xbox-oriented alternative. Treat its 15-hour total as a test-condition maximum with lighting and ANC off.
Choose Sony INZONE Buds if
You mainly play on PC and PS5 and want Sony’s stated sub-30-ms USB-dongle latency. Confirm the PC or PS5/MOBILE transmitter position during setup.
