Best overall for travel: Razer Barracuda V2 Pro. It has a documented receiver compartment beneath a magnetic left-earcup faceplate, foldable earcups, simultaneous 2.4GHz and Bluetooth 6.0, and up to 70 hours of battery life with active noise cancellation (ANC) turned off. The HyperX Cloud MIX 2 is the long-runtime alternative, while the NUBWO G06 Pro is the desk-focused option with a charging dock and built-in receiver storage.
A USB dongle in the box is not the same as a headset that can store the dongle. The models below are separated by how the receiver is retained, which wireless modes they support, battery conditions, portability, and the evidence available for current compatibility.

Why built-in dongle storage matters
Most 2.4GHz gaming headsets use a small USB receiver. That receiver is easy to misplace when it is left in a laptop, console, travel pouch or another room. A storage feature on the headset keeps the receiver with the device, so the headset and its low-latency link travel as one package.

- On-the-Go Convenience: With an integrated handle and lightweight design (2.8 lbs), our lap desk is portable for travel or moving around the house, offering flexibility in any space.
There are several different designs:
- Magnetic earcup compartment: a removable faceplate hides the receiver without adding an external pouch. This is the Barracuda V2 Pro approach.
- Earcup slot: the dongle slides into the shell of the earcup. The Cloud MIX 2 uses this arrangement.
- Dock storage: the receiver has a fixed home in a desktop stand, as on the G06 Pro. This is convenient at a desk but less useful if you leave the dock behind while traveling.
- No documented storage: a headset may include an excellent USB-C receiver but still require a separate case or cable organizer. Do not infer a storage compartment from the presence of a dongle alone.
For a travel headset, check that the compartment closes securely, that the receiver fits without stressing its USB connector, and that the earcups still fold or pack efficiently. For a permanent desk, a dock can be more convenient than an internal slot.
Razer Barracuda V2 Pro: the clearest travel pick
Verified storage and portability
Razer describes the Barracuda V2 Pro as having “built-in dongle storage” and an “Ultra-Portable Foldable Design.” Tom’s Guide identifies the compartment under a magnetic faceplate on the left earcup. You remove the faceplate, place the receiver inside, and replace the cover; there is no separate receiver case to remember.
Foldable earcups reduce the headset’s packed size. The combination of folding hardware and an integrated compartment is why this is the strongest match for a reader who wants the USB receiver to travel with the headset.
Wireless and platform flexibility
The headset can maintain a 2.4GHz connection and Bluetooth 6.0 connection simultaneously. The 2.4GHz link is the gaming-oriented path, while Bluetooth is useful for a phone or another everyday device. Razer lists PC, mobile and console connectivity; Tom’s Guide specifically lists PC, PlayStation 5 and Switch compatibility. Use the supplied receiver and the platform’s supported USB mode rather than assuming every console feature is identical.
A USB-C connection provides a wired fallback. The product page also lists 7.1.4 Surround Sound, which is a processing feature rather than a guarantee of positional accuracy in every game.

- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Microphone choices
The Barracuda V2 Pro has a detachable Razer HyperClear Full Band Mic and internal beamforming microphones. The detachable microphone is the better choice when voice clarity is a priority; the internal microphones keep the headset usable when you are traveling without the boom attached.
Battery expectations
Razer rates the headset for up to 70 hours with ANC off and up to 50 hours with ANC on. The difference is a reminder to compare battery claims under the same conditions. A buyer who leaves ANC enabled should use the 50-hour figure for planning, not the headline maximum.

HyperX Cloud MIX 2: the long-runtime alternative
Receiver retention
The Cloud MIX 2 listing places the USB-C dongle in an earcup. That is the feature that distinguishes it from ordinary dual-wireless headsets: the receiver has a defined storage location on the headset rather than relying on a loose accessory bag.
Wireless modes and ANC
Best Buy’s listing specifies a 2.4GHz USB-C dongle, Bluetooth 5.3 and hybrid ANC. The two wireless modes serve different jobs: use 2.4GHz for the gaming link and Bluetooth for compatible mobile or general-purpose devices. Hybrid ANC can reduce external noise, but it also changes the battery result.
Four separate runtime figures
The listing reports four combinations, so quoting only “110 hours” would be misleading:

How the storage works
NUBWO combines two forms of receiver retention: the headset has built-in dongle storage, and the official dock provides a fixed place for the headset and receiver when you are at your desk. That arrangement suits players who move between a permanent gaming station and occasional travel. At home, the dock reduces the chance that the receiver is left in a console; on a trip, the headset compartment can keep it with the headset.
Connectivity and compatibility
NUBWO lists 2.4GHz wireless, Bluetooth 5.3 and wired connectivity. Its product information describes the dock as PS5-compatible. Confirm the exact console, USB port and regional package before purchase because dock bundles and platform support can vary by listing.
Battery claim
NUBWO advertises up to 120 hours of battery life. The stated maximum does not include a connection mode, ANC state or other test conditions, so it cannot be compared directly with the Cloud MIX 2’s four-mode table. Treat it as a headline claim and plan for less in real use until your own usage establishes a baseline.
SteelSeries Nova models: good wireless options, unconfirmed storage
Pages for the Arctis Nova 4, Nova 5 and Nova 7 confirm USB-C wireless dongles and broad platform support. The cited pages do not document an integrated slot or compartment in the headset. That means these models can be considered when wireless performance or platform coverage matters more than receiver retention, but they should not be sold as “dongle-storage” picks without model-specific documentation.

If you choose one of these headsets, use a small labeled case, a console-side USB extension that stays attached, or a dedicated pocket in your travel bag. The receiver is still portable; it simply is not proven to be stored inside the headset.
Alienware AW988: useful historical context
The AW988 user guide documents a receiver slot inside the headset. The receiver is pushed into the slot until it clicks, then pushed again for release; a magnet helps hold it during removal. This is a clear example of a true onboard storage design.
It is not a current recommendation because the available evidence is an older manual and current availability was not established. Treat it as a reference when evaluating how a storage mechanism should work, not as a newly verified buying option.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.How to choose the right storage design
Choose magnetic or internal earcup storage for travel
A magnetic faceplate is quick to open and keeps the receiver hidden, while an internal slot usually gives the receiver a more enclosed home. In either case, inspect the closure before packing. A loose faceplate or a slot that does not retain the receiver defeats the purpose of integrated storage.
Choose dock storage for a fixed gaming station
A dock is useful when your headset normally lives beside a console or PC. It can keep the receiver, charging location and headset together. Its weakness is portability: the dock may be too large to pack, so verify that the headset itself still has a storage compartment if you intend to travel.

Match the wireless mode to your devices
- 2.4GHz: normally the preferred low-latency link for games and voice chat.
- Bluetooth: useful for phones, tablets and devices that do not accept the supplied gaming receiver.
- Simultaneous connections: the Barracuda V2 Pro explicitly supports concurrent 2.4GHz and Bluetooth 6.0, which can reduce the need to switch manually between gaming and mobile audio.
- Wired fallback: the Barracuda V2 Pro and G06 Pro list wired connectivity; verify the cable and platform behavior for your setup.
Read battery figures with their conditions
Always record the connection and ANC state next to a runtime number. The Cloud MIX 2 demonstrates why: its listed maximum ranges from 52 hours on 2.4GHz with ANC on to 110 hours on Bluetooth with ANC off. The Barracuda V2 Pro similarly drops from 70 to 50 hours when ANC is enabled. The G06 Pro’s 120-hour figure has no stated test condition in the cited material, so it is the least directly comparable number.
Check microphone and noise-control needs
If you stream, attend team calls or play in a noisy room, microphone design and ANC may matter more than a few extra battery hours. The Barracuda V2 Pro offers both a detachable boom and internal beamforming microphones. The Cloud MIX 2 lists hybrid ANC. The G06 Pro information cited here emphasizes its dock, storage and battery rather than a detailed microphone specification, so do not assume equivalent voice features.
Verify the exact regional package
USB-C receiver shape, console support, included cables, warranty terms and seller support can differ by region or marketplace listing. Before ordering, confirm:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- the headset model number and generation;
- that a 2.4GHz receiver is included, not only Bluetooth;
- the receiver connector and any required adapter;
- compatibility with your PC, PlayStation, Switch or phone;
- the storage compartment shown in the manual or product page;
- the current seller, price and warranty.
Travel setup: keep the headset and receiver together
- Pair and test at home. Connect the 2.4GHz receiver to the device you plan to use and confirm game audio, microphone input and chat output before packing.
- Disconnect the receiver safely. Remove it from the console, PC or USB extension rather than packing the headset with the receiver still exposed.
- Use the headset’s documented compartment. Open the Barracuda V2 Pro faceplate, place the receiver inside and close the magnetic cover; place the Cloud MIX 2 receiver in its earcup slot; or use the G06 Pro’s headset compartment when the dock stays home.
- Pack the charging cable separately but visibly. Receiver storage does not charge the headset. Keep the USB cable in the same pouch or a dedicated cable pocket.
- Confirm the mode at the destination. Use the 2.4GHz receiver for gaming, Bluetooth for compatible mobile devices, and wired mode when the destination does not support the receiver.
- Store the receiver again after playing. Make this the final shutdown step so the dongle is not left in a hotel TV, laptop or console.
Common problems and practical fixes
The headset works on Bluetooth but not through the dongle
Check that the receiver is actually in the headset rather than still in the travel case, then insert it directly into the gaming device or a known-good USB port. Select the headset as the operating system’s output and microphone device. If the product uses a mode switch, select 2.4GHz rather than Bluetooth and power-cycle both the headset and receiver.
The receiver will not fit in the compartment
Do not force it. Confirm that you have the receiver supplied with that headset and that no USB adapter or protective cap is attached. A marketplace bundle may include a different regional receiver. Consult the model’s manual or support page before closing the earcup over a connector that could bend.
The battery is far below the advertised maximum
Compare your use with the published condition: Bluetooth generally produces a different result from 2.4GHz, and ANC reduces the Barracuda V2 Pro and Cloud MIX 2 figures. High volume, microphone use, lighting and repeated reconnection can also reduce runtime. Charge fully, disable ANC for one cycle and note the connection mode before deciding that the battery is defective.
The dock is convenient but travel is awkward
Leave the dock at the desk and use the headset’s built-in compartment if your model has one. If the dock is the only documented storage location, pack the receiver in a labeled protective case instead of assuming the dock will travel with you.

Which headset should you buy?
- Pick the Razer Barracuda V2 Pro when portable receiver retention, foldability and simultaneous 2.4GHz/Bluetooth are your priorities. Its storage mechanism and platform claims are the most clearly documented.
- Pick the HyperX Cloud MIX 2 when the longest stated runtime matters most and you want an earcup slot plus Bluetooth 5.3, 2.4GHz and hybrid ANC. Use the connection-specific battery figures when planning trips.
- Pick the NUBWO G06 Pro when your headset normally lives on a desk and you value a dock, built-in storage, wired operation and a stated 120-hour maximum. Verify the exact PS5 bundle and treat the battery number as an unconditioned claim.
- Consider a SteelSeries Nova model only if you are comfortable carrying the USB-C receiver separately; the cited pages do not establish onboard storage.
- Use the Alienware AW988 information historically as an example of a documented slot, not as a current availability recommendation.
