If you want more mutant action alongside it, or something to play after finishing it, X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse is the clearest choice for an X-Men team adventure. For a broader Marvel roster that includes Wolverine, consider Marvel: Ultimate Alliance or Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2.

Best for an X-Men team: X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse
This is the most direct match if you want to play as an X-Men squad rather than follow one hero through a larger Marvel cast. Activision describes an action RPG in which X-Men and Brotherhood characters unite against Apocalypse. Nintendo’s listing counts 16 playable characters available from the outset, with others unlocked as the story unfolds, and describes four-player co-op.
The catch is age and access: the listed versions are legacy releases. The sources establish the original platforms, not present-day availability, condition, price, or compatibility with current hardware. Confirm the platform and version before buying or borrowing a copy.

#1 Best Overall
- Experience epic Super Hero action, as the game explains Nightcrawlers mysterious absence from the movie, and in-game events foreshadow the roles of the X-Men and Brotherhood in the film

- Battle fierce enemies and join forces in melee fighting, stealth-style action and time-based missions
- Uniquely engineered environments specifically designed to showcase each character's mutant abilities
- Get the ultimate control of the X-Men as they improve their superpowers over time through the Mutant Evolution System
Best for playing as Wolverine in a Marvel team: Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
If your priority is Wolverine but you are happy to share the roster with other Marvel heroes, the original Marvel: Ultimate Alliance is a straightforward alternative. Xbox’s listing includes Wolverine and describes solo play as well as co-op for up to four. It lists Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
That makes it a better fit for a broad superhero ensemble than for an X-Men-only experience: the official listing establishes Wolverine’s presence, not an all-mutant team focus.

Best follow-up for a larger roster: Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 suits players who want another ensemble game and are interested in its Civil War-era split between sides. Xbox describes more than 24 playable characters, team customization, and local or online co-op for up to four. Its listing names Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
Pick this over the first Ultimate Alliance if the larger stated roster, customization, or Civil War framing matters most; pick the first if you simply want the listed Wolverine option without those specific priorities.

How to choose and check availability
- Want the most X-Men-focused choice? Start with X-Men Legends II; it brings X-Men and Brotherhood characters together against Apocalypse.
- Want to play as Wolverine? Xbox’s listing explicitly includes him in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance.
- Want a broader team and more stated roster options? Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 lists more than 24 playable characters and team customization.
- Need co-op? The official descriptions specify four-player co-op for X-Men Legends II and up to four players for both Ultimate Alliance games. Check whether a listing means local or online play for the version you intend to use; Ultimate Alliance 2 explicitly lists both local and online co-op.
- Checking a legacy copy? Verify the exact platform, region, edition, and condition. The existence of an older release does not establish that a copy is currently in stock or playable on newer hardware.
Where Marvel’s Wolverine fits now
Marvel’s Wolverine is already available: Sony Interactive Entertainment announced its worldwide launch for September 15, 2026, exclusively on PlayStation 5. PlayStation describes an original story in which Wolverine returns to mutant task force Team X after leaving it three years earlier. That makes the games above companions or follow-ups, rather than substitutes for a sequel that has yet to arrive.
