Best Xbox Series X Emulator Settings for 45 FPS in God of War III Remastered (What Actually Works in 2026)

There is no supported Xbox Series X emulator-settings profile that delivers a stable 45 FPS in God of War III Remastered. The game is a PlayStation 4 release, while Xenia emulates Xbox 360 software on modern PCs and is not an Xbox Series X runtime. Xbox Series X backward compatibility is a curated console feature, not a user-installable emulator system. RPCS3 targets the older PlayStation 3 version, whose official status is Ingame, not Playable. If you want a practical 45 FPS option, the documented route is a community Windows/Vulkan port that can expose a 45 FPS cap, provided your hardware, game dump and software versions are compatible.

Why Xbox Series X cannot provide these settings

The game edition does not match Xenia

God of War III Remastered is the PlayStation 4 edition. Xenia describes itself as an open-source research project for emulating Xbox 360 games on modern PCs, so it does not load PS4 software and does not run as a general-purpose emulator installed on an Xbox Series X. Its official project description is available at xenia.jp.

That creates two separate mismatches: the console is not a supported Xenia host, and the Remastered release is not an Xbox 360 game. Changing resolution, shader, or frame-pacing options in Xenia cannot bridge either mismatch.

Xbox backward compatibility is not an emulator installation system

Microsoft’s backward-compatibility page says Series X|S supports “select Xbox 360, Original Xbox games, and Xbox One games.” It also notes that FPS Boost and resolution improvements vary by title. The word select matters: compatibility is implemented per game by the platform holder. You cannot add an arbitrary PlayStation 4 title, install Xenia or RPCS3 as a system-wide runtime, and then create a custom 45 FPS profile. See the current list and explanation at Xbox backward compatibility.

What Xenia’s FAQ says about Xbox One and Series dumping

Xenia’s official FAQ answers the question of dumping Xbox One or Series software with “No, and no.” The same FAQ says performance improvements come from upgrading the PC or waiting for emulator optimizations. That guidance concerns Xenia’s supported PC development environment; it does not establish an Xbox Series X installation path or compatibility with God of War III Remastered. Read the FAQ at github.com/xenia-project/xenia/wiki/faq.

Which platform paths are actually relevant?

Path Game edition Runtime and host 45 FPS evidence Ownership requirement
Xbox Series X backward compatibility Only individually supported Xbox 360, Original Xbox and Xbox One titles Built into the console; no user-installed emulator Not established for this PlayStation 4 release Valid license for a supported Xbox title
Xenia Xbox 360 software Xbox 360 emulator for modern PCs Not applicable to the PS4 Remastered edition or Xbox Series X Dump or legally obtained Xbox 360 software supported by the project
RPCS3 PlayStation 3 original PlayStation 3 emulator for PC Official God of War III status is Ingame, not Playable; no stable 45 FPS profile is established Your own PS3 game and required system files
gow3_pc PlayStation 4 God of War III Remastered Community Windows port; original x86-64 code runs directly on a PC CPU and graphics are translated to Vulkan through shadPS4 technology Launcher offers a 30-to-unlimited frame-rate limit, so 45 FPS can be selected; universal lock is not claimed Your own PS4 game dump

This comparison prevents a common mistake: choosing an emulator because its name sounds close to the target console rather than matching the exact game edition.

What RPCS3 can and cannot tell you

RPCS3 is relevant only if you mean the original PlayStation 3 release of God of War III, not the PS4 Remastered build. Its official compatibility entry lists the game as Ingame, updated March 14, 2025. That label means the title can get into gameplay in the tested configuration; it is not a promise of complete playability, consistent frame pacing, or a locked 45 FPS. The entry is available at rpcs3.net/compatibility?g=BCAS25003&o=4d&type=1.

Do not apply a PS3 emulator configuration to the PS4 Remastered executable. The editions use different code, graphics paths and compatibility work. A result from RPCS3 therefore cannot validate settings for the Remastered release, and it cannot be transferred to Xbox Series X.

The closest documented 45 FPS route: the Windows community port

How the port is different from an emulator

The current gow3_pc project states that the original x86-64 code runs directly on the PC CPU and that graphics are translated to Vulkan through shadPS4 technology. Its README explicitly says there is no emulator. This is a native-style community port for Windows, not an Xbox application and not a replacement for the official console version. Project documentation is at github.com/hmathsan/gow3_pc.

Because the launcher controls the game directly, it exposes a frame-rate limit from 30 FPS to unlimited. A 45 FPS selection is therefore possible on a compatible Windows installation. The documentation does not claim that every PC will hold 45 FPS in every scene, so treat the cap as an available setting rather than a guaranteed lock.

Requirements listed by the project

  • Windows 10 version 1903 or newer, 64-bit, or Windows 11 64-bit.
  • A graphics processor supporting Vulkan 1.3 with current drivers.
  • A dump of your own PS4 copy of God of War III Remastered; the project does not include game files.
  • A compatible dump identity. The README reports tests with CUSA01623 and CUSA01715, using versions 01.00 and 01.02.

These requirements describe the supported environment in the project documentation. They do not turn the port into an Xbox Series X application, and they do not grant permission to download someone else’s game dump.

Configure a 45 FPS cap

  1. Install the project on a supported 64-bit Windows system and install a current Vulkan 1.3-capable graphics driver.
  2. Supply your own PS4 dump and verify that its title ID and version correspond to one of the combinations the project has tested: CUSA01623 or CUSA01715, version 01.00 or 01.02.
  3. Open the project launcher and locate its frame-rate limit control.
  4. Set the limit to 45 FPS. The documented range is 30 FPS through unlimited; 45 is a selectable cap within that range.
  5. Choose a render resolution your GPU can sustain. The launcher includes render-resolution controls, so start conservatively if frametime varies and increase resolution only after 45 FPS remains steady.
  6. Apply the setting, launch the game and test several demanding scenes rather than judging stability from a menu or a quiet area.

A cap controls the maximum requested frame rate; it does not guarantee that the game will never dip below it. If a scene takes longer than the available 22.22 milliseconds per frame, the port must miss 45 FPS until the workload falls again. The project’s documentation does not publish a universal frametime guarantee, so stability has to be checked on the specific hardware and dump being used.

Optional high-frame-rate patches

The launcher documentation also mentions 120 FPS and 240 FPS engine patches. Those patches are alternatives to a 45 FPS cap, not requirements for it. Select the ordinary frame-rate limit when your goal is 45 FPS; use a high-frame-rate patch only when you deliberately want a different target and have verified that your hardware and game version support it.

What the published performance result means

The project README reports one test machine: a Ryzen 5 5600X processor, Radeon RX 6700 XT graphics card and 32 GB of RAM. At 1080p, that system averaged 144 FPS, with a reported range of 55 to 240 FPS. This is a single author’s project-machine result, not a benchmark guarantee for other processors, GPUs, drivers, resolutions or game scenes.

The result does show why a 45 FPS cap is technically plausible on a sufficiently fast Windows PC: the reported minimum was above 45 FPS in that test range. It does not prove that every supported system will maintain the cap, nor does it say that an Xbox Series X can run the port. Use the published hardware only as context when assessing your own headroom.

How to diagnose a failed 45 FPS target

The game does not start

  • Confirm that the host is 64-bit Windows 10 version 1903 or later, or Windows 11.
  • Update the graphics driver and verify Vulkan 1.3 support.
  • Check that the dump is from your own PS4 copy and that its ID and version are among the project’s tested combinations.
  • Do not substitute an Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 or unrelated PS4 dump; the executable and data must match the Remastered project.

The launcher has no 45 FPS option

Use the project version that documents the 30-to-unlimited frame-rate control and confirm that the launcher is reading the expected game installation. If the control is absent or behaves differently, the installed build may not match the README’s documented interface. The available documentation does not provide a separate Xbox configuration that can add the option.

Frame rate falls below 45

  1. Lower the launcher’s render resolution and retest the same demanding scene.
  2. Keep the 45 FPS cap enabled rather than switching to unlimited, so frame pacing has a defined target.
  3. Update Vulkan drivers and close other GPU-intensive applications.
  4. Compare the result with the project’s published test context, remembering that its 144 FPS average and 55–240 FPS range came from one Ryzen 5 5600X/RX 6700 XT/32 GB system at 1080p.
  5. If dips continue, the evidence available for this project does not identify a universal setting that will force a lock. A faster PC or later project optimization is the documented direction for performance improvement.

Confusing a 45 FPS cap with a display setting

A display running at 90 Hz or 120 Hz can make 45 FPS appear evenly paced when each frame is presented for an integral number of refresh intervals, but the port’s documented control is the in-game frame-rate limit. Set the limit in the launcher first; treat display refresh configuration as a separate system choice.

Legal ownership and preservation considerations

The gow3_pc project requires a dump from the user’s own PS4 and includes no game files. That requirement is part of the technical setup as well as an ownership boundary: downloading a pre-made dump does not satisfy the project’s stated requirement and may violate local copyright law. The same principle applies to any emulator software that requires console firmware, keys or game data. Check the law where you live and preserve your original discs or digital licenses.

Decision guide

  • You own an Xbox Series X and want the PS4 Remastered game: there is no supported emulator-settings route. Xbox backward compatibility cannot be used to add this title.
  • You are considering Xenia: stop at the platform check. Xenia targets Xbox 360 games on modern PCs, not PS4 software and not a Series X host.
  • You are considering RPCS3: understand that it is for the PS3 original and that the official status is Ingame, not Playable; no stable 45 FPS profile follows from that listing.
  • You have a Windows PC, a Vulkan 1.3 GPU and your own PS4 dump: the gow3_pc port is the documented practical alternative. Set its launcher limit to 45 FPS, choose a sustainable render resolution and test demanding gameplay scenes.

Final verdict

There are no Xbox Series X emulator settings to publish for a stable 45 FPS in God of War III Remastered, because the proposed runtime and game edition do not line up. Xenia is an Xbox 360 emulator for modern PCs, Xbox Series X backward compatibility is curated rather than user-extensible, and RPCS3’s PS3 compatibility status does not validate the PS4 Remastered release. A Windows PC running the documented gow3_pc project can expose a 45 FPS cap, but performance depends on the specific machine, Vulkan driver, dump version and scene complexity.
