Which sign should you choose for Ramza?
The answer depends on what you want from the Virgo-boss fights. Jedo’s Steam community guide, updated October 12, 2025, lists Capricorn and Taurus as Good matches for Virgo and Pisces as Virgo’s opposite. Under the guide’s reported compatibility system, Good is a steadier bonus; Best is stronger but also increases the effect of incoming attacks.

Why the Virgo matchup matters
The guide identifies Wiegraf, Gaffgarion, Argath, and Milleuda as Virgo-sign bosses. For those encounters, it recommends weighing the damage Ramza can deal against the damage he may receive. Pisces is the aggressive choice: the guide’s Best relationship increases the effect of actions in both directions. Capricorn and Taurus provide the guide’s Good relationship instead.

This does not establish that any of the three signs is strongest across the entire game. Other opponents have other signs, and the guide’s advice is centered on Virgo matchups. A sign that helps against one set of enemies may not be the best fit for every battle.
How Zodiac compatibility is described
According to the community guide, Zodiac compatibility can affect the outcome of most actions, including damage, healing, and percentage-based abilities. It lists four relationship multipliers:

The guide’s sign chart lists Virgo as Good with Taurus and Capricorn, Bad with Gemini and Sagittarius, and opposite Pisces. It lists Taurus and Capricorn as Good with each other; Pisces is Good with Cancer and Scorpio, and Bad with Gemini and Sagittarius. These are community-reported relationships rather than independently verified game data.
Gender and equal-sign compatibility
The guide includes a correction saying that male/female rules do not apply to opposite signs in this game; its earlier explanation of gender-dependent opposite-sign outcomes should not be treated as current guidance. A reader comment on the guide says equal signs show 100% in combat. Both points are community-sourced, not confirmed on Square Enix’s official pages.

Does Ramza’s sign determine his build?
No. Zodiac sign is one consideration, not a substitute for party composition, abilities, or the demands of a particular fight. Square Enix describes the game as offering over 20 jobs and hundreds of abilities, with learned abilities available after changing jobs. That flexibility means Ramza’s role can change as you progress; a sign choice should be considered in the context of the enemies you expect to face, rather than as a permanent verdict on his usefulness.
Square Enix presents both an enhanced version, with updated graphics, voiced dialogue, refined gameplay, and a Squire difficulty setting, and a classic version that recreates the 1997 game’s graphics and gameplay with the War of the Lions translation. The official pages establish those edition differences but do not document Zodiac multipliers, so the compatibility figures above should be understood as claims from the cited community guide.
