There was no single best weapon build for every Battlefield 6 Open Beta player: the right choice depended on range and role. For a flexible close-to-mid-range carbine, PC Gamer recommended this M4A1 setup; for close-quarters combat, Shacknews recommended an M87A1 shotgun build. Both are dated beta recommendations, not claims about the current game. EA said after the beta that it was changing weapon recoil and tap-fire behavior and increasing the M87A1 pellets needed for a kill.
What these Battlefield 6 beta builds are—and aren’t
Battlefield 6 Early Access ran August 7–8, 2025, followed by open beta weekends on August 9–10 and August 14–17. The beta is over. On August 21, EA published its Open Beta Debrief and said it was making post-beta weapon changes, so these builds should be read as snapshots of recommendations for the August 2025 test—not as verified launch or later-patch meta.
EA described its broader weapon adjustment this way: “We’ve also made changes to encourage more controlled tap-firing and burst-firing, rewarding precision and weapon mastery.” The statement came from EA’s Battlefield Team, not a named individual. Read EA’s Open Beta Debrief.

PC Gamer’s flexible close-to-mid-range build
In a guide dated August 15, 2025, PC Gamer writer Rory Norris called the M4A1 his preferred beta gun and recommended a setup intended to balance recoil control with aggressive close-to-medium-range handling. The attachment list is the guide author’s recommendation, not an independently reproduced test.

| Muzzle | Compensated Brake |
| Barrel | 14.5-inch Carbine |
| Underbarrel | Ribbed Vertical |
| Magazine | 36RND Magazine |
| Ammunition | Soft Point |
| Ergonomics | Improved Mag Catch |
| Optic | RO-M 1.50x |
Norris’s guide says the brake and vertical grip help manage recoil and deviation, while Soft Point ammunition and the 36-round magazine support an aggressive approach. It reports beta-snapshot M4A1 figures of 25 damage per shot and 900 rounds per minute; these are not verified stats for the current game. The guide also offers a Standard Suppressor as a stealth alternative or the 6H64 Vertical for additional recoil control, presented as author-suggested variants rather than guaranteed improvements. See PC Gamer’s M4A1 beta guide.
Best M87A1 loadout in the Battlefield 6 beta
Shacknews’ close-quarters shotgun build
Shacknews’ John Schutt published this M87A1 recommendation on August 16, 2025, during the beta’s second open weekend. The build uses standard Buckshot and a 7-shell tube, with a CQB Suppressor and 6H64 Vertical underbarrel.
| Slot | Attachment |
|---|---|
| Top accessory | 5 MW Red |
| Optic | OSA-7 1.00x |
| Ammunition | Buckshot |
| Magazine | 7 Shell Tube |
| Underbarrel | 6H64 Vertical |
| Barrel | 20-inch Factory |
| Muzzle | CQB Suppressor |
Schutt emphasizes aiming down sights, which he says tightens pellet spread, and advises staying within the shotgun’s effective range. His report of getting kills at 30–40 meters is an anecdote from that guide, not a measured range guarantee. He judged Flechette less consistent than Buckshot, while noting that results can vary by player. Read Shacknews’ M87A1 beta guide.

Why the M87A1 needs a stronger date caveat
EA’s August 21 debrief said the M87A1 would require more pellets to secure a kill. That specific post-beta change means its beta-era effectiveness should not be assumed for the launch version or later patches. The guide’s build remains useful as a record of how one publication recommended setting up the shotgun during the beta, not as proof that it performs the same way now.

Other beta-era picks: SGX and M433
Dot Esports’ August 15, 2025 tier list placed the M87A1, SGX, and M433 in S tier. It characterized the SGX as a high-rate-of-fire, low-recoil SMG for tight spaces and aggressive pushes, and the M433 as a versatile default assault rifle. These are that publication’s beta snapshot rankings, not a controlled or universal ranking.
Its stated comparison factors included fire rate, recoil control, time-to-kill, effective range, mobility, and map layout. Those factors are a more useful way to choose between roles than treating any tier list as a promise of the best weapon for every player. See Dot Esports’ beta weapon tier list.

How to judge an attachment combination
EA’s loadout help explains that weapons can use up to 100 attachment points and identifies categories including barrels, underbarrels, muzzles, magazines, ammunition, ergonomics, and optics. Attachments can affect ADS speed, recoil control, sound, magazine capacity, damage or penetration, reload speed, zoom, and scope glint. A combination that improves one quality may require a trade-off elsewhere, so do not stack attachments based only on one favorable stat. Read EA’s loadout and attachment overview.
- Start with distance and map lanes: a shotgun recommendation is for close engagements; a flexible carbine or assault rifle covers a broader range of situations.
- Check control against your firing style: recoil-focused attachments may help keep bursts on target, while EA’s post-beta note specifically points to more controlled tap- and burst-firing.
- Consider handling as well as firepower: ADS speed, mobility, and hipfire behavior matter when pushing or reacting at close range.
- Account for capacity and reloads: a larger magazine can support sustained engagements, but the build still needs to suit how often you reload and how you take fights.
- Separate beta strengths from later versions: EA’s announced post-beta adjustments are a reason to verify current weapon behavior rather than carry a beta recipe forward unchanged.
What EA reported about the beta
EA’s August 21, 2025 Open Beta Debrief infographic reported 420 million matches, 92 million hours played, and 4.9 billion enemies killed. Those are figures published by Electronic Arts for the beta, not independently audited totals. They describe the scale of the event, not evidence that a particular weapon build was objectively best.
