Bethesda announced and released The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on April 22, 2025. Its later Nintendo Switch 2 release was announced for August 11, 2026, a date that has also passed. The old “announcing tomorrow” headline is no longer a current news claim.
When did Oblivion Remastered come out?
Bethesda’s April 22, 2025 announcement said the remaster was available that day for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, as well as through Game Pass at launch. Xbox Wire also listed cloud availability and PC access through Steam and the Xbox App for Windows PC. What happened with the Nintendo Switch 2 version?
Bethesda first said on February 5, 2026, that Oblivion Remastered was planned for Switch 2 that year, with a digital release first and a physical code-in-box edition planned for later. What is included in the Switch 2 physical edition?
Bethesda describes a Switch 2 Deluxe Edition physical release with a cartridge containing the full base game, the Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine expansions, and additional content. Is it a remake or a remaster?
Bethesda calls the project a remaster and described its aim as retaining the original game while presenting it through modern technology. In the studio’s April 22, 2025 launch statement, Bethesda Game Studios said: “We never wanted to remake it – but remaster it – where the original game was there as you remember playing it, but seen through today’s technology.” The statement says work began in 2021 with Virtuos and describes updates to art, animation, effects, parts of the world, and game systems. Bethesda’s original-platform product page says the standard edition includes the base game, Shivering Isles, Knights of the Nine, and additional downloadable content. The digital Deluxe Edition adds quests, armor and weapon sets, a digital artbook, and a soundtrack app. The Switch 2 announcement lists its own standard and Deluxe digital editions and a Deluxe physical edition; do not assume that every platform’s Deluxe bundle has identical contents.
