When was the Oblivion remaster reveal?
The teaser appeared on April 21, 2025. Bethesda’s social accounts posted an image showing the Roman numeral “IV” and an armored mask, with the words “Tomorrow, 11:00 am EST,” and promoted a livestream titled “All will be revealed….” Game Informer’s report at the time said the teaser suggested an Oblivion announcement, while its platform and release date were still unknown. The promised reveal followed at 11 a.m. Eastern on April 22, 2025: Bethesda announced The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and made it available that day. Bethesda’s launch announcement and Xbox Wire’s April 22, 2025 report confirm the release.
Is Oblivion Remastered out, and what platforms is it on?
Yes. Its April 22, 2025 launch covered Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Xbox Wire specified PC distribution through Steam and the Xbox App for Windows PC, and said the game was available on day one through Game Pass and supported Xbox Play Anywhere.

Nintendo Switch 2 joined the platform list on August 11, 2026. Bethesda announced that launch on June 30, 2026, alongside details of a physical Deluxe Edition. Is Oblivion Remastered a remake or a remaster?
Bethesda describes it as a remaster made with Virtuos. The original Creation Engine game remains underneath, while Unreal Engine 5 powers the visual treatment. In practical terms, the project updates the presentation and changes parts of the play experience without replacing the underlying game with a wholly new one. These are Bethesda’s descriptions, not independent performance testing.

Visual and presentation updates
Bethesda says environments and character models were remade, lip sync was improved, and lighting and atmospheric effects were updated. The third-person view was also updated. Bethesda’s extended look explains the studio’s approach.
Gameplay and interface changes
The publisher lists sprinting, reworked movement, rebuilt combat animations, redesigned menus and map, progression and encumbrance changes, improved enemy scaling, accessibility updates, and additional autosaves. The additions change how the game feels to navigate and play, while preserving its underlying identity.
